    This video is important because we're all trying to save our garden produce. I'm looking forward to the outcome.😊

    I hope these work for you. We have gophers where I live bad. Majority of the neighbors just don’t plant our gardens in the ground, raised beds or pots. With raised beds we put metal underneath first.

    Have you tried putting up owl boxes or hawk perches?

      HEY, you read my mind. That's why I was calling DNR I wanted to know if it was smart to put a Barn Owl box up. They are expensive and I wanted to know if they were in our area. I getting a Screech owl box. Do you have one?

    Help! I have a watermelon with blossom end rot. I’ve researched but I would like advice from an expert please. What should I do? This is my yellow meat watermelon 😭😢

    • @GrowSomethingTasty
      @GrowSomethingTasty  2 місяці тому +1

      HEY Carleshia!!!! I am sorry to hear that. Let me know what that expert says, LOL. I don't think I'm an expert but thank you. Blossom end rot is a lack of calcium or it's due to irregular watering. Irregular watering ties up nitrogen. If you need nitrogen use bone meal but it takes a while to break down. Hopefully, it's your watering schedule. If you can't figure it out you can do a soil sample using your local extension. I did it and I found I had tons of calcium so it was my watering. Those metal spikes are working for that plant in the video, I hope it continues.

      @@GrowSomethingTasty thanks Bear! We’ve been having lots of rain here and lots of dry spells. I was trying not to over water them. I did put down bone meal. I’m going to remove the one with end rot and hope the others survive. Thanks for responding!!!

    hey you are definitely helping me, this is my first year growing watermelons, i am growing in grow bags and they have been growing a bit slow but i have 4 melons growing so far. one of which is growing super slow. i really dont know why. any suggestions?

    • @GrowSomethingTasty
      @GrowSomethingTasty  2 місяці тому +1

      HEY @InuqiSevonne!!! I'm glad to hear the videos are helping. If one is growing slowly, I'm thinking about the nutrients. Maybe the plant needs more nutrients. Are you fertilizing with compost tea and adding more compost for more nutrients. I hope it starts growing for you. Let me know how it goes.

    • @InuqiSevonne
      @InuqiSevonne 2 місяці тому +1

      @@GrowSomethingTasty i have been only fertilizing with fish emulsion. but i do that once every two weeks. maybe i need to fertilize a bit more often then. or maybe switch up my fertilizer with my compost tea of mixed bananas and comfrey leaves. but i will keep you posted for sure Cuzzo thanks!

    Bear brilliant. i'm sorry about the trouble. Is this in addtion to another probem you mentioned to me last? You're amazing. this sacrificial experience that you're still enduring shows your truthful gracious spirt for all. You are saving us all by your sacrifice whether unintentional or not. you're providing God's service to help show us. Thanks Bear I looked up,
    Moles dig tunnels that can vary in depth from just below the surface to over 70 centimeters (2feet 4 inches), while voles dig small tunnels that are usually 4 to 5 inches deep for nesting: They may also nest in shallow grass-filled nests on the ground. Woodland voles, also known as pine voles, dig tunnels 3 to 4 inches below the surface.
    Moles
    Moles dig a complex system of tunnels that include surface tunnels, deeper runways, feeding tunnels, and nesting areas. Surface tunnels connect to deeper runways that are 3 to 12 inches below the surface, but can be as deep as 40 inches. These deeper runways are the main passageways that moles use to travel to and from their nest and surface tunnels. Moles also dig shelter tunnels that are 6 to 24 inches deep, where they take shelter during bad weather and give birth to their young. When digging close to the surface, moles push the soil up to form molehills. Moles are fast diggers that can tunnel up to 18 feet per hour and add up to 150 feet of new tunnels each day.

    Now I feel lucky my hills are on top of the rockiest ground I have ever seen. I have everything needed to grow melons, plenty of fertilizer from our livestock, poultry, and ponds, all composted as necessary, the only thing I'm lacking is the knowledge and experience. People around my area always talk about yellow meated watermelons, that's what I'm growing, but do people really like them?

    • @GrowSomethingTasty
      @GrowSomethingTasty  2 місяці тому +1

      No, they don't like them, they LOVE them. Most people don't see them for one. How many stores sell them? Not one in my city. I never saw them in stores in other cities around me. So when you see people on the side of the road with them, people turn around to buy them. Before I started growing food, I saw a guy selling it I paid 10 dollars for one. It's like that for sugarcane too.

    • @ZomBearfoot
      @ZomBearfoot 2 місяці тому

      @@GrowSomethingTasty my great grandfather grew watermelons and sugarcane back in the 40s and 50s, the farmers in the area would haul it to a neighbors house and use his mule driven press to squeeze out the juice and boil it in a huge copper tub to make molasses for everyone.

    I gotta off question (I toss them melons back too now...As they talk about Tree Root systems as a communication network for miles just like our phone systems. These melon hooks be wrapping but I noticed they don't just wrapping anything anywhere though it looks like it. They say vines choke which is true which maybe true-ish. I'm askin if you think these wrapping ALSO as a physical anchor are anchoring into tha underground plant super network tha same way people used to steal cable). This Wrapping as Anchor but also as Health Benefit maybe plant mental health..overall just another aspect of stronger or better plant? And if it ever crossed your mind to notice?

    • @GrowSomethingTasty

      @@GrowSomethingTasty I understand. but the spikes were genius. Hope to see a video of you harvesting that melon along with more. I’ve found with gardening not every season is a great one, ( farmers talking about the weather Lol) I get it, it’s a real thing. My peppers are struggling but finally coming around. I think I found the only vole in south Indiana atleast never encountered one until this year and you battling an entire flock/ family but to think of it I’m surrounded by crop fields and several other gardens in my area. You may have the tastiest of plants planted in your local area, just a thought. Hopefully they go on through and don’t stick around. I’m thinking of you and praying they get the heck out.
