BRADFORD (UK) TO PAKISTAN BY ROAD
Вставка
- Опубліковано 10 бер 2018
- In 1993 a trio of Bradford taxi drivers, FAZAL, PATRICK, AND AZAD, decide to buy three used Transit vans in Britain and drive them overland all the way to northern Pakistan. Their plan is to sell the vehicles on arrival at a nice profit, and then to celebrate the Eid Muslim festival with their extended families. A quirky and often comical film, the “Punjab Road Runners”, charts their stumbling passage through Western Europe, Eastern Europe, and Asia (50 minutes)
I am deeply humbled for this refreshing response and really thanks to all of you and please consider subscribing to my channel as well . Check the description of the video to see the details . Thanks 🙏
Many thanks!
Are these guys still alive ?
you have no idea guys the memories this brought back....
late hubby was a heavy recovery mend all mechanic.
loved this vlog,in the days when mucking in ment no genda, religion,or where you came from, all in it together......thankyou for posting this ❤😊
I really enjoyed this video and thanks for posting. As a seasoned traveler I love your matter of fact and honest account of life on the road . Well done 🙏
BUDDA hell, was it one way?
This is so underrated. I love the fact a Pakistani and a West Indian can make me feel so British and take me back to a time of growing up
Im Irish have to say, those guys are the real top gear legends 👌☘️
Erin go Braigh
True
That's what I was thinking too. Even red,White & Blue van 🤣I recon that was just a fluke. But reminded me of the Minis in The Italian Job.
🇵🇰❤️🇮🇪
🍀🇮🇪
This is one of the most Bradford things I've ever seen. It reminds me of so many of my friends, neighbours and colleagues. brilliant.
I am from Bradford and I am white and we love transit vans and currys we have some of the best currys you have ever tasted i would love to see were these guys are now and if they still live in Bradford good luck guys I hope you have had a blessed life 😊😊😊
fuck off. Leads have it best.
The fly tipping in Germany was hilarious😂
Classic filth
Back then things like this were gold for alot of people I'm sure it was collected by a passer by and put to good use
I saw this back when i was a kid! ive looked high and low for this... even told mates about it years back, they all thought i was crazy and talking crap and here it is! haha.
Azad filling his van is just typical Pakistani mentality.
What a joyous journey that was. Of all the quirky little gems, UA-cam has found and recommended this to us. Thank you Awais.
And this is why the racism and partisanship we see these days is such a shame and so very pointless. We are all one people under the sun and the better for it. Thanks for uploading
Fazal aka Bradford’s Escobar promised his mate Patrick that he’ll give him a trip to Pakistan of a lifetime. He bloody kept his promise… 😆
The top gear trip to Asia special we never had
Bloody brilliant been a Bradfordian, this is awesome the truth about Bradford people many races and religions but all got along great back then
My dad and his friend drove a Volkswagen beetle from the UK to Pakistan in the 60s. The car is still there in Lahore and being driven daily
What a beautifully heart-warming story, much better than anything that would get on TV. I hope your vans arrived safely.
Was broadcast on Channel 4 originally
@@aidy6000 My apology to Channel 4. Would that be how there come to be shots of all the vans going past the camera?
This was brilliant, very well filmed and documented. These three should have done more of these, the original Top Gear
Yep. Agree, this was very good....
it was professionally done, if you watch the end you will seen the credits coming up
😂 I too was thinking TOP GEAR
Wow, just wow. I'd heard of a lot of our elders fantasising about a road trip to Pakistan (they used to refer to it as 'by road') or talking about someone who did. And here you don't just have someone who did it, but documented it. Legends!
The commentary by Fazal is hilarious
This is as brilliant as it is mad. Even the talking is different. Just nostalgic. Love it. Pulled by Dutch immigration with two different DOBs…he bloody deserved it 😂. Are these guys still alive? Felt sorry for Patrick 😂Love it.
Dude! The guy narrating gave me a lift and told me this whole story and ive just randomly found this on Utube! Unbleaviable!!
