AVAA. I think this song dropped at the perfect time, as Lamelo is currently having a career year and producing some of the most eye-popping highlights I’ve seen in recent years, and Lonzo is returning after a very long stint with injury. The Ball family hasn’t been this hot since 2017.
The hook is catchy sometimes thats all you need with these Tik Tok Rhymes. Also It gave us X generation nostalgia from the time we were listening to Nelly and the Hot Boys. And the Gen V getting some retro culture from a new song. This why you see all this early 2000k styles coming backandd they are starting to wear baggy clothes again. Every 20-25 years this seems to happen in Rap culture.
Interesting! i’m midwest and i’ve only heard tweaker used as a derogatory word for drug addicts here, but if you’re tweaking it’s usually used to say you’re acting crazy or weird
The “gatekeepers” are none existent in today’s current age. Whether be old heads, the current Kendrick Lamar centered hip hop media, or regular hip hop listeners. If artist like Playboi Carti, Yeat, and even LiAngelo easily get pass the barrier needed to be successful in hip hop then gate keeping is not gonna work.
AVAA Skye ! Only thing I will push back on is the idea Gelo's basketball career was mismanaged. He only played in Lithuania after him and 3 other players were dismissed from UCLA (not the whole team). After the overseas stint it was pretty consensus with scouts at the time that Gelo just didn't have what it took to make the league. He is shorter than both his brothers and didn't have the ball handling and passing feel that they do to play guard. Got a few cracks at the G league but ended up dropping after being apart of a g league practice squad. Before any of the rap stuff him and Lonzo were on a podcast and Lonzo kept it real with him that he should reel back his expectations about being in the league.
This song reminds me of the hype from Million dollar baby last summer. People really enjoy the "older" aesthetic of that song. It seems to be similar to how people love something that refers to an older style.
it's funny because I think that older aesthetic suggest "effort" that newer songs fail to conjure - this will get more pronounced with AI. Anything that sounds like it was made before 2020 carries an air of "realness"
@theheeze i understand what you're getting at here, but i don't necessarily agree. They all have general templates to work with. You could go dance hall, boosie or webbie type beats, etc. Most of the time, there are already artists that exist in this area. They just either aren't in the mainstream, or a mainstream artist plays with it, then adopts another style. There's too much music available to convince me that everyone sounds the same or "current."
prof skye PLEASEEEEE review 2hollis! any project of his it doesnt really matter which one. i do think you would really love it; the music is very amazing and different. i’m not gonna say to much bc i think 2hollis’ music needs to be experienced rather than explained but yeah. it would mean the would if you would review him:)
industry plant. literally every artists that has popped up in the last year in the mainstream besides like Doechii and Chapelle Roan have all been industry plants. its very tiring
Great song, the chorus has a resemblance to sides of mid 2000s rap like Nelly ,Lil Boosie,Webbie etc while the verses are very much in the modern trap side of things.
AVAA, this acronym has lost meaning to me so i feel the need to still say awesome video even tho i already did! I had a question for you professor, and this video seems like an appropriate time to ask it. in a previous video you had mentioned that more than music, you really enjoyed people talking about things at the highest level, and talked about liking sports commentators as a part of that. I wasn't a sports person before, but recently I've fallen in love with basketball, and i also love listening to people that know way more than me talking about things I love, so I'm looking for some great basketball podcasts/commentators that you would recommend if you have any! I've looked around and have really enjoyed The Dunker's Spot with Nekias Duncan and the Thinking Basketball Podcast, what other creators would you recommend? thanks in advance for the video and the help :)
Is it possible to read too deep into one line? Is it maybe just okay but because of all the inexplicable elements around it that bring it into sharp relief-- making it stand out as more than just an okay line. A good line, sure.
He is young privilege black "boy" who disappointed his helicopter dad so we are able tolerate him findkng himself. It is no different than Venus&Serena and Tiger Wood parents for better or worse. I noticed the cap...started from thr bottom was wild. He didnt have a plan B so he has to find his identity.
I think there is a dearth of mainstream "masculine" focused pop music. Maybe because pop is viewed more negatively by young men or because most male pop singers focus their music toward a feminine audience?
@@TheUnluckyConqueror3699 Current day I think you have to look international. Pop Rock is dead in America but seems to be going strong in Japan. The spanish speaking world has reggaeton and other genres that feel more pop to me as an American listener.
Shitting on Drake for saying Out like a light or making Way too sexy is so tired, acting like he didn’t make bangers like It’s Up and Jimmy Cooks / Wants and Needs this decade too. Drake is the best at making pop rap bangers, let’s be serious

I just realized you never did a video on lucki. You NEED to check him out because he is one of the most unique artists over the last few years.
Only the hooks great it gives Nelly vibes, the rest is hard to listen to.

Great hooks can save songs. And can make us ignore the many issues at times. And I am ok with that sometimes.
