Our house cat used to jump up to nearly the top of our vertical slatted wooden fence. I couldn't look over it and I'm 1,85m tall. Granted, she could rely on the fence bearing her weight. The bobcat's probably double the weight, and the wobbly wires might have the bobcat fumbling for a bit. I'm morbidly curious if it could manage to drag a chicken back over. But I hope I won't find out.
the dragging with parts and feathers in a long line are classic signs of a coyote. i lost a turkey in a similar way (in october damnit), and put out trail cams. sure enough got a big coyote on camera
4:15 I'm smelling coyote, they are intelligent, cunning, bold and charming. And if you have chickens, they WILL find a way to get at your chickens. They will trick your dog into thinking they're friends, they will find the weak spot in your fence, they will dig UNDER your fence, they'll climb over your fence, they'll damn near befriend you into opening up the coup for them to waltz in.
If need be put a layer of fencing across top and attach to the surrounding fence with wire. That should help deter some flying ones and if a larger animal or cat climbs up it be harder for them to get in yard. Our chickens usually scared the cats however our one neighbor hard large labrador dogs that came over and barked and tried to get to chickens through the fence and scared several of them to death :(
Seriously the most positive/heart-warming video possible. Yeah, it's a bummer the nice chicken died (I can understand the fox or whatever ate it - I would totally kill and eat it, as I have with other chickens, aaaallllthough... I'm Polish and I've never heard of Polish Crested or seen a chicken like that, weird, right?), but losing chickens aside, everything else was so positive - you do what you love, I love what you do (proud subscriber to both channels), you can not only live off of this, but support a whole family (I'm really surprised!) Because of this, I was genuinely smiling while watching! But then the smile widened because of the promise to bring back Aging Daily, if only for a brief while. I don't care what it's for - I love your humor and I want more of it in my life, more often! (Do you have a Paypal or Subscribestar for strange people like me who don't do Patreon for whatever reasons?)
For the Durango, if it has to be destroyed, I'd rather see it pushed to its limit rather than just crashing it in a tree. Looking forward to your next videos!
Something in your personality make me happy, watching you and see your happiness makes me happy too, thanks for your honesty and good attitude, I think we all love you no matter what you do.
Years ago my other half suggested we adopted some ex-commercial chickens. I wasn't fussed but went along with it. Within a week I was completely and utterly besotted, madly in love with these fun and interesting little birds, all with their own distinct personalities. Just the most fabulous little creatures.
You’re still dealing with that lump of Saab-shaped scrap metal blocking your garage door? Time to kick that one to the curb. I vaguely recall you’re storing it for free for some guy who takes parts off it once every 18 months or something... and I remember it being there since the trabant engine rebuild.
I absolutely love the honesty in your video. Your entire approach, both here and under done, is mesmerising. It feels likes you’re my next door neighbour, but we’re 1000s of miles apart and I don’t even know your name! Keep up the good work!
Suggestion from a guy who got heat exhaustion. Go to lighter color clothing. Ask me how I know. Be careful heat sneaks up on us folks who live in cooled houses. Be safe
Your videos are so heartwarming, it's great to see someone truly enjoying what they do as much as you do! Especially since I'm having a tough time myself, these are a breath of fresh air! Thank you, and all the best!
I'm really happy for you, Robert! Seeing you talk about how much you're happy with being able to work off UA-cam and live well really is hearth-warming. Can't wait for the videos on these projects!
loved the new additions and sorry for your loss of the others. :(. Being raised on a farm I can appreciate the attachment you get from having them and especially if so attached they come to the sound of their name being called.
I’m glad you’re happy, man. I’ve seen your channel grow and seen your transformation as a creator. You are doing amazing things and I wish you nothing but the best.
I can't wait to see your kid when he's 16-17 learning to drive a Trabant! Also, beware the turkeys. If you don't keep them socialized they can get mean.
Hey, I'm glad you're enjoying life, I know you had troubles in the past, as we all do, but it's really great seeing you this excited. I'll keep sticking around, and I'll probably subscribe to your other channel soon. Keep it up, Your Canadian fan, Moose
My best friend's father was a Union Electric (now Ameren) lineman. He showed me an easy way to drive ground rods, posts etc into the ground. Make a water drill out of a piece of 1/2" copper water pipe. On one end I soldered a faucet with threads for a garden hose on it. Using an adapter on one end of the garden hose so it can hook to male threads on each end, connect it to a water source. Turn on the faucet on the water drill and then work the pipe into the earth. Once you're as deep as you need, you should be able to push your ground rod/post in without much effort. If your soil is rocky you might have to push your ground rod/post in alongside the water drill. You'll make some mud to be sure, but I'd rather have muddy shoes and pants than blisters. It's a lot less physical work too, so not as much chance of heat exhaustion.
evilution No need for a decoy, even if it can’t get to them there are still chickens. It would just take a motion triggered wildlife camera to see what turns up to try to get them. Here in the UK it would most likely be a fox, I saw one in the garden about a week and a half ago, not that we have any chickens.
