@@jaimiemorue2133 Part of it is people can't afford it, or they don't know where to look or they don't realize the value of having a few high quality pieces vs. the cheaper stuff. I live in DR Congo, and one of the best things about living here is fabric is relatively cheap, and so are tailors, so even as a paid volunteer (I have living expenses paid for plus a small monthly stipend), I can afford to get custom made clothing made that costs a fraction of what I'd pay in Canada. I love it.
Terri Myrick most of the time they go to antique malls who are aware of the costs of certain items. Sometimes people reach out to her too. The thrill of it all is finding that one bargain you bought for merely nothing compared to its actual value... I found a 1940s stage light worth $1000 in the goodwill trash. Its exhilarating.
Are you talking about the retro faux-bangs? If yes, there you have it, retro faux-bangs 😉 There are UA-cam tutorials to do it on your own. I used to wear it all the time.
I like vintage because you get unique pieces no one else has and you can mix them with modern things for a custom personalized look. Also I found clothes originally from the 50s often fit perfect I think people were more petite then. Sizes have changed so much what used to be a size 12 is now called a size 8 for customers vanity and they don't make enough small sizes anymore imo.
That's part of the demand I think since current fashion dictates what is available if your size or favourite colours are not popular for the season you have to look elsewhere to get the styles you want.
I love collecting clothing I'm running out of space to store it but I have to agree modern clothing can be badly sewn , cut , and made from cheap fabric, not all but A lot, although you can train yourself to recognise good quality clothing I always feel like shopping after watching these videos
Sigh,,,, id love to work there. Just even to get to SEE, let alone touch such beautifully made and crafted clothing and things. Im so happy they made this channel. Love on and have fun in the hunt...
I hate how vintage clothing is popular right now. A ton of hipsters keep opening up shops and selling a bunch of clothes I saw at the salvation army for like $60. I NEED CLOTHES GOD DAMN IT!!!
If I lived in LA I would totally work at that store. I LOVE vintage, and can pinpoint the era of clothing without being told. My best friend and I have competitions sometimes to see who gets more right lol. If I had the body for it, I'd wear nothing but 20's and 50's inspired clothes.
I wish I could wear more vintage but I'm a size 12 and it's hard to find my size. All the pieces are normally smaller sizes ughhh all you skinny girls out there take advantage!
I wish I could wear vintage clothes. I'm too curvy for most of the outfits. The only thing that bugs me is who obvious the owner's kissing up to the clients. (All business people do it to a certain extent, but she's really obvious.)
Women were not curvy compared to today's standards. I wear a size eight and it can be very difficult to find clothes my size. I never said it wasn't out there. Also, people's definition of curvy was very different compared to today's definition of curvy. Not to mention that every few years, the sizing scale changes.
DarkwingsDesending If anything, their definition of curvy was more like today's "chubby", so that's a pretty lame excuse. Being fat unfortunately makes it a lot harder to find clothes, so either you deal with it or you decide to get healthy.
Oh please. Calling someone fat? Really? How mature. I'm 130 pounds and if that's fat, then you need to check yourself. I'll check it for you. It's not. Also, I find it sad that you bother to call others fat when you don't even have a picture of yourself up. Also, considering I'm close to graduating with a B.A. in history, I can tell you that is only parially true. People were more slight back then and that's a fact. You have no right to tell a person to "deal with it or decide to get healthy" when you don't have a picture for anyone else to judge and you likely don't have a medical degree.
I want to come work for you.....for free, well room and board lol. I adore vintage, I was born 1958, so I'm 60, but I adore the styles between 1920's and 1950's those years they really had beautiful items.
Ah yes! It must have been a great time when dressing vintage was inexpensive.👏🏻 I miss when you could take $15-$20 into a second hand store & get an outfit.🥲
Smithsonian, these shorts seem more geared toward advertising and PR for those who appear herein than they do toward education. While I adore capitalism, the Smithsonian's were established for educational purposes.
I love Doris. She's so knowledgable and inspiring. Her passion for vintage clothing is so obvious.
Wow I am enchanted with this lady. First time seeing this. August 2018
Where is she based?

Couldn't agree more.
Josie Ho's father is worth 7 billion, six thousand really isn't a lot to her.
Loose change
You'd think she could afford to have her hair not look like a sloppy wig then
@@natalie8212 ...that WASN'T a wig?
@@thekingsdaughter4233 I don't think so lol
Must be nice to not worry about price tags....and That totally looked like a wig
I'm in love with the simple blue dress Josie was wearing. Classic!
The quality of past clothing is Unbeatable!
I have a big complaint. Your videos are to short. I love them so much.

They just don't make clothes as beautiful anymore. It's all the same, cheaply made stuff
There are beautiful stuff, not in HM that's all. And we are not willing to put that much money into clothes as they did before I believe.
As a couture-trained seamstress, I wholeheartedly agree!!

I'm sure as often as they can get away with it

Don’t ever knock a dead grannies closet. Treasures my dear, treasures.

She says...vintage was an inexpensive way for her to dress....but in her store none of the dress cost less than 1000 dollars
Never a good idea to take comments out of context. She said that in regard to her SFO beginnings in the 70s.

Josie Ho~
But nowadays vintage is no longer cheap and accessible... 😭
If you find used or secondhand pieces you can find some for cheap
do you just spend $15,000 on clothes every two days or do you give to charities who have no clothes at all?!? That shit is so infuriating
Agreed. Dx
