    Never have I listened to a song that brings me so much conviction. I am that liar and I cry alone wishing to find some sort of solace for my broken soul. My life has crumbled due to my lies. Lies that have crushed the ones I love the most time and time again. Often the reality I try so hard to escape is depicted so well by Mumford's beautifully crafted lyrics and soundscape.

      @reints74 9 років тому +5

      *****
      Sadly, I don't hear one lick of Mumford's soul on this album. It's dead. Why? Managers & producers capitalized on their success & Taylor Swifted their sound in the name of increased revenue.
      Long story short: they dumbed down their music to appeal to idiots.

    • @reints74
      @reints74 9 років тому +2

      ***** Sure doesn't. Certain bands just sound like they do because it's natural. I listen to everything from Dylan to Tool & they all share a common thread: Lyrics & melodies that perfectly capture what the writer was experiencing at the moment of writing the song. That's soul.
      Sadly, this album just doesn't have it for me. I know it's a phase that'll go away quickly. Listen to all the stuff Mumford does with other artists in their free time. That's their best stuff.
      Same with the Avett Brothers. Albums are ok, live, one-take jam sessions are amazing.

    • @reints74
      @reints74 9 років тому

      ***** I'm sure they do capture it. That's why it made it to the album. There just wasn't anything magical. Every band has an album or two that just blow the other ones away. Doesn't mean they suck. Just means the magic left the room for awhile. I'll always be a Mumford fan. Not crazy about every song, though.
      Can't say I like every song Petty, Dylan, Cash, Avett, Taylor, Hay, Tool, G&R, Dead Kennedys, Nirvana, etc wrote either. But the ones that I do are in my bones.

    This is the song that was played when Lance Armstrong finally admitted he bent the truth a little bit.
    It is the song that convinced him to tell the world that he was indeed a liar.
    He is a big fan of the band and has often been seen at their concerts.
    He just doesn't get invited to the after show parties anymore.
    When he tries to get in, the band now tell him to 'Get on his bike'.

    Dedicated to the woman I once loved with my entire heart and soul. Who I respected and was always there for. Whom I gave my very BEST to. And that best was not good enough.
    Because she turned out to be married and living a 2nd life and betrayed my love and my trust and my every waking moment which I always gave to her. To always be there for her and love and support her. She was my "Angel". But never in my wildest dreams did I suspect she was something else. Those perfect sweet blue eyes looking into mine when we made love. That head on my chest when I was being my best.. All LIES.
    She lied to me about absolutely everything. Everything that was ever important and sacred between us. Not even leaving me with a single sweet memory. Never saying sorry and leaving me with no answers or closure. Destroyed the person I was. And all I ever did was love her and all I ever wanted was to be loved by her. My angel - married. And everything we ever shared were all lies....... Everything.
    "Liar" - Mumford and Sons
    I know that things are broken
    And though there’s too many words left unsaid
    You say you have spoken
    Like the coward I am I hang my head
    You lie careless your head on my chest
    And don’t even look at me looking my best
    And all these things I can’t describe
    You would rather I didn’t try
    But please don’t cry, you liar
    Oh please don’t cry, you liar
    Oh please don’t cry, you liar
    Oh please don’t cry, you liar
    Oh please don’t cry, you liar
    Oh please don't cry, you liar
    And you lean in for your last kiss
    Who in this world could ask me to resist

      It's from an EP released before "Sigh No More", before that, they used to release small EP's containing songs like "Liar", "Sister", "Feel the Tide" etc. But also songs like "Little Lion Man" and others that were later re-released for the full albums "Sigh No More" and "Babel"

      This and a bunch of other songs were on the B side of Sigh No More I believe. They weren't actually ever put on iTunes or anything unfortunately.

    They put into words and melody my soul's anguish in disappointment. Just knowing that someone else understands true sorrow at the loss of something that was so real and seemingly immortal helped me to move forward. Thank you Mumford and Sons. Thank you.

    I remember when Mumford and Sons wasn't so popular.... I'm very glad that they haven't changed their style or what they sing about. They're one of the only 'mainstream' bands that I absolutely adore.

    Time after time I find myself coming back to this song. I am a writer, mind you, who suffers from dyslexia. Yet I continue on writing no matter what. I used to write a story to this song and after a while it became the theme song of two of the main characters. Never have I thought I would be put in a situation where I've been lied to. Twice.
    Mumford & Sons music also saved me from becoming an alcoholic. I would put on every song and forget to drink because I'd be crying too much...

    I agree mate, I think it is because they're mainstream by accident, not choice.
    So many bands give into whats popular and what sells rather than doing what they want and sticking to it.
    Best thing to happen to music in ages.