A very eventful anecdote thanks for letting me know.😊
I remember seeing this when it first came out and was in stitches with laughter and admiration; absolutely wonderful and a lasting tribute to the combination of both Yorkshire and Pakistani cultures - the red, white and blue vans being a subtle assertion of British superiority in the mindset of the British minicab army !!!
Or a homage to The Italian Job!
This could be a good comedy film.Well done guys!take my hat off to you all.
Absolutley Brilliant loved every minute of it, my Swedish friend who visited us in India, bought vehicles motorbikes and cars then drove them to Sweden, he still drives around Sweden with Pakistani plates 👌😂😂😊 use to take him 6 weeks for his journey 🙏
A really insightful and well put together story. Considering it’s age I’m gonna say this is a million times better than most of the stuff on YT these days 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I’m from Bradford and can Remember Andrew ilia’s vans like that. It’s nice to see this way of life as times have changed a lot. I must of watched this 5 times . I bet them mk2 vans worth a lot more now than when they took them across
sat in hospital await an appointment and talking to a Pakistan lady and telling her about the vid and how good it is, I love overlanding and this is the most basic of vehicles and well fimed
I watched nearly more than 10times . Gr8 video and vocal for that era. Wish to meet the people in real life.
This bought back many memories as I did the same route by bicycle in '95. Similar run around at East European borders, extortionate visa prices and the mucking around with many visits whilst applying for the Iran visa in Ankara. My buddy's application was rejected for no reason and I just got given a 5-day transit visa. Luckily this was easily extendable once inside Iran. It's a shame because the Iranians were the most hospitable & helpful people I've ever encountered. It's easy to forget that back in the early 90's no one had mobile phones or internet to hand instead relying on info from other travellers mainly...
Good on you, that must have been an experience!
Damnnn
I've heard how lovely Iranian people are. Sadly politics is a dirty business and I never believe BBC news or mainstream news. I hope to go to Iran and Afghanistan one day
The Iranian embassy in Islamabad turned down my visa application but they gave me tea, biscuits and some sweets. The chap was very apologetic and blamed 'politics '.
I would love to get to Iran and head to Quetta.
What a bike ride!
@@Fercough Was that in more recent years? I couldn't imagine things changing politics wise sadly
10 mins in and cant stop laughing. This is brilliant 😂 thank you for putting this together.
I can't even begin to imagine how hard a trip like this would have been at the time. You would have needed to bring a few more currencies (this was pre-Euro), GPS wasn't accessible to civilians, the political landscape was very different, I would have to spend a solid month at libraries doing research and phoning embassies to ensure all my papers were in order. Keeping family at the destination and back home informed would involve sending off postcards or if you could afford it, making a phone call (and international calls were *expensive* back then).
Wow, I'm 19. It's crazy how different the world was, not too long ago.
Great upload. Loved the commentary! This could’ve easily been a full running series with road trips to other countries. Great camera work and capturing the moments.
The Commentary was brilliant.
30 years, brings back memories of old school lot and the good old days. It's was how it was.
WHAT A LEGEND. just came across this in my feed. Fazal narration top notch
Once Italian ambassador in Islamabad said to me, “Italians are Pakistanis of Europe and Pakistanis are Italians of Asia, they’re so alike”. This ambassador, lived in Pakistan as a 10 year old kid too as his dad was first secretary in Islamabad in 60s.
Well, vehicle colours, red, blue & white tells it all…
great story raja
This is absolute class. A real blast from the past. Thanks for sharing.
I did this trip in my 1979 Toyota Corolla, drove it all the way back in 1984. I was only 18 ! I got separated from the other two Ford Transit mates till Istanbul. I really enjoyed the trip till I reached Iran border. Even with a valid visa they fked us about and made us sleep in the cars in the middle July heat. They treated us badly.
Azad ... the dickhead ! loads his van everything even the kitchen sink. Bit of a dodo !!
I wish I could do that trip again.
Iran is rubish country thy dont like pakistani
Do you remember karachi cafe leeds rd?
@@aStranger.aTravellerPeaceToAll Sorry I don't I'm afraid. Money was tight back then, as it does to most youngsters so I couldn't afford going to places like McDonalds, restaurants and cafes but times were good back then.