Thank you for sharing more of your life, your projects, your madness and creativity... I'm sad that you've lost two of your flock, and hope the steps you've taken now can keep the rest safe and happy. It's lovely to see how much you adore them. I adore you for your honesty, your excitement, and how much work you put into your videos. Whether's it's a carefully scripted and polished review, or a casual conversation, you still put the effort in. I think this video had more locations than a hollywood blockbuster :P It's wonderful to see you happy, and having success from your UA-cam work. It wasn't that long ago that you were taking that plunge with some trepidation about whether it would work at all. I love your videos, mostly because of your personality and that honesty and quality. I sincerely wish you and your human / feathered families well
I am glad that you have gotten to the point where you can enjoy life. I remember Wayback in the day whenever you were commenting on your struggles with anxiety. I struggle with anxiety every day but I am unmedicated. I am terrified to become medicated as well as I do not like mind altering drugs. I am so happy for you though! To hear you say that you have a great life and you’re really enjoying it really makes me happy
From a falconer: A hawk could kill and eat part of a chicken, but no hawk in North America can lift one and fly away with it. A barn owl could carry a small (under 5 pound) chicken and a golden or bald eagle could do the job, but large hawks (red tails, for instance) can't even fly away with a rabbit. Similarly, it couldn't sit and eat all of a chicken and then fly away for two reasons. First, it still can't carry the weight, even if it's internal, and second, it can't eat that volume of food in one sitting. A smaller hawk would have an even bigger problem with the situation. Too many people illegally shoot hawks for "stealing their chickens." It's just not possible, whatever their granddad told them. It's a coyote, fox, or bobcat, surely.
For the chickens, when we had chickens as a kid we had what we called the "chicken RV" which was basically a light wooden frame wrapped on the top and sides with chicken wire and put on wheels. We would push it to different places in the yard throughout the day. Don't think we ever lost one while it was in there. Though we had a dog who roamed around, so that might have helped keep bobcats and such away, so I'm not sure how it would have faired against a bobcat.
In places where they want to discourage birds flying around, they sometimes string up the heaviest gauge monofilament up above where you can't walk into it. (I've seen it at beaches to discourage gulls). The birds can't see it and are really annoyed when they hit it. That may keep hawks away from your chicken run.
I recommend a basic "game camera" setup on the back of the building facing the woods where crime #2 happened. I bet you'll catch the culprit on camera. That would at least give you an idea of how to 100% protect against that particular predator. Outta get some vinyl made for the Smart, Aging Wheels parts runner. Makes it a company vehicle and a write off. Needs a roof rack or a trailer hitch so you can use it for lumber runs too! That would be a kick! 20ft ladder on top of a 10ft car.

Hey Robert I have an idea about the bus. I think you should remove the springs or something the would lower the bus so it can fit in your shop. I hope you can see this. 👌
A good scarecrow can protect against birds of prey. You can also use an owl statue. Just be sure to move them around every few days, because hawks do pay attention and pick up on tricks quickly.
You're still the master of (not getting totally lost in...) the parenthetical comment. Sorry to hear about the chickens. My daughter's chicken brood was similarly decimated in rural New Hampshire a few weeks ago. We're still tuned in for whatever so, keep it comin' Robert!
"big bird scare hawk" might i suggest an ostrich or an Emu... just to make sure those predators are kept at bay... (this from a south african that see's these birds quite often on farms around here)
Speaking of chicken coops, a friend of mine, who we call Yoda, has a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle which spent 15 years as a chicken coop in mexico. Base model, as basic as basic can get. Straight 6 and a 3 speed manual. Being a Mexican market car, it didn't have seatbelts, head rests, or even a heater. No radio either. Literally the most stripped down factory car possible. Runs great!
Post hole digging in the dead of summer! That takes me back. It was a Michigan summer, but we also get days in the 90s, ultra-humid, with a heat index of 'kill me already.' Digging a trench for electrical to a garage was worse.
You totally could have made a video out of the chicken pen. Casual and unscripted for Under Dunn? I came to this channel for bus and stayed for chickens.
Brilliant. i do miss the unscripted videos. great to see what you have been up to. maybe an easy video to do again soon would be an update on all your vehicles. why you have them, what the plans are etc.
