Brought one of these about a year and a half ago after watching the 2 door on hoovies. Spent 1800 Had 130k, its at 145 and runnig great. Very reliable car and was in mint condition auto,no sunroof. I did the valve cover gasket and its nice and sludge free inside. I plan on getting it to at least 200k. The higher in mileage ot goes, the more money i save per mile.
Hey Peter, just figured out how to knock out that SRS light on the dash. If the camry ever had a clogged AC drainage tube, it will backup and overflow, possibly damaging the control module under it. What I did was get another SRS control module and plugged that one in, and the light went out. This means that the crash sensors are good, and the clock spring is not shot. I know this is unrelated with this vid, but I hope this info reaches the person who needs it. In the state I live in, they are now checking for both the check engine light and the SRS(Red airbag) light to come on and then go off, on the dash.
Forgot to rotate the crankshaft 1 7/8th with loose tensioner to pick up belt slack as the final step before tightening tensioner bolt. Critical step so the belt doesnt jump and/or develop an awful slapping sound.
I did this and the car is running smooth, except the temperature gauge goes all the way to hot. The car is not overheating though. I replaced thermostat but it is still overheating according to gauge. I put the heater on and air comes out warm.
Make sure your coolant temperature sensor is working and bleed all of the air out of the cooling system. Check other videos on youtube on how to do these.
Hello! Please, could you tell me if when the timing belt breaks on the Toyota Camry 2.2 5S-FE engine there is damage to the cylinder head and valves? Thanks.
@@PeterFinnTheCarDoctor No, that is wrong. The Toyota Camry 2.2 liter 5S-FE engine is a non-interference engine so pistons will not collide with valves if timing belt breaks.
@pedroluizsignore4582 If the timing belt breaks on the Toyota Camry 2.2 Liter 5S-FE engine, the pistons will not hit the valves. The Toyota Camry 2.2 Liter 5S-FE engine is a non-interference engine, so you can drive it until the timing belt breaks. The only bad thing is that it might break in an area where you'll be stranded and have to get your car towed.
A client called me to check is Toyota Camry 2000 model with a 5sfe engine which always have a broken timing belt about 4 days after replacement. When I examined the car the only thing I saw that seems to be faulty was that the belt was weak, not really tensioned. The engineers have replaced the timing belt adjuster but to no prevail, the belt keeps cutting off. There was no oil on the belt that could be responsible for that. Please help me, what could be causing the belt to cut frequently?
put a breaker bar on the crankshaft and wedge it in somewhere. Then crank the engine quickly and hey presto it will be loose and you can remove it by hand
@siennachappell What if the car starts when you crank it? Don't you remove fuses for ignition and fuel pump? Then start car until it dies out and try starting another couple of times to make sure car doesn't start? Do you have to crank the engine or just tap the key a couple of times to engage the starter until the 19mm bolt on harmonic balancer loosens? You're missing a lot of vital information. You're giving just enough information to make this dangerous. Please elaborate next time so there isn't a possibility of someone getting hurt.
After installing the timing belt and removing slack. Im noticing that the crankshaft pulley timing mark is aligned right. But the camshaft mark IS NOT IN ALIGNMENT. ITS CONSISTENLY FORWARD BY 2 inches or so...again this is when the harmonic balancer is at the zero mark. Is this okay? Im referring to the 'camshaft gear'...the camshaft gear hole is past the camshaft vertical notch/camshaft seal area. ie. on every 2nd complete 360 degree turn of the crankshaft gear...the camshaft hole is at 1 o' clock versus the camshaft vertical mark which is 12 0'clock. I want to know can the car still run okay despite this? I can tell that the camshaft marks are off because I made marks with white out before installing the belt. I have not tried to start the engine yet either.
@SuperHtownswag Do not start your car like that. There's a very good possibility your pistons will collide with your valves and cause major engine damage. You need to watch another video that shows you how to start from scratch. You'll need to line up the hole in the camshaft gear with the vertical notch on camshaft bearing cap while the timing mark on the crankshaft sprocket is lined up with the mark on the engine block.
Your belt has slack when you tightened the tensioner belt causing y=the belt the be out by 1 tooth. Look at your white painted timing marks on the belt.
The correct timing is when the timing mark on the harmonic balancer is between 0 to 10 degrees with no jumper connected between terminals E1 and TE1. When you connect a jumper between terminals E1 and TE1 the timing mark on the harmonic balancer should be between 8 to 12 degrees.
Thanks for this video. Have to do this this weekend, and I feel much better going into it now.
Great !
Thank you peter you did a good job I'm going to do the timing belt in my camry 2.0 1985
Ok, I read your comment and Thanks 👍😀
MAN THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS!
92 Toyota, has 200k miles and would not start one day.
Oh God, what am I getting ready to get into! lol
Thanks
great trick! people usually mark the pulley/engine. Marking the pulley/belt is much better. Even the mighty Scotty marks the pulley/engine!
Great point!