@@khalidaziz5991 okay, name Muhammad Azmat ring a bell? Bd3/bd8?
@@aStranger.aTravellerPeaceToAll Brother I am from a very small town called Burton on Trent which is near Derby.
Great documentary,. As a Yorkshire lad I am truly liking Fazal's Yorkiestani accent and comments. Well done to all involved truly a great journey. Did they get the Transits back?
No
Pakishire accent.
No, Pakistan is full of Mk1 and Mk2 transit vans still being used to thus day and they appear to be in very good condition
I truly enjoyed this as an American who lives bi-coastal meaning both the US and in the UK my heart went out to their frustrations with border crossing and customs.
This guy is an absolute legend. He needs to have his own travel show just him Patrick and of course Azad lol just think of the shenanigans they’d get up too lol
Spot on, absolutely agree with you 👍
Yes but Azad would probably fly to some studios in Londonderry instead of drive or train to London cause he got the confused. So he would have to live stream on his iPhone. But it would have 5% battery.
@@Landie_Man 😂
Couldn’t agree more with all of the comments. This was excellent! So many obstacles but all sorted one way or another in the end - a real adventure! Thanks for uploading this pure gold. 🙏
Red white and blue vans ?
This is the Pakistani job 😎
The Punjabi Road Runners.....
I have found this video by pure off chance, I remember watching this, years ago, and I have always remembered it, what an amazing adventure, I hope you lads are well, and thank you, and best wishes, and keep smiling ☺️.
Absolutely love this! Love the have a go attitude of them all. How tf did they find each other when lost without mobiles etc. Top men
A great film put together with technology of the time, loved it from start to finish. You should do a 2024 re-run!
I bet you wish you could buy a mk2 transit for under a grand now . Brilliant video. I used to live just down the road from a1 taxis in wibsey.
*That was an amazing video footage*
I did travel across to Russia with my Wife in 1996 in a Ford 1.3 Escort. It was a great memorable journey. ❤
Through to Eastern Europe, yes people were overlooking me as a Species from Outer Space, cause at the time they rarely saw Asian people the further east we went, especially in rural villages and small towns. My wife was from there so she was only a communicator.
Love to hear your story in full
Where did you drive to?
Excellent, even with all the trials and tribulations, you all had an adventure, learnt a lot and overall made it to Pakistan! Well Done
Funny anuff I watched this about 10 years ago... and now im going to watch it again..✌🤙🙏
Wow, what an amazing inspirational journey, and against all odds, you showed if you have enough determination it can be possible. Very good watch thank you
My dad did the exact same from Manchester in a bog standard transit... hats of to you
narrator is excellent in his expression, language and vocabulary. 👍
Can't speak English. Only good for a laugh
What a little gem of a slice of life. Thanks for posting.
7:30 is the best narration on any travel show ive seen.
Yes 7:30 I had to watch it again. Classic.
This guy was born to be a presenter
The dickhead was almost under his breath and in that accent was fasf
To him the word has a different meaning I guess, otherwise why does he used it so casual 😂
What a great documentary. legendary journey to boot...
some heart warming and funny moments in this video, thank you, love from Newcastle Upon Tyne
Now I know where Top Gear got their inspiration from
Came across this video by chance and very glad I did too .. A mesmerising experience from start to finish ..Congratulations to everyone involved
Wow simply amazing, traveling from UK to Pakistan that too 30 years before with no high tech cars, technology, GPS, Cridet Card etc, its requires legends to be travelling in such conditions.
I agree. You really needed to plan ahead back then!
I was also thinking the same. Amazing job done by guys.
What crazy wonderful trip but most impressive your humility and filming editing. Well done.
Now this is ace. What a hidden gem of a documentary.
