    Mini Review:
Hey everyone! Since the Wooting 80HE is finally in people's hands, I thought it would be helpful to showcase a sound test of some of the most popular Hall Effect switches so you can find the perfect match for your preferred sound and feel!
In this video, we’ll be testing:
    Lekker Switches (V2)
    Black Knight Switches
    TTC King of Magnetic Switch
OG Jades, Jade Pros, & Jade Max
    Geon RAW HE
    Stem Wobble Comparison:
The V2 Lekker switches have tighter tolerances but still a bit wobbly in my opinion.
Black Knights have a box stem but are also somewhat wobbly.
The TTCs have almost no horizontal wobble, but vertical wobble is similar to the Lekkers and Black Knights.
OG Jades show almost no vertical wobble and a bit of horizontal wobble.
Jade Pros have a small amount of both horizontal and vertical wobble.
Jade Max has almost no vertical wobble and just a tiny bit of horizontal wobble.
The Geon RAW HE overall has the least stem wobble, with a bit of vertical but almost no horizontal wobble.
    RGB Compatibility:
When it comes to handling RGB in both South and North-facing directions, the Jade Max stands out as the clear winner - the installation direction doesn't seem to matter much.
    Factory Lube Comparison:
Lekker Switches: Rails are lubed, and there’s a small amount of lube at the bottom of the spring.
Black Knights: Only the rails are lubed, with the spring appearing dry.
TTC Magnetos: Only the bottom of the spring is lubed, and the rest is completely dry.
OG Jade: Rails are lubed, but the spring is dry.
Jade Pros & Jade Max: Both are fully lubed at every contact point (all around the Stem + Rails) including the stem pole.
Geon RAW HE: A bit of lube on the rails, with most on the stem pole.
    My Personal Favorites:
I really enjoy the Jade Pros and Geon RAWs, but I also appreciate the deeper clack of the Jade Max. The Black Knight switches and Lekkers feel good, but they tend to have a “dead” sound typical of Hall Effect switches, however if you don't care about sound these will be totally fine. As for the TTC Magnetos, I’d rank them in the middle-they feel better than the Lekkers and Black Knights, but the plasticky sound isn’t for me.
Drop a comment if you have any questions, and enjoy the sound test!

I think the sound test you are making with the LCT 140 air could be improved if you don't have the mic on the same table as the keyboard. At least to me it sounds like the mic is picking up the vibrations from the table when you type something. But still a great comparison :)

Geon Raw and Jade Pro are a very similar sound profile and I would say they are both my favorites. Which did you end up sticking to?
A shame about the Maxes not being in the same category as the jade pros though cause the RBG they produce is great.

My first batch of GEON Raws were the 40g ones, and they sounded great but were too light. So I got the 60g ones instead thinking it'd be closest to the feel of the Zakus, which I was on for the longest time. But now I feel like 50g is the sweet spot LOL. Unfortunately for me, that's the exact one that's sold out at the moment.

I think the excitement around their release came from being the first to create a decent-sounding HE switch after the original Jades. But with the new Jade Pros and Max versions, I feel like the hype might start to fade a bit. Thanks for watching!

@@leoclacks Sadly it's another case of simps creating fomo that this hobby runs on. So much so that apparently Gateron are bad at what they do, and Geon is some all-conquering keyboard god. LOL. *I do like his work fwiw

  • @Aerobrake

in my personal experiemce I would not recommend anyone buy the jade maxes. they use a pc stem which is known to have problem with friction even when lubed. it feels like its stepping and you don't have full control over them defeating the purpose of magnetic switches. additionally they stick more to a keycap than to the switch plate which is very concerning and may damage ABS keycaps.
I would suggest the Geonworks Raw HE for best performance and sound per dollar with many weight choices and the tightest tolerances and least stem wobble while having the least or 2nd least amont of friction I have ever felt in a switch in my life (this is based on my own experience with Lekker L60, L60v2, jade, jade maxes and Raw HE). I like the deeper sound profile and aesthetic of the switch but it just doesnt feel good in use.

    • @Aerobrake
      @Aerobrake День тому +2

to be specific the jade maxes work fine only when pressing directly down. slightly off axis and you will feel stepping abd some amount of friction, not even lube could fix it.

@@Aerobrake i heard that issue a few times now, not sure if it’s a qc thing but i haven’t ran into it at all (luckily) :D

"they stick more to a keycap than to the switch plate which is very concerning and may damage ABS keycaps." How would that damage the keycaps or be concerning at all? different plates use different tolerances, for example some designers use 19.05mm, some use just 19mm. Additionally, larger stem tolerances are beneficial as with low friction thermoplastics I have had many problems with keycaps falling off due to a lack of connection between the stem and switch
How is pc known to have a problem with friction, the aqua kings are a full pc switch and are held in a very high regard to be extremely smooth. If the switch has problems with scratchiness, that is the fault of a poor choice of two thermoplastics, and has nothing to do with pc on it's own.
Finally, what the fuck does the "performance" of a switch even begin to mean, they all do the same thing, none of them do it better than others. Some might be more comfortable, or more pleasurable to use for a given individual, but that doesn't even begin to mean that it has a "better performance"
