- You don't get much more iconic than the 2 Fast 2 Furious R34 Skyline! Today's visitor to The Shmuseum is Robbie @ghostskyline with his GT-Turbo tribute to the legendary movie car of Paul Walker's character Brian O'Conner in Fast and Furious. Let's check it out and head for a drive!
Having crossed paths at Petrolheadonism Underground recently, Rob brought his R34 tribute to the legend, and what better than to now catch up in full and share more of this car with you; what it's all about and have an experience myself at the wheel. The GT-T is a more approachable price point than the GT-R, but with the upgrades in Rob's car we're talking around 400hp and a host of mods to up the ride experience.
After taking a look at my garage including a run through of Rob's recent experience meeting Craig Lieberman - the man responsible for the cars in the Fast and Furious movie franchise - we're taking the Skyline out for a run to see what it's all about and what makes it tick for Rob.

Was Craig's neighbor.. I was 6 or 7 years old and he let me and friends in our street check out his blue diablo. Trophies lined the walls of his garage man I teared up remembering. Diablo's light beige leather interior had a lemon scent.. showed us the speakers but he said they blew up because they played so loud lol!! (probably just saving our neighbors from a sound test I bet) Was many many years later, many years after even seeing the movies several times, that I realized who that was, and thought about how I've been interested in cars since.. thanks C.L.

I went with my 7 y/o daughter( she loves Fast and furious a lot btw)to Petrolheadonism Underground and took a photo of her with the car and we were over the moon to see it in real life. She said daddy that's your dream car!
Really cool. I kinda saw the birth of JDM in the early 90s at college in Tennessee. My roommate was from Osaka, Japan. He had a slammed Honda Prelude. Had big stickers and lights, after market rims etc.. a few other Japanese students had MR2 turbo, 300 ZX twin turbo and Mitsubishi Eclipse. ( back then the Yen 💴 was stong );I was like what’s up with the wide body kits, lights, stickers etc.. said this is our version of a hot rod in Japan. A few years later the movie came out. 👍🏼

When you say that the only Japanese car you owned, was the Supra, you're forgetting your GR Yaris.

Nope. The GR Yaris wasn't originally designed for the Japanese domestic market, its a WRC homologation car that shares little in common with the regular Yaris (the front frame was based on the Yaris, other than that pretty much just the badges) and was released for the international market.
The Jimny was the only JDM car.

That's why I bought my 2002 R34 GTR V spec II with onky 52k kms around 5 years ago. .. now worth alot of money...
Great looking car! To be honest, it's best to do these tributes with GT-Ts, to not "ruin" the last GT-Rs we have left.
That's my opinion too.
Still plenty of R34 GTRs on the road. You can still order replacement parts from Nissan while NISMO and Mine's still have brand new parts in stock including replacement panels, bumpers, wheels and even the engine block.

Very nice. I had a ride in an R34 GTR with the GTR Chief Engineer through Tokyo when I worked in Japan for Nissan a few years ago. R34 is my favourite model as a result.
When I saw the Insta reel of the glass clearing, it's the only time I've literally gasped and grinned in anticipation of the video!

Love Rob’s passion. We all have a passion for different things. It could be Vauxhall Nova’s or it could be hypercars, it doesn’t matter. Great that he’s not bastardised it chasing unusable power too!

I remember buying an R32 GTR for a few thousand pounds. I wished I’d known how much they’d fetch years later.
It's not about how much they're worth it's about appreciating the car for what they are, if you could have afforded to own and kept it that's your loss. Couldn't letting imagine letting such an iconic piece of history go.

It would be safe to say to put a zero behind your purchase price and buyers come flocking to your door with cash

The Japanese voice says カード入れて下さい (ka-do irete kudasai), which is "Please insert a card", referring to the ETC card that you put into the reader underneath the dashboard for the electronic toll collection booths on the Japanese highways.

I believe that the car has an ETC card reader, as it says, “Please insert the card.” In Japanese. It’s normally located in the glove box or on the left side under the steering wheel.

Yoi could try and meet up with Sung Kang on your next USA trip Tim you could get his Moniker for the Skyline. the Skyline is fitted with HICAS, Nissan's rear wheel steering system, many Skyline owners have it removed.
0:40 If you think about it, wasn't your GR Yaris more "JDM" than the Supra?
Just to provide some info for people, there is quite a difference between the rb25 neo which is in this car to the rb26.. head is different, larger pistons, different conrods and the r26 has ITB as well as a different bore thickness in block. Also the neo is a 2.5 litre and rb26 is a 2.6litre with solid lifters, strong valves and cams weigh less than neo. There is a lot different could carry out. Between that car and the gtr the difference is night and day. It’s a great car Robbie has, nice bloke and I hope he does the engine work it deserves.

You're correct buddy. It's paint on mine not a wrap though. I have thought about 'fading' it. I haven't got the water spray onto the intercooler. Purge kit next.