So glad to see your going to be working on the wheego....I hope you get it up and running again....it's actually the reason I subscribed to the channel because I was considering buying one but it fell thru.....anyway keep up the great content and hopefully see the wheego going soon
I love the Thing you got goin on with your Chickens, especially that you seem to be enthusiast about different and interesting breeds! At my parents Home we were incubating an keeping chickens for many years, and it always was enteraining to have them around. They may be not the smartest, but it's just adorable how everyone got it's very own Personallity, it's own habit's or sometimes just doing dumb stuff that makes you laugh. Your description of the Fluffy-Head-one reminds me so much of one chicken we had (an Australorp), she was a real troublemaker, always noisy and dominating the other chickens, flew over the fence when she wanted to and making a mess of the neighbours gardens ':D My favourite Breed are Sussex, they are very calm, friendly and quite consistant in laying eggs, i really can recommend them. Wish you the best with keeping your chickens safe from Predators in future!
stay safe, would hate to see you end in feathers. i raised layers, it was so much fun, and the guano was great for the garden after it cooled. everyone thought the chickens loved me, but no they new who fed them and protected them from harm, love the vid
I once drove a Dodge Durango rental for a week. It would wallow on a smooth straight road at 50mph in perfect weather conditions. Good luck with your specimen.
In regards to the Dodge Durango, may I suggest a super cheap and extremely fun project that has no immediate deadline; LeMons, the $500 car races where the whole idea is to get creative with cheap junk and make something that is awful and definitely is **not** a race car, but will go around a track maybe four or even five times before being entirely broken.
look into making a chicken tractor. I agree with the others on getting a goose or 2.. if you have a concern about birds, add a couple of higly visible lines above the pen, rope is fine or you can get rolls of stretchy netting.. Ive done it over my koi pond with good results
Well done. Happy to support you in my tiny way. Like you I can do anything I want, when I want, except I get a nice pension paid by the government. I only own 2 cars but I do own my little house. It's a nice retirement after 50 years of work and I'm still going strong. Ain't life good sometimes? Even in lockdown I can watch cheerful people like you who are endlessly entertaining. Cheers to you :-)
Snap. I have a Trabant and hens! I just had to have a Trabby, I was living in West Berlin in 1989 at the time of the fall of the wall. In my part of the planet (Lancashire, UK) foxes are the villains.
They're called chicken coops because they have two doors.
If they had four doors they would be chicken sedans.
That gets a sensible chuckle from me

i sense salmonella academy vibes
My respects, sir.

Hey Robert I have an idea about the bus.
I think you should remove the springs or something the would lower the bus so it can fit in your shop. I hope you can see this. 👌
He can lower the tires as well
A good scarecrow can protect against birds of prey. You can also use an owl statue. Just be sure to move them around every few days, because hawks do pay attention and pick up on tricks quickly.
I'm looking forward to whatever project you work on next. I come here for the honesty and enthusiasm for life 🙂
The humidity is incredible in Missouri !! I grew up in Arnold btw,,,
You're still the master of (not getting totally lost in...) the parenthetical comment.
(this from a south african that see's these birds quite often on farms around here)
Great job with the coop! Thanks for taking us along.
@agingwheels use a truck drive shaft cut in half with the yoke still on the end a post driver. More mass
Runs great!
Glad you're well Robert.
Excited about the prospect of more ageing daily bus vids in the future.
Turkey's can be pretty smart too, they will follow you around no matter how far you get from them lol. Sorry about Birb, she was awesome.
The chickens are so cool - the turkeys are awesome. You have done a great job with the run and enclosure dude! Glad you are enjoying your freedom too!
Third channel, chicken cam...... seen squirrel channel.... was amazed on seeing how Manley people watch that
Post hole digging in the dead of summer!
Keep up the good work. Even if it doesn't lead directly to videos, that's okay.
Your description of the Fluffy-Head-one reminds me so much of one chicken we had (an Australorp), she was a real troublemaker, always noisy and dominating the other chickens, flew over the fence when she wanted to and making a mess of the neighbours gardens ':D
My favourite Breed are Sussex, they are very calm, friendly and quite consistant in laying eggs, i really can recommend them.
Aw man, I loved your destruction reviews! They were the first videos of yours I saw, I sure hope the Durango can get the same treatment one day. :)
Thank you for quality content
In regards to the Dodge Durango, may I suggest a super cheap and extremely fun project that has no immediate deadline; LeMons, the $500 car races where the whole idea is to get creative with cheap junk and make something that is awful and definitely is **not** a race car, but will go around a track maybe four or even five times before being entirely broken.
look into making a chicken tractor. I agree with the others on getting a goose or 2.. if you have a concern about birds, add a couple of higly visible lines above the pen, rope is fine or you can get rolls of stretchy netting.. Ive done it over my koi pond with good results
Finally! Long white socks and shorts are back in fashion. I can finally get my socks out of the vacuum bags. Thanks for the vijeo!
So happy to see you so happy! Keep up the great work. :)
MORE CHICKEN CONTENT PLEASE
Happy belated birthday to mini aging wheels
Ur child is 5? They're plenty old enough to be put to work
Ok Elon Musk
have him rebuild the wheego
OK Bangladesh
Ok advocate for child labor
yikes
Great video, greater legs, and those socks were double dipped in awesome sauce! Keep up the good work!
