    For those who are not familiar with changing a timing belt it's a must to turn the engine by hand in order to check if there's any contact with valves before starting the engine. That's a recommendation for mechanics as well.

    I really like videos like this, no filler and to the point. Got everything I need for the TB change, Aisin TCT02 kit which includes the water pump assembly, oil pump seal and gasket, drive belts, all the tools etc. As I am increasingly working on our cars and my sons cars I also purchased an impact wrench, just a budget one but one that is highly rated and actually exceeds it's advertised torque unlike some of the well known brands that fall well short-more expensive isn't always better! Really looking forward to tackling this and preparation is always key, don't want to be rushing out to Autozone or wherever to source things I forgot I needed. Also don't want to complete the job then find I forgot to replace something or did something wrong. The car I'm working on is my 97 Celica GT convertible, 234,000 miles, runs great. Should get another 100,000 miles out of this car and I only paid $1200! Also replacing the right CV axle. Thankfully have other cars in our household so no rush to complete.

    Great 1 handed work and video in other hand. Nice trick of tightening the tensioner to hold the belt system in loose position until properly installed.

    • @bernardocisneros4402
      @bernardocisneros4402 10 місяців тому

      It works even better if you hand tighten bolt on tensioner pulley, then back it off about a half turn so pulley can move, then connect one end of spring to tensioner pulley and the other end to pin on engine block. Now push down on tensioner pulley as far as you can with one hand to stretch out the spring, hold it there and tighten bolt with wrench or socket. Tight enough so spring stays stretched out. Now put belt on like he did and when all the timing marks on camshaft and crankshaft are line up, loosen tensioner bolt and it will put tension on belt. Doing it this way, you won't struggle putting on the spring.

    Awesome! Just awesome. Straight to the point no bullshit. Only thing is after I did all this the car won’t start 😢 I believe it may be the timing is messed up at the crankshaft. You show a diagram with it having markings. Well this one does not,have them. Just on the plastic piece which sucks if it is off one has to put it all back together and then set it and then take apart again. The camshaft is set correctly as well.

    • @mecanicageneral615
      @mecanicageneral615 3 роки тому +2

      In that car is 2 1/2 hour job. It doesn't require any special tool to lock the camshaft or crankshaft or both like in a Ford Focus or Fiesta, for example. There's a myth around timing belts, that it's a super complicated job, but is not that hard, and that's why they charge a lot of money for that.

    • @David-zj3bp
      @David-zj3bp 3 роки тому

      Stealership is right! Some chain repair/tire shops also want to charge a lot & sell parts the car doesn't really need. Recently had $6K estimate from Big O' Tires. I'm just going to have my mechanics install the parts for a fraction of the cost. It's amazing how Angel fixes these cars single handedly! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

    Thank you for making that video. No new timing belt needed on the my 2001 5S-FE 2.2 but now I see how to do the other stuff. I had been told (& it was definitely true on both 1993 Corollas that I once had) that the camshaft seal ought to be replaced when doing the timing belt. And on this 2.2 engine that the oil pump seal under the timing belt should also be replaced when doing this. Still true?

    • @FixItAngel

      hi brother, yes it always recommended to replace the seals when doing the timing belt. But as for the oil pump. it depends on the mileage. if over 200k miles then it will be good to replace when replacing the timing belt. thanks for asking

      @@FixItAngel My 225k '99 5SFE engine is leaking from this area. Previous owner said they did a timing belt job. Now we have to repeat the same labor to get to the oil pump gasket, but it's also a good time to replace the camshaft seals, front main seal, etc.

    Maybe the have sprayed with / soaked the rubber parts with 303 Protective , water based . It's to protect rubber / plastic parts from drying out , due to heat and sun . UA-cam Channel , " Sweet Project Cars " goes into detail about using it .

    Kuya my Tita just gifted me a 1995 toyota camry 2.2l. I haven't torn it down yet but it looks similar. Would this instructional video be pertinent to my situation. Thank you po kuya!!✌🏽 also kuya i almost forgot. When you were removing crank bolt why didn't you just hit it with impact? Its not criticism kuya im just curious if maybe its NOT supposed to be hit with impact for possible breaking of bolt?. I know that your not supposed to impacted it ON I've seen them snap. Thanks Again ❤✌🏽

      Hi Lito, i could have used the impact but many DIY don't have impact. so i show the manual way. I have never experienced a broken crank bolt by removing it. So sometimes i will use the impact if it is very hard to remove. thanks for asking. stay safe and stay well. god bless

    Got an oil leak from the oil pump on my 01 camry. Everything I've been looking at says if you're going to replace the seals that you might as well do the timing belt and water pump while you're at it. Is there anything else exceptionally difficult to this if you're also replacing the oil pump?

    • @loden888
      @loden888 Рік тому +1

      Other videos do not replace the oil pump. It's such a simple design with one moving part, it's not going to fail unless the engine blows up. Go replace all the other seals while you're at it.
