Is it possible to record a guitar with effects the way you show and bounce that track to another track and then connect a synth with an fx box the same way and edit after playback and keep using that channel to record more tracks to add to the song? Hope this makes sense.
I like the idea of inserts. My mixer has an FX send, but no return. I assume I am supposed to connect an external effects rack unit, but I don't have any lol. Oh well, maybe someday my gas will get the better of me haha.
@@MikeFoerster Ah ok. I will have to try that. I’ve experimented a little with using an open channel to plug pedals into, but have had some noise and feedback issues.
@@MikeFoerster I was watching a video and someone mention if you want it on all channels to use the AUX... My inquiry is Im trying to use the inserts on the tascam via a patchbay.. so i can easily send signals from different components without unpluggin from the back. How would I set up the tip and ring on the back of the patch bay
Also are you using control room for your output? I have mine set up but it’s running through channel 1 and 2 initially. Is that because I’m using the device as an interface?
What if you have more than 5 instruments and want to hook those up to hear output? How do I do that without using the 2 instruments inputs? I was told by tascam the 16 had up to 10 inputs to run instruments through but the manual doesn’t give any in detail understanding how to get these things to function.
The insert is connected directly into that track, so it can be used afterwards as well. So if you don't use a compressor when recording, you can use it afterwards, which is how I would do it because I generally record alone. I honestly wish they would've simply done this across all the tracks.
I was feeling stupid but I was wondering the same thing. So it means that when you playback your track you can adjust your insert settings as you wish?
If you use the effects send on the board and return it back into one of the channels you can send the effect to all the channels. I've done a video on using the effect send on the Model 16 / 24.
Just to be clear, this only applies to the channel that it's plugged into, right? For example, I have my mpc one going into the model 12 via usb but it's on tracks 1 and two. So I'm trying to use an elektron heat via the sends and that would apply to the send channels only, right?
Sorry you feel that way. Others seem to have found it useful. If you can elaborate on your statements, I would love to hear it. Thanks again for your input.
I needed this. It's remarkable the kinds of basic information missing from the manual.
great info Mr.!!

I think so, I'd have to play with it and see if I can do it. Let me get back to you.
@@MikeFoerster thanks! Look forward to hearing back!

Generally if you have a send the return is the board inputs. That's how it's done on the DP32

I hear ya, inserts on all channels would have been great. Mine remain unused as they are on the only two instrument channels. Great vid!
Yeah, I don't get why they didnt put them on all channels. I doubt it would've been that much extra work

I'll make a video for that. It's a great idea.

I'm not sure what I did for this one, but I have used the USB for many of these videos.
great info !
Where can I find those plugs that you used to hook up the insert? Do you no where I can buy a set
I'll see if I can track some down
@@MikeFoerster Thanks I just got the 16 and want to insert my compressor

You can use all the inputs for instruments. I don't generally record instruments on these two channels. I use them for vocals.
@@MikeFoerster how do I hear them once I connect them? I’m running it as usb interface right now.
You'll have to connect the channels to your DAW to hear them. If you switch the mode to "LIVE" you should be able to hear them too.
@@MikeFoerster if it’s on live would I hear it as soon as it’s plugged in?
Yes, it'll go through main. I'll make a video about it this week for Monday.
Those inserts will only function in live mode (while recording) and are disabled during playback
Yes. Only in live mode
Thank you! When would someone use the insert vs running the signal straight through the external compressor then the mixer for example?

how do you get one effect to effect all channels?

Yes, inserts only work on the channel that they are plugged into.
@@MikeFoerster word
i would have bought this mixer so fast if it had 8 inserts.
Only the Model 12 has inserts on all channels.
Very unorganised and unclear run around for something simple

Can you use the insert to apply effects (say a real tape delay) to vocals when printing a mix?
Yes, you should be able to do that.
