I scratch built a Zodiac 601XL-B years ago and I also saved all the rivet stems. I ended up with almost 3 full mushroom containers. I also use mushroom containers for my rivets. Seeing you using them brings back happy memories.
Wow wow wow... you and I are so similar! Love this and other videos you’ve compiled Mark. I’m brand new to your channel and you’ve inspired me to build like no other! I’ve talked with Jonathon Fay and many others thus far. Your 10 tips to build a kit plane has also convinced my wife who was never going to support such an extravagance. I look forward to a day when I can meet you after COVID in my fresh build of a 750 Cruzer version. Jan and Alissa have sold me on their Viking 130 platform. I’m semi retired now at 63, have an impressive recent built shop with hoist and thousands invested in tools. I have 95% of your tool line up already, just need a pneumatic rivet gun and clecos hahaha. I was also impressed with your attention to detail and meticulous work and organization!
Thanks for the videos ! I retired and building a cabin in TN and as soon as I finish up the cabin probably first on next year I am looking to start a Zenith build project. I have a 900’ field for a runway so I’m looking at the 750 STOL or 750 Cruiser. The Cruiser would serve my flying mission the best but I like the idea of using my field to hanger the plane. So it’s speed or roll. Getting really expired watching your videos and learning a lot.
So nice to see you pulling rivets with only one cycle of the rivet gun! It was funny to watch you use the scotchbrite wheel on a piece probably too long for that application 😂. I thought I only did that! Ya gotta love the Wheel!
Awesome videos!! They are REALLY helping me with my own 750 stol project. I don't have a Super Duty but see that much of what you have done is much the same. I have a question though. I can't find what most all of the bolts are torqued at? They have a some 3/16 bolts on the tail and wings but I can't find anything as for torque specs. Are you just tightening most of them down temporarily or are you torquing them to spec right away? And what is the spec? Thanks a lot!!
Where you were having the issue with the front rib at the wing root anchor, couldn't you have used solid rivets as it looks like you could have gotten a bucking bar in there? Does the factory give you the option of replacing any of the pop rivets with solid rivets? Thanks for the video.
Really enjoy your videos on this build. Is there a way you can at the end of the videos you can tell us how long it took you to build the portion shown in the video? Thank you.
They have those scotch brite wheels from your Dremel... Like 1" disks... Makes edge deburring large skins and large pieces...like the rear spar... Much easier. It will cause a groove in the disk of course but it frankly helps round out both sides at the same time so I prefer the groove when deburring. 😁
I'll have to go find one for the Dremel. I have a bunch of different size wheels for the air grinder, but it's always a hassle to unwind the air hose and pump up the compressor. A little wheel for the Dremel would be quick and easy!
@@KitplaneEnthusiast btw - I just use the 1/8" screw-tip mandrel for the dremel and a small 1/2" diameter all-metal cutting wheel to hold the disk tight. Works great for deburring where there isnt a lot of pressure applied to the disk. Anyway, blue skies and happy building
Hooray, the new rivet gun arrived, I see. And it works with a single stroke, as it should. Over the entire build, that's probably worth at least a day or two compared to the two-stroke (pun intended) gun, right?
Did you have to torque those 4 bolts you removed, to get that wing tip on, to a specific torque value and was that specified on the drawings / assembly steps giving you a hint that they needed to be removed in order to get that assembly to go together correctly?
I bought a new gun when my other one broke. But with the new gun, I learned that there's in internal adjustment. I never knew there was an adjustment that could be made on the other gun. That's what happens when you pull it out of the box and throw the instructions away LOL!
Hey Mark ! Have you used tutorials or videos on any of your previous builds? It not I hope you're aware of how incredibly helpful and informative following along with your build is! Realizing how much effort goes into editing etc., Just wanted to say thanks! Blue Skies!
Thanks for the feedback-glad the videos are helpful. Your'e right it takes a lot of time to film and edit. I'd be flying this airplane already if I wasn't filming LOL!
Looking good Mark! Is it just me or is the SD going together faster than the cruzer? Maybe with that experience it is. I look forward to all your videos each week, your biggest local fan......lol, Greg.
@@KitplaneEnthusiast No kidding. I'd love to build an airplane. But if I ask my wife, she will say "You already have an airplane! What do you need another one for?"
he bought an airplane now he can't heat his hanger, doe's do pretty good work though notice he drives a explorer so would like to see him mount a 2.3 ecoboost power plant in aircraft

AWESOME work.... thanks for sharing

WoooHoo. Another video to enjoy. Always interesting to watch and anticipate the finished product.
You are right, deburring parts is simple a good shop practice and a professional attitude. Your project is looking great.

Excellent video,
These tip and hints are going to be very useful !!

The new one works so nice!
Noticed the same. One trigger pull, one rivet done! Smoothly.
Thanks a lot sir for all the tips u share with us keep going

Another thing: In additions to priming the surfaces that meet, do plan to fog the cavities at some point?
I noticed the scrape on your knuckle. That's great! Now, you're truly "blood brothers" with your build! LOL!
What fuel you use for the UL350 ? Thanks
93 Octane or AvGas
Question: By shortening that Rib that was long, are you creating a problem at the front where the skins meet where it is too short?
No. The rib is not changing position at all.
It looks like your rivets are pulling in one trigger squeeze. Did you change guns or find away to adjust your gun that was requiring two pulls?
I bought a new gun when my other one broke. But with the new gun, I learned that there's in internal adjustment. I never knew there was an adjustment that could be made on the other gun. That's what happens when you pull it out of the box and throw the instructions away LOL!
What’s the little tag riveted to the spar? You will not be able to see it once closed up I ponder.
It is an information tag, Date of production so it could be referenced if needed
Mark, does it matter from which side you pull the rivets? Do they All have to be going the same direction? When would you use a washer with the rivet?
Generally the shop head is on the side of the thicker material. Not always possible though.

I'd probably say slower, only because at this point in the Cruzer build I wasn't filming anything.
I'm currently building a Ceder strip canoe
Awesome! It's so much more rewarded to get out and build something than to sit on a couch and watch TV!

I would like to see each section completed in 1 video instead of breaking it up into multiple short videos.
File...phewt, i would have had an angle grinder throwing sparks all over the shop....hmmmmm....maybe I should stay with production aircraft.