Thanks. Good feedback. :-)
It won't even be broke in until 200k lol if you stay on top of your maintenance these cars can go 300-400k easy

Hi, some airbag could be bad or some wire is loosen
Thanks alot this helped me out alot with the information you gave
thank you for your instruction, exellence job.
Thank You. :-) BR Peter
Professional work 100!
👍
Thank for your video.i will do change my camry 1999 very soon.i am not sure like 100000 mile or 5 years or 6 years of drive.
Glad it helped

Thank You for comment. 👍😀
Thank you for your videos. Hoping to be one of the last '93 Camrys on the road =D
Thanks, but as for me I always Tim the engine by using the down belt cover to Tim the grandshaft second I put the camshaft on point 👈👌👌👌👌
You can run into problems that way.
💖💖🥰🙏🙏 * I am so grateful for your videos. 🙏 Love all the details you show.. ~ Your a life saver. 💪💯💯
Good 👍
Thank you for this
Ok
Good work sir!
Thank you! Cheers!
Great video can you make one on this engine how to replace cranshaft
😀👍
Thank u bro
Thanks for your help
Thanks too. :-)
Greetings Peter! Thank you for the videos. Do you have any videos on timing belt replacement for the 2.4 liter (2LT) engines?
Do you mean Toyota 2.4 ?
Peter Finn Yes Sir, the ones used on old Toyota Hilux and Land Cruisers.
I did this and the car is running smooth, except the temperature gauge goes all the way to hot. The car is not overheating though. I replaced thermostat but it is still overheating according to gauge. I put the heater on and air comes out warm.
Ok, you need a new radiator, radiator fan and water pump
The kit also included a new water pump, gaskets, seals and all,
Water pump was also installled during timing belt. Car was fine heat wise before I replaced the belt.
Make sure your coolant temperature sensor is working and bleed all of the air out of the cooling system. Check other videos on youtube on how to do these.
Darth Mal. Sounds like a bad temp sensor. That's a simple fix.

Good comment 👍
Did you get that puller for crankshaft pulley at AutoZone? 😀😂
Yes
Hello Friend...
I have a Toyota corona engine 3Sfe that broke the timing belt, in this case there is warping of the valves????....
Ok, can you rotate the engine pistons?
put a breaker bar on the crankshaft and wedge it in somewhere. Then crank the engine quickly and hey presto it will be loose and you can remove it by hand
Hi and thanks for your comment. :-)
I dont think breaker bar would be a good idea.
Socket with a long ratchet if you don't have a puller. The bolts on the pullers won't fit in the holes. Both manuals show this type of puller.
What happens if the crank is off time with the cam after that tho?

So what was the answer?

Why no new timing belt as long as you have it apart?
Where did you get the jaw pulley
Your belt has slack when you tightened the tensioner belt causing y=the belt the be out by 1 tooth. Look at your white painted timing marks on the belt.
I have a problem with my crankshaft
When it start it made a noise, is a TOYOTA CAMRY LUMIÈRE 1998
what is the sollution ??
Thank You. 😀👍
thanks sr
Thanks too Sir
Thanks🚙
Hi and Thanks for comment. :-) Best Regards Peter
Will the engine run if the belt is one tooth out?
Maybe No
Yes it will, but don't run it like this. Will get bad gas mileage and cause other costly repairs. Fix it as soon as you can.
What about all the oil all over the inside of the timing area?
Hi, there was some oil leaks in upper cylinder head cover gasket.
hes an dodgy mechanic
Not good to pull crank balancer like that with that puller, there are bolt holes in center to do it right without breaking rubber on balancer.
Thanks for info. :-)
You are using the right puller. There is no rubber on this balancer.
is this the same process for the 3s fe engine ???
Yes
thank you
Dangit ads ruin the video...2 minutes into it and it gets stopped
Really hate that
What is areare?
Petter what is the correct point of the crankshaft 0.5.10.15 ?? help me?
HI, I need to do new video
0 on the plastic cover.
0 TDC mechanical timing. 10 BTDC ignition timing
Wow... Peter you relly go through all the comments, dont you?
I try.
What year is the car ?
1991
Exelente
you missed by one tooth check the last few seconds and look at the marks
Noted 👍
Quel est la panne d'un moteur qui refuse de démarrer
Muchas gracias por el mensaje.
take easy when engine out of the car
Ok
Not enough space??? buddy u got the whole engine out in front of u lol.
Thanks ! Good comment. 😀👍
No no no no no!! IF YOUR MAKING A video to show PPL a Timing job show them the CORRECT WAY!!
Thanks for comment 👍😀
En español
👍😃
Terrible don’t give up your day job . Translation fuked up
Hi my Friend and Thanks for comment. 😀👍
No good
Thanks anyway
That's ok
I do that shit without marking. Only slowere ''mechanics'' do the marking shit
thank you for this ...
Thank You. :-)
