My opinion of you went up 1000% when you left that black snake alone. Now you can sleep at night knowing you'll never be overtaken by frogs or mice. They are very curious, if you hammer on something for a while, expect this big boy to crawl into your area to check it out. As you know, they are harmless and where you have a large black snake living, you will not have water moccasins. Thank you for being so smart.

@@coastaku1954 curious doesn't mean friendly. It's still a wild animal. But it's not particularly territorial or aggressive, as evidenced by him filming it up close and it just kind of going on about its business, and they're non-venemous, so he doesn't have to worry about it killing him, unlike the brown recluse spiders might have done.
Certainly not for petting, but just leave it to its own business and you can have a mutually beneficial relationship - it gets shelter and food, and you get free mouse and frog extermination.

Judging by the pinnacle of European technology - the Trabant - in your possession, you are a man of culture, appreciating high-end materials and advanced production technologies, and of course since a two-stroke is only one stroke away from a turbine, futuristic engine technology. Therefore I urge you to build your house to Fancy European Standards (TM), which include but are not limited to: Concrete, brick, heavy wooden beams, roof shingles, cellar, 230 V powerlines, and a sign that says "Socialism had its good sides, too".

But for those from Yugoslavia, that is not true, as the period that followed Socialism [well... it was Market-Socialism, but anyways] was a period of civil wars and uncontrolled capitalism in which a handful of people got rich by selling off the entire industry that was left from the time of Socialism. Not to mention the degradation of the education and healthcare systems, and all the debt those same people plunged the countries in. And then there is the rise of ultranationalist semi-fascist parties.

I was helping get an old Ford Econoline running once, the doghouse had been removed so the van had a racoon living in it. My buddy wanted the 460 out of the van, so somehow I got to be the one to chase off the racoon, and wasps, and be greeted by a giant black snake crawling over the seat and across my shoulder as I sat messing with the engine. He or she was very curious about the racket in its den. Once the snake realized the van was no longer a quiet place to live, it migrated to a nearby Pinto, which I was fine with. I may or may not have made a very unmanly noise when said snake began coming over my shoulder and brushed against my neck...

Are you kidding? Look at 11:05, the pit is deep enough to come up to nearly his chest. That's what, nearly 5' deep? Sure, you wouldn't be able to stand under a vehicle level with the concrete deck, but it'd give you a hell of a lot more room if using a creeper or just sitting under the vehicle. Way better than trying to squeeze under a tiny car sitting on the pavement. Heck, you could even make a small ramp on the deck before the pit and have the vehicle even higher up over the pit and have like metal walkways to the sides of the vehicle if you need the additional space underneath, the ceilings are high enough.
That'd be a dream setup for me, I hate having to crawl under my truck to do oil changes on hot/cold concrete and get intimate with whatever ants/bugs/spiders are crawling around on my driveway.

I continue to be jealous of your shop(s). I lived on a farm for 11 years, and had an 1800 sqft insulated and plumbed shop with high ceilings You could park two fully-loaded hay wagons in there. Which I did, more than once. It was heated with a custom wood stove that was quite efficient--and it could burn 4ft-long logs without having to cut them. Then the (now EX) wife said "I don't want to live here anymore". So, we didn't :( :( :( I, like you, had a "day job" in high tech, but the farm, and puttering in the shop gave me some much-needed peace and relaxation. Sigh.

I wish I knew this pioneer mobile split was available (on the DIY side) before I purchased a $3,000 self contained unit.

I recently learned about your channel and I love it! Been going back and checking everything out. Also, it was really cool of young George Lucas to help you installate those AC units! ;-D

Make sure to look up the laws where you live, in some states, collecting rain water for use other than watering plants is illegal

I get a butt pucker every time I see a snake...but I have never seen a snake I haven't had to pick up. I am very low key and it is great to be scared or un nerved by something like a big long black snake..

Partition your shop with tarps hanging from the rafters to cool only the areas you want.

FYI, a difference of 50F is a difference of 27C, not 10C. If you're talking about differences, the "minus 32" in the conversion cancels out.

In Germany the insolation and the roof would have cost you about $40k- of course the result would be much better- that roof would not qualify for a dog house here- but you certainly improved it by a lot with not that much money so I would say you did a reasonable job on the roof that will buy you some time-

I think it would be interesting if you got a 2CV sahara (if that's even possible to get for a reasonable amount of money), once you recoup the money you spent on the shop and get rid of the Smart car.

Looked at the prices, nope, you cannot get that thing for a reasonable price, but a Renault 4CV is my second recommendation.
