It's what I sometimes try to build with cheat codes in The Sims, except I realize halfway through that I don't even have the architectural skills to pull off the style (or sometimes, lack thereof). And so these buildings make me feel inferior twice.
I’d bet my hamster jumper that the infidels next door stole Charles and made a fortune off his impunity somehow and now Simon’s trying to expose their summer home on some Tiger King shit. Alegendly.
We now have what we call our new Billionaire Row here in Seattle. It used to be the Bill Gates neighborhood but in the past 3 years they have built 6 apartment buildings over 40 stories high with 6 more on the way in the Denny Triangle and Cascade neighborhoods. They start selling in the low $10 millions up to $780 million in the condo buildings and renting for $8k@mo for a studio up to $149k@mo for a 3 bedroom on the 36th floor. It is strange for me as I live in the last house in the area built in 1910 and pay $1200@mo for a 3 bedroom. I have watched the craftsman homes scattered in the old warehouses and factories turn into multi million dollar apartments that blot out the sun over the past 26 years. We have artist and musicians renting out the few remaining run down office buildings and warehouses in town and trying to collectively live in them to get by. Art and music in Seattle will soon die when those performers have to leave to live.
Hahaha yes, fun fact: When I wanted this written that's what I thought the writer would cover... But I got this, liked it, and like the title enough to keep it. Plus still relevant :).
The Whistler Channels (and I vote we collectively call his channels that) have spun off each other. I'm wouldn't be surprise if while they did the Top Tenz on billionaire houses they decided to spin off an episode in this channel for houses they were not able to include.
Lol I saw this this morning and was like "... wait posted 2 hrs ago? Didn't I watch it last night in between waking up to use the restroom?" .... then I realized it was different
If I were him, I'd be crying about spending 1 billion dollars on a building that's so spectacularly ugly. It just boggles the mind that anyone could look at the architect's drawing etc. for this building and say "Yes, I like that. Build it for me." Still, I suppose he doesn't have to look at it, unlike all the unfortunate people who live in the area.
It may just be me, but I almost exclusively watch videos from my subscriptions these days and it's rare that a recommended/front page video piques my interest enough to click on. But if it's not just me (seems likely), then it's probably worth doing a video on a subject that lots of other channels are doing because I imagine more people just watch certain channels as opposed to searching for various content and watching whichever random channel pops up with it.
I live there. Not much of Euclid Ave is left and another block of midrange mansions have been stripped for demolition. Most of it's just fast food and even those joints are struggling :-/
The town where Bill Gates lives, Madina is pronounced "Ma dy na " here in the Seattle area. I rode my bike on a street close to his house once when I was lost and I was stopped by private security that pointed me on my way and followed me for about 3 miles of my ride.
What you didn't mention was that each of these "homes" are actually Continental's that John Wick and his fellow assassin's can stay at, if they have a gold coin to spare.
Money is just that, money! We are all human beings first and foremost! Everything else comes after that! And we are all born and die in the same way! Even so, well done Simon!
Dear Mr Whistler, Thank you for your videocasts. One feels a bit wiser after each download. Simon, can you do one on the current anti-biotic crisis everyone is talking about? You know what I mean, about anti-biotics running out of steam. Is it true or not?
Too bad you didn’t use more than one image of the beautiful Villa Leopoldo in France, it’s quite stunning. We live a few kms away from it and are actually going hiking above it tomorrow. Oh yeah, Hitchcock never filmed anything on the grounds.
The figures quoted in this video are unimaginable to me---especially since I was informed this morning that the rent for my 444 square foot "Large Studio" apartment will increase on January First. This is the third rise in two years, which is fun since our benevolent Congress is decidedly niggardly in increasing our Social Security benefits (last year I received a _handsome_ *$2.00* per month raise---and took back $1.00 per month SNAP, so $12 a year). Stay safe, everyone.
My buddies’ parents bought a floor in One Hyde Park. They paid 48 million pounds and had to pay it all upfront at moments notice after they won the private auction!!!
The Simon whistler conspiracy has been decoded. He does all measurements in both murican and metric. After a few months of being addicted to all of his channels I am suddenly starting to better understand meters and kilos and such. it is actually been a really great way to learn about many interesting things as my brain slowly built an understanding of various measurements.

I can't speak directly for B.C. But I grew up in Southeast Alaska... and I still believe it is one of the most beautiful places on Earth. I don't live there now, but a cabin on an island with some fish in the creek and some deer in the woods is all I'd want out of "retirement." I'm still in my 30's. At 64 years of age, sir, I hope you get your dream, because it sounds like a happy one to me.
watch any episode of anything where they invite Alex Jones trying to fact-check and debunk him only to realize most of the "crazy shit" is actually true
How can the world's most expensive home look like it was designed and built to fit in a slum? Seriously, it looks like it was added to over the course of decades as the need arose and about to collapse any minute. WTF was the architect thinking? Only thing missing is the corrugated sheet metal for walls.
Bill Gates is a pauper next to JD Rockefeller when the wealth is adjusted for inflation. JD Rockefeller is the wealthiest American to ever live with a net worth adjusted for inflation of $350 Billion. The funny part is if you visit his Winter mansion in Ormond Beach Florida it is just 7K square feet!
Why would anyone want a home they could get lost in? And who needs 32 bedrooms? With studio apartments costing $2,000/month and one-bedrooms costing $1,700/month (I agree, that makes zero sense) in my little suburb, I think I'll stick with my small house...
That's Mukesh Ambani, Indian names can be funny. But Simon you should check out the story of Mukesh Ambani and how he is growing his business and wealth. Please do an episode on him

I'm sure that the reason Simon lives in Prague is because he can have a nice home for what he makes there compared to London.
The basement is already complete
@@howellgreenland2506 We don't talk about Simons basement!

Fortunately, the radiator was installed first, so a single really long chain and some nameless writer can do all of the labor.
All of that money well deserved as he works his ass off here........

5th Avenue.
@@earlofsmeg Billionaires Row is south of the park, not east.
@@rockets4kids Well actually yes, it's W57th street. It used to be 5th avenue. During the Gilded Age. I forgot to mention that little detail.

Keep the vids coming, Simon and everyone else that works there!
I truly love your sense of humor.
Sure let Bill shoot me up with a mind controlling microchip! He'll probably make better decisions than I do

I guess it will cure your lobotomy
Not sure if you have covered it yet but Hearst Castle may be worth a look. Pretty impressive.
The amount of work you and your team put into these channels is amazing!
You should def do a video on the biggest government buildings
He has done a few on Geographics and one on Megaprojects that i can recall.
They mostly looked stunning, but that one in Mumbai looked like an office block that was built in 60's Britain.
"It's ok, you're crazy" - Simon .. just about perfect :)
Thanks

There is a difference between having good taste and being a tacky vulgarian.
That last mess is one of the ugliest buildings ever, not even in a bad taste way, its just ugly.
If you ever needed evidence that money can't buy taste, this is it.
In Cleveland, Ohio there was once a street called Millionaires Row at the time because that is where the people like Rockefeller lived.

I don’t know how it took me this long to realize, but I like the different theme music for every channel.

what about 5 most expensive Yachts for a side project ? always great stuff on all the channels
