The great poet that he was, Mirza Ghalib was also a great visionary, who is considered to be the first among Urdu moderns. His exceptionally sharp intellect led him to have an intuition of the material and intellectual changes that were lurking on the horizon under the impact of new knowledge and technology coming from the West, as early as the third decade of the 19th century. His vision must have been instrumental in leading his disciple, poet and critic Altaf Husain Hali and others including Mohd. Husain Azad towards a thorough review of the state of Urdu poetry and literary culture, and introduce new ideas and structures of thought, thereby setting in motion a process of literary and intellectual reconstruction that turned out to be a movement we now call the Urdu renaissance.
The panelists in the track would enlighten the audience on the intellectual influence of Mirza Ghalib and the contributions made by Hali and other Urdu modernists in reshaping the literary and intellectual narrative.
Jashn-e-Rekhta is a unique festival, held annually in Delhi, which celebrates the spirit of Urdu language, literature and culture. Spread over three days, the festival hosts distinguished poets, authors, scholars and artists from the subcontinent and beyond.

Taqi Abedi saab, i have been a fan of yours and have read very little of rumooz-e-shayari and i would definitely like to be your student and get islaah- fine tuning of my poetry whatever little i have been able to do. But the passion with which you spoke and how you dissected the underlying truth of those two great poets is just awesome. Hope and pray that i would get a chance to meet you in person and learn from you, because we both live in the western world and neighbors but our love of urdu language and poetry which is the common thread running within us will definitely provide me an opportunity to meet you and spend some valuable time with you which i could use to enhance my understanding of the Urdu poetry, its syntax and nuances.
