How to Smooth Anime Face Shadow in Unity URP Without Editing Face Normal

  • One mistake in 11:55, I said "Set Anti-Aliasing to 8x". It should be "Set Anti-Aliasing to SMAA".
    Notice that the shadow texture in this video can be customized which means you can generate the texture with the face shadow you want. I will introduce how to do that in future videos!

    Very nice video ! This would be very cool If you can show us the same method but on Unreal Engine because I don't think Unreal use the same system as Unity

    good information friend, I have 2 questions this method can be done with any model of mmd? and another question can this method be done only in unity or can it also be done in blender? I want to make lightmap, and shadowmap and metamap but it looks complex

    Hello! Thanks for the tutorial! I have a question, I would like the shadow to appear at a more open angle, I mean, if I turn the directional light to the left 45 degrees I get full shadow but instead of that I would like to have the full shadow at 120 degrees for example.
    What should I do to be able to do that?

      you could always make your own sdf texture to fit your needs better

    I get an error: Shader error in 'Shader Graphs/Master': undeclared identifier 'TransformWorldToShadowCoord' at Assets/CustomLighting.hlsl(24) (on d3d11)
    Does anyone know how to solve it?

    Is there any way to expand the angle limit from 90 to 135? I’ve tried configuring this but I don’t know how to change the math without getting inconsistent results or breaking everything, the problem is that the light falls off of the face quicker than the body and looks strange when at the angle limit, thanks for the tutorial btw !

    Is it better to translate the vertex group first? You can easily do this by changing them in pmd

    Doesn't this method mean, that you'd need to create a shadow texture for every part of the mesh? Hair, Body, Clothes, Face etc.
