- I finished my quilted silk Brunswick jacket! This week, I added the hood, sleeves, and all the finishing of my Brunswick, and I am very happy with how it came out. And I even finished it in time for some snow!
Check out the high-res photos of the original Brunswick from the National Museum of Denmark here: samlinger.natm...

There is nothing about this dress that I do not love. The colour! The shape! The belt in the back! The sleeves! The HOOD! I just love it all.
Thank you!
Historically inspired/adequate does not have to equal historically accurate copy. You live in this era and yours is just as amazing. You did a great job.
Museum folks are AWESOME. So are librarians :D Your Brunswick is stunning!!
Thank you! And yep, they are!
@@twinnish oh true! Thanks for reminding me!
I really appreciate the diary style you do for these videos. It is very helpful as a less skilled sewist to see you work through your challenges instead of give up. I admire how open you are about what goes wrong and how you fixed it.
Wow! What gorgeous quilting on the museum piece. I don't know how I missed that before.
Dora is delightful. Reminds me of a friend's cat that loved pins and learnt to take them out of fabric and run lol. We'd stop for coffee and come back to find we hadn't shut the door properly and all our pinned items were no longer as we had left them. Never found the majority of pins either. You have been warned. Once those pins are uncomfortable Dora may well learn a new trick.
Absolutely stunning…truly beautiful! You are amazing Rebecca. Admire your perseverance on this project. Congratulations also on surpassing 30k subscribers!
Thank you!
Milady looks like she just stepped out of her carriage to take a quick stroll about the garden, before heading inside her manor house. It was good to be home after spending some time in the city. She gracefully climbed the stairs, greeting her household as she went. Once inside, she stood, warming herself by the fire, and issuing orders to her butler. The holidays drew nearer and nearer and she had a party organize. She dismissed him, and ringing for her lady's maid, she had her draw her a bath. Looking forward to relaxing and soaking away the cares and frustrations of the day, she followed her maid upstairs to her boudoir...
Happy holidays, Lady Rebecca!! Your Brunswick is gorgeous!! Sorry about the grief it gave you, but I think it was worth it after seeing the end result!! (And you are sooo LUCKY you got snow!! I feel like all my snow went on a trip Buffalo and stayed there. 😉)
Thank you! The snow had only stuck around because it turned to ice, but I'm glad it stayed for pictures! 😉
@@LadyRebeccaFashions You're welcome! At least you got snow! It made for a great end piece to your video! Lion was too cute playing with you! ❤
This project might have caused you a lot of grief but it really turned out beautifully. Especially the ruffles and sleeves. Very well done!
I tried to find a comment about this, but there are just too many comments. For the circular cartridge pleated portion of the hood that leaves a hole, I think you can close the hole by inserting a gathering stitch that takes just the very tips of the outside pleats, taking up literally only the single outermost layer of the fabric (no batting, no lining or extra layer). The issue seemed to cause you a ton of frustration, so I hoped to be able to help for future projects. My apologies that I do not use instagram and for my late commentary. Your brunswick turned out gorgeous! The silhouette and color are extremely flattering to you. Thanks so much for plugging away at it and sharing with us all of the trials and tribulations involved in the making.
So beautiful Rebecca. You make very beautiful garments. STOP second guessing yourself, you’re doing beautifully. Love your channel by the way.
Oh this is beautiful! I love the deep red colour. The sleeve ruffles totally make this piece go from austere to delightful.
And yes I yelled at the screen "no it won't work, no, no " when you were talking about the sleeve ruffles.
It looked stunning with the snow and so very cozy. Absolutely love that shot red colour. Have to admit I had a good laugh at your hood mobius stripe siutation. Don't you love it when things turn out so weirdly and you have no idea how you got there. Plus your tossing of the ruffle because you were just over it was so very relatable. Glad your stuck with it through all the ups and downs on this project, the end result was so worth it.
I was going to suggest you covered a big button and sew it into the hood where the pleating left a hole. Hope you have a great new year xx
Instead of chasing the bias tape with the iron what we usually do is put the iron down and pull the tape out of the bias tape maker and the iron so that way it automatically gets ironed as it's pulled if that makes sense.
