I really enjoy your channel. I am not a re-seller; I buy for myself. I mostly look for art, vintage and art pottery, hand turned wooden bowls, and books. Sometimes I pick up vintage furniture. I have found a few really exciting treasures, such as "Death of a Salesman" signed by Arthur Miller.
Hand turned wooden bowls are great. Especially ones that are signed or initialed. They are usually very underpriced, too. I would love to get more furniture but I have no room left haha. Thanks for watching!

I'm an artist, a trained printmaker. In 1999, I was broke and out of town just shopping with a friend at a thrift store. I found a small etching, maybe 6" x 9", framed, of a man on a horse. I could see the raised ink marks from the press. It was scribbly, but it was signed "Dali" I didn't have $15 to buy it, but told myself to go back later. Well, when I finally made my way back, I found that the shop had burned down some weeks earlier.
I only deal with art and everything you stated is bang on. From the learning curve to the storage issues with about 400 art pieces in my house, but it's all worth it. Great video as always.
I look for artwork, pottery, sculpture, photographs, baskets, hats, lamps, art glass and wooden objects; anything original, artisan made or of some well known or reputable make. I'm always looking for unusual things too but generally if something is in good shape, has nice esthetic and is priced low enough then it's usually worth my consideration in many cases. I agree what you said about the 'learning curve' and being able to know a good vs. bad piece. I'm still sitting on my 'beginner' finds that I regret buying early on. You have to make some mistakes but your senses will eventually catch up if you work at it and pay attention. I will spend hours pouring over online market platforms looking at all sorts of artwork. I'll even go out of my way to consider what I think is 'bad' art. I also buy all kinds of art books. I'll buy scholarly works on anything from collecting, pricing or auction, essays, biographies, how to, historical, art movements and styles etc. And then I'll buy the coffee table type books on an artist as well. These titles are as much about enjoying art as they are about reference for me. And the secondhand books are often really cheap but between looking online and at art books eventually you gain a keener sense overall. You'll also find that your own preference will change or rather it will mature the more you absorb and learn.

Totally agree with you Joe…especially the thrill of the hunt, as you say.. gets the adrenaline pumping….Collecting art is my first love, but also MCM glass too…and the things that I ‘just know’, somehow are really something quite unique or collectable..( experience + knowledge,I suppose)…All of your other pros and cons are certainly fair and true… but learning curve is the real treasure !!…and you never stop learning…As usual… another interesting video 👍👍….Recently, found something which I hardly ever buy… An intriguing pair of large brass candlesticks…which turned out to be quite valuable art nouveau period!!!.. and worth a lot more than the £7.00 (Uk price) I paid…wish I could send a pic of them….Cheers and thanks Joe, (Sue UK)

Definitely Art works and pottery pieces. What tips do you have for researching art pieces? I use google lens but sometimes no results. Is there a auction site you use to help identify. Thanks
Hi! Yes, Google Lens can be hit or miss. If you know who the artist is, try searching past auction results on liveauctioneers.com. Invaluable also has estimates, but not all of the results are available unless you have a subscription. Ebay can be ok for limited edition prints. Not so much for paintings, though. Hope this helps!
Finding what a piece of art is worth can be difficult. What I do is check past auction results as well as current listings by the artist. You can use Live Auctioneers and search the artist. As for original, print, etc. check out my videos. I made one on this subject a few months back :)

Oh no! That would have been an awesome find. I have yet to find a Dali out thrifting. He's one of my favorite artists