This is an incredible video, I just love it. I’ve driven many of those roads as I’ve lived in Europe and Asia and always loved long road trips. I know this was a long time ago, but rearding visa issues such as the one you experienced in Ankera , the golden rule is avoid any embassy In a capital city and instead find a consulate in as small a town as you can find one. There is always consulate near the main road border in my experience. Also when dealing with border staff, never show that you are annoyed, keep smiling and laughing and when they ask for money just try and laugh it off as a joke. Also if a small border opens at 6am try and be there at 6am, it’s amazing how easier it is when they are half asleep. Driving in Turkey today is basically very similar to driving in UK! No need for concern or anxiety.
Loved watching this .I remember people travelling to pakistan by road when I was a child. You shouldn't have taken Azad he was a liability. I loved your commentary. Even though this is quite a few years old
Best narration. Quality stuff. Thank you for uploading.
Amazing! Thanks for sharing. What a road-trip.
Awesome! Real spirit of adventure. If you did it now, at least you'd have air-con
I really enjoyed that and it was a brilliant throwback to the 90's. Very good 🙌
I really am enjoying this! Just what I needed,,kinda nostalgic as well!👌
I can't wait to watch this tonight, my favourite type of film
Totally inspiring and entertaining recording. Thank you so much for sharing.
Great video! travel vlogging before travel vlogging was invented. 👍 Love the slick front tyre at 26:30 🤣
Cracking older video of the time. Lived in and travelled to a few of the places along the road.
i remember watching this then it was on tele and i thoroughly enjoyed it so thank you for sharing this one some great moments in this
Great documented video. We used to go to east Germany from Leicester in vans to run markets.
Thoroughly enjoyed this video. Many dream to travel overland ( including myself) but few actually do it.
Brilliant,, watched it twice
Once on my phone, then on my telly,,, legends
Loved this. Used to work in Sunbridge rd. bfd. Now in Cornwall. A real truthful eye opener. Well done all.
Amazing documentary, why cant they make programmes like this again.
Thank you so much, you Saved my day ! A very nice docu!
Best thing I've seen in a long time 👌👌🙂
You guys are amazing.Well done and The best wishes to all 3 of you and your families.
L
Fantastic film, loved it.! Those old transits went on forever, a new one would never make it, or imagine trying in an EV! 😂
Those transit vans are still being used in Pakistan to this day and they are in very good condition.
I really enjoyed that video, thanks for posting.
Wow Talk about ahead of its time, What an absolute gem
What a brilliant documentary. Thanks.
Fantastic and really informative video. This group leader was a witty commentator and as a non-muslim Brit I managed to feel his frustrations and happier times throughout.
And it was decent of him to acknowledge that he finds British laws to be fair but struggled at times in Muslim countries such as Iran and Turkey.
I hate racism. I also hate racism thinly veiled by religious culture. It is sad that your journey may have been easier without taking your non-pakistan heritage friend but it shows that racism is alive in all corners of the world and that Britain's laws are sometimes comparatively good.
Anyway, I'm glad you at least all made it to Pakistan in one piece and gave your friend a trip of a lifetime.
A really wonderful documentary film, really enjoyed watching this. Great voice over too, what an amazing experience you must have had, well done!
That seems like an epic road trip! Would love to go that far in a van!
What an adventure, a great story really well told😊
Congratulations on your wonderful adventure. I really enjoyed hearing about it.
Really enjoyed this short film, loved seeing all the mk2 an mk 1 transits 👍
What a great video of an epic roadtrip.thank you.
Wouldn’t mind an update pleeeeeeease
Absolutely wonderful and without any gadgets wow🎉
Man what a lovely documentary! I can’t believe you guys did this before this technology and all that! Asalam alikom from California
Really great video. an awesome watch and adventure. very well made. Thanks for posting.
I remember hearing of crazy road trips like this when I was younger. The self reliance to take food and a gas canister to cook their own food as well as bunking in the back of the van.
Would be good to hear how the main guys got on later in life. Hope they had good experiences they appear to have been a good bunch of people
My maternal grandfather took one of this to Pakistan in 1982
probably still on road there .....
Great documentary. Loved it. Best commentary in UA-cam history is at 7m30s.
I do love how they speak in a Yorkshire accent - with a Pakistani lilt to it!!
7:15 I couldn't stop laughing at this part LMAOO!!
Thoroughly enjoyed the “trip”