This coat is absolutely scrumptious! Love everything about it!
Beautiful and beautiful and beautiful
The red is perfect on you! Well crafted!
❤ I love this combo…thank you for always being such a calming positive person. It helps me so much more than you know. You make me smile even when I’m crying.
Aww, thank you! *Hugs to you!*
Everything you make is stunning, but there is just something extra lovely about this project.
Oh my GOODNESS!! At 34:00… you’ve got yourself a “Mobius Strip” situation going on 😮
…and it turned out sooo lovely!! Your hood frames your face perfectly!!!!!
Those sleeve ruffles!! I hate it when my brain breaks. I love the finished garment.
Dora on the book-hanger-fabric-pin combo is the most cat supuuuuurrrrrvisory move ever. I think it’s a rule in their management manual. I wish the comments allowed photos because one of my favorites is my Ozzy sound asleep, happy as a little clam, on what was probably 50 pins on a piece that required very intricate construction, hence the large number of pins. Like you, I asked him, “How is that even comfortable?” And, like Dora, he didn’t answer. So I guess the mystery continues.
Cats are so strange!
I never saw anything as beautiful 😊
I think this turned out absolutely lovely! The snow really shows off the fabric and makes you look ethereal. Well done! This is probably one of my favorite creations of yours now :)
Thank you!
Before you said the lower sleeves are always sewn in, I guessed that they would be tied to the under part of the upper sleeve. Thanks for the video. You and the Brunswick look simply beautiful.
You look absolutely gorgeous! That Brunswick turned out so well.
Thank you!
This turned out GORGEOUS! Can't believe I'm just now watching this! Love the photo shoot snow ❤
Lovely outfit! It looked like so much fun to wear! I love the color. Twitching the hood into place is pure flirtation. ❤
That just turned out so beautifully and SNOW!
Beautiful, beautiful dress!!! I wish we still dressed like this! I mean, we can, but we just have to make everything ourselves 🤦🏻♀️
Me: has never heard of a Brunswick except New Brunswick, Canada, and now, after watching this video, must have one…
My absolute favourite
I'm glad you're doing the hood lining in silk...cotton really zaps the hair.
What a beautiful outfit! Like a festive mix of Red Riding Hood and Cinderella
It looks so beautiful! Amazing job!
Thanks!
This is so beautiful, the colour and silhouette and the hood, just magical!
The entire outfit is gorgeous! I love the color and shine of the fabric. You look beautiful in the dress. All of the work on the hood ended in a perfect framing of your face. The ruffles just right. Congratulations !!!
Thank you!
Some projects fight you every step of the way. This one was worth it! Add on a little modesty strip behind the front panel. It’ll be warmer anyway with that gap filled.
So happy you were able to get this done in time for Christmas.
You look like a super-fashionable Georgian (or thereabouts) lady! Love the coat! Gurl, I get those Broken Brain moments too! Snacks can fix’em!
Nice job! Way to persevere through the frustration, it was well worth it because you have a garment you can be proud of. Your example of pushing through gives courage for the rest of us to pursue our daunting projects.
I'm sorry that it fought you so much, but I'm so glad you stuck with it! This historical hoody is gorgeous!
It turned out lovely. The colour is stunning on you.
Love love love it! So glad you pulled it together. Pure elegance! ❤
Wow amazing gown 🎉the colour is fabulous
I looks lovely Rebecca, and you look awesome in the cranberry color
It turned out lovely. Beautiful color on you.
You look absolutely beautiful. Congratulations on a job fabulously done. And snow just in time as well.
Thank you!
It is stunning! You should be very, very pleased.
Wonderful garment, congratulations on a job well done
I want that as a regular coat for winter 😍 🧥
That color looks amazing on you.
So pretty! And just perfect for the weather! Love it!
It turnes out beautiful 😍
This is just gorgeous! If you have any scraps of the quilted silk, you could make a muff! I think that would be so cool(or warm!)
