    I wrote the LivestockEye report on that calf sale and things had certainly come back from the previous week. I always enjoy seeing your names on the catalogue.
    Don’t worry Genna, I had a dog very innocently break my nose too. The resetting process was much worse than the actual accident

    Thought I recognised Coalgate in the first instance. A few years ago I sold my 3 two and a half year old mixed dairy steers for $1500 each there. I have since been told that was a good season. Lucky me.

    nice video. In Idaho USA i contracted my 625lb steers for 1.85 per pound, which converts to $2077 NZD These calves will have 3 different vaccines 3 weeks before being sold. Sounds like we are similar to Australian prices. My 550 lb heifers $1.70 480 lb steers $2 and 450 lb heifers $1.85 I ship on the last day of this month.

    See your prices about exactly the same as here in SA. R37 ish per kg here now, not the 42 from a couple months back but still good compared to previous years. We'll also be selling our steers in the next little while, prices should go up here once the guys start harvesting corn... Great video. Thanks!

    We made the switch to Coalgate (1st calf sale) for our calves this year - no regrets. I find the canterbury markets are resonably efficient so choice of sale yards for us come down to shipping distance / costs and whether we wish to have a much longer day in Christchurch.

    I have no idea what the exchange rate is for the euro at the moment but you won't get the colour of that for Angus calves over here €2.50 a kilo would be the best you could expect.

  • @nsgkuaov
    @nsgkuaov 2 роки тому

    Just checked it out, a dollar is €0.6 so the equivalent would be c. €4.50 a kilo so about 950 a head and considering we are in spring and you are facing into winter I would think you didn't do to badly, 4 little Angus bullocks sold in Blessington mart on Thursday 275kg for €680 and they were carrying no flesh by comparison. The problem with them was they were next years cattle and with the price of fertiliser and meal people are nervous about things. Cattle over 500kg are a flying trade but they are this years cattle and never has that made such a difference as this spring.

    Mam are your cattle sooooo cheap.Here in Gippsland Australia your cattle would have made between $7.60 to $8.20 per kg.Friend brought weaners steers for $2200 weighing 280 kg.Cattle have to be in the yards over 8 hours to be weighted.Heifers are making as much as steers,as breeder cattle in massive demand. Great video for me to see prices.

    • @kiwifarmernz

      @@kiwifarmernz Yes big shortage still of cattle, but my friend had some 3yr old bullocks weighing 420 to 440 over the hooks and averaged just on $3700 ,so even prime cattle are selling well.Alot of money tied up in cattle. Same here people prefer Angus.Keep the great videos going,really enjoy them.Keeps me in contact with home,although I came from Matamata.

    Good video. As an Aussie farmer I'm just curious as to why 230kg weaners are making about $800 to $900 over there when we're paying up to $2,000/hd for them here. I realize the feedlots are under pinning things here but there has to be more to it.

    • @kiwifarmernz
      @kiwifarmernz  2 роки тому

      Hi David. Good question. I feel like there are a couple of buyers underpinning the price here and a lot of the south island cattle will end up in a feed lot here. I will have to ask around to get a better answer.

      @@kiwifarmernz Thanks for your reply. I should have added that restockers have also pushed the price of weaners up to record price's as well. $6 to $8 a live weight kilo is now standard. I just assumed you blokes were getting the same money we are. Cheers

    Why does it take so many auctioneers to see the cattle??

    • @kiwifarmernz
      @kiwifarmernz  2 роки тому +1

      There is one who is calling the auction, 2 looking out for bids, one operating the camera for online bidding and the others just want to stand above the commoners in the yards. (joking on that last one)

    • @garethbryson
      @garethbryson 2 роки тому

      Here in Ireland there is only 1 auctioneer on at a time selling and looking for bids with an assistant doing the administration. I wouldn't want to be paying the auctioneers fees needed to cover all the others wages too. 🤣

    • @kiwifarmernz

      Our breeding cows are around 600 kg. This is good for us as they are not too big to move around the steep hills. Our aim to have an average weaning weight of 250kg.
