    I'm going to University to study digital arts this coming year, and this is really helpful and inspiring. Most of the internet is basically telling me to give up so this is really inspiring!

      You can achieve amazing things if you put hard work and dedication into it! There are tough times for any job. Try it and see how far you get :)

    First time I hear somebody saying the same thing I have thought for long time: There is no such thing as talent. Its basically just "drive" or huge enthusiasm toward something you like. If your drive is to play guitar in every possible situation and do this for years - you eventually get amazingly good at it an you may become next Steve Vai or Joe Satriani or Jimi Hendrix or whoever is your idol. That's why it is important to work on area that interests you and not where just pay is great. Well ok, if You can't live off your salary, then you probably won't be very enthusiastic. Eventually some people who don't know you well may call you talented.

    There is talent. Don’t be jelly of others peoples talent .

    so basically unless you start your own company by the age of 45 you wont find a job anymore because who would want to hire a senior when they can hire a cheap beginner... thats what project based means

    An important question: what is more requested in the industry in general, 2D or 3D animations?

    • @AnimatorIsland
      @AnimatorIsland  7 років тому +7

      TV still heavily relies on 2D, while feature films are all 3D - with a few notable exceptions (Carton Salon, Studio Ghibli). Oh and don't forget games and VR. Personally, if you are interested in 2D, I would advise you to learn both. The basic principles are the same, it's just a tool. And the more tools you have in your toolbox, the better.

    • @stefanorolando6674
      @stefanorolando6674 7 років тому

      Thank you! My plan was actually to learn both: I like both but animating in 2D feels so good to me that I didn't want to avoid it entirely. I'll focus on 3D, but I'll pratice both at the same time and make two reels.

    Why is it that these people can never give a straight answer when it comes down to income/salary?

    • @AnimatorIsland
      @AnimatorIsland  5 років тому +1

      Well, it does depend on the kind of job and location. But yeah, I think too that people should discuss their salaries more openly. This way it's easier to notice and combat exploitation.

    • @th3azscorpio
      @th3azscorpio 5 років тому

      @@AnimatorIsland Agreed. A lot of artist get exploited by feeling like they have to undermarket themselves.

      most of it is also contract-based and depends on the job, so it can vary a lot

      Yeah... The stuff that I had didn't really fit that well (people walking in the halls, close up of signs). You are not allowed to film actual talks or panels. I think a lot of people tend to listen to interviews in the background more than watching anyway. Also, we are still doing this non-profit in our spare time, so this alone puts some limitations on us in the amount of polish we can do. However, I will keep it in mind, but I can't promise anything. As always thanks for your comment and watching! We really appreciate it 😀

      I would love to see where in the world this is, home of the famous..., looking at the people, their art, even stills would be something more than saying this is just a podcast. You gave me many hints to make my work more interesting, the least I can do is the same.

      I totally understand! And don't get me wrong I really do value your input! I will see what I can do for the next FMX video. In 2014 we made a little trailer that shows some footage of the FMX: ua-cam.com/video/r9ZZQIp_sDo/v-deo.html Here is what I was allowed to film from one of the workshops in 2013: ua-cam.com/video/yUNRDtKKIOs/v-deo.htmlm5s

    I disagree strongly on one thing. There are truly those that just can't do it and try to do it anyways. Sorry to burst the bubble.

    • @AnimatorIsland
      @AnimatorIsland  6 років тому +3

      Hmm, well, "can" has two meanings. To be clear, I don't think everybody WILL make it unconditionally. What I have seen is people who overestimate their skills and have no realistic perception of themselves and therefor barely practice or not the right things. If you don't leave that path when you are on it, yes, you won't make it - but everybody has a chance. It's up to them to use that chance.