Oh my gosh, your binding helped me to figure out how I'm going to address the hem on my winter coat. Thank you so much.
That turned out so gorgeous and I'm jealous
Stays straps aren't supposed to meet the body of the front. My Kinsale cloak hood is literally pleated.
Your Brunswick is beautiful!
Stunning indeed
😻😻It looks awesome. I love the shine of the quilted silk 😻 beautiful
Holy Smokes, that is soo pretty! The color is beautiful and i love the sleeves!
Thanks!
It looks amazing 🤩 so cosy cute and elegant at the same time! Good for you for persevering this aggravating project! I wonder how a more modern, non corseted version would look... humm...
Beautiful ❤
You commented on the photo shoot day weather just as I was thinking the same thing. You must have friends in high places.
This is so gorgeous! I love the material, the color, and the style.
Love-love-love it! It looks so cozy, and the color is amazing!
You are such a talent! Love the color of this too. I wish everything great for you now & in the New Year BUT, SNOW is not one... if you get snow, I get snow & I'm over it. lol
Fraychek!!!! Get some!
A wonderful creation. Happy Christmas xxxxxxxx
This turned out so cool!!!!
My goodness, this is beyond gorgeous! The fit is perfect and the fabric is stunning! Well done 👍
Thank you!
wow that turned out so beatiful!
You did a beautiful job.
Because of the age and wear of the Brunswick coat you should see if the sleeves have wrinkles in the back of the arm to answer your fitting questions.
Omg how cool!🙌🙌 i am from Denmark and i’m living in Copenhagen😀 when you said “National Museum of Denmark” i was like… “What” … haha. it says “Tilføj placering” down in the bottom right corner. That means“add placement” merry Christmas to you!
Outfit looks fabulous Rebecca and by the look of the original, I’d say it was hand quilted. The pattern down the front is called cable quilting …🥰🇦🇺
So gorgeous!
Wow. That is gorgeous. That res is perfect. I want one so badly. But if you had that many issues then I definitely need a pattern with clear instructions.
Love this. I love the belt! This is so awesome and the material is sublime!!
Gorgeous!
I am so happy for you! The snow, the dress, the color! I love history coming to life! It snowed for your photo shoot! Yay! I think I need to learn how to make stays so I can get that same silhouette. I wasn't sure if I would ever want to make that jacket after seeing how much frustration you went through, but seeing the end product kinda makes my possible frustration with my own project seem worth it if I can end up with something that gorgeous! Likely not out of silk, sigh, but out of a beautiful quilted fabric.
Thank you! And as much as stays are such a pain to make, I'm sure you will be able to figure it out!
Lovely
I love it so much
Stunning!!
Excellent!! sooo Christmas-ey!!
This is just gorgeous, well done again.
Very nice work...
Well, I thihnk it was worth all the issues you had to work through to finish it. The finished outfit has gorgeous visual impact
Thank you!
That looks so dramatic and also cozy! Poor Dora, you keep stealing her beds. And Lion was so excited about the snow!
I can so relate to the sleeve ruffle situation: I sew all kinds of garments but my head can't figure out how to even make one of these loop scarfs 😅
December 16, 2023 is the 250th anniversary of the Boston Tea Party (Dec. 16, 1773)
An excuse to wear your Brunswick
You look like a Holiday Barbie! And off course Little Red Riding Hood and Belle vibes
I had no idea hoods were gathered with a hole in them. Neat. Love the color and shine on this piece.
Dora for president!
It is just the prettiest! The quilted silk shimmers and the shape is so flattering!
YOU REALLY ARE AMAZING I HAVE CHANGED HOW I SEW FOR THE BETTER BECAUSE OF YOU🥰🥰💄💄👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑💄💄
Aww, thank you so much!
You and the Brunswick look amazing! So beautiful and I love the color :)
Thank you!
Very nice, you look gorgeous in the Brunswick!
Thanks!
Even though it looked like a pain to make, this dress turned out AMAZING 🤩 Great job on it. I love it. Have a great New Years!
Thank you! Happy new year!
