  • WH-1000XM3 Right Side Repair Description:
A detailed repair video on how to tear down and repair your Sony WH-1000XM3 Headphones. This video specifically shows the repair of the right slider, but you can follow along to repair any component on the right side of the headphones.
    Soldering diagram (RIGHT): ibb.co/rw4TfWN
    Soldering diagram (LEFT): ibb.co/F3pfSYH
Quite a few people have asked about the battery repair/replacement, so I'm attaching a link to a UA-cam walkthrough for that process as well: • Sony WH-1000XM3 Batter...
Please comment below with any questions you may have!
I have lots of replacement parts for these headphones on my eBay store. Please use the following link if you need some parts :)
    www.ebay.com/i...
In the worst case scenario that your headphones are damaged beyond repair (R.I.P.) I'd highly recommend upgrading to the WH-1000XM4 model.
The price different between the XM4 and XM3s is much smaller than I'd expect and usually Amazon is running some sort of fantastic deal :)
Check out the listing here: amzn.to/3ikSlLv
Also, I'm including links to the soldering station and precision screwdriver set I used in this repair that I've had for YEARS and use to fix everything.
Check them out on Amazon here:

    Precision Screwdriver Set: amzn.to/3q0BlOI

I pried them up at the sides first, then the middle a bit. knowing that the tabs exist helped. there was just enough space to check and run the wires through.

I was surprised that Jon went straight from removing the battery to unsoldering everything. I tried re-inserting the battery and the phones (XM-2) worked. They had been completely unresponsive - the only sign of life was the charging light illuminating when a power source was connected. Soft and hard resets failed to change things. Looks like the processsor was in a bad 'state' that only a power cycle could fix. I'm grateful for the video - gave me confidence getting into the phones.

Hello on the Right and Left when you swivel to remove the screws if you look on the opposite ledge where the Sony name is you will find two thin black rubber pieces to the left and right that is hiding the clips that need to be opened that you always say gets broken when you pry the piece that is under the Swivel piece with the Sony Name on it. I hope you understand what I am saying. Thank you for helping me to repair my Sony XM3's I got for an unbelievable God Father price on Ebay.

I followed this guide and I was able to fix my headphones. I accidentally desoldered the cables for the headphone driver while soldering the white cable so for anyone else who made this mistake it is copper on the left and green on the right! If you solder them the wrong order the driver makes a wooooooo sound when powered on.

I had a problem when installing mine when it came to the last step snapping the two pieces together. One side snapped in, but then the other side wouldn't. I could tell that the lip of the inner piece had bent slightly, and it wouldn't snap in. I had a hard time getting the two pieces apart again, but eventually was able to get them apart. I cannot for the life of me get them to snap together correctly. I'm really disappointed, given how expensive these pieces are.

Hello!! Can you tell me what is that part above the speaker plastic cover grill, in the middle. It's round and it has a cable. It also has a black tape covering it. Is that an internal noise cancelling microphone? What happens if you touch it (even without the earpads and cushions removed)? Can you damage it by accidentally touching it or applying pressure when holding your headphones? Thanks for all your videos. They are very helpful and detailed.

    • @jfjfjf

It's an internal microphone used for "pressure feedback". I've got my headphones open now and i'm fucking around with it trying to figure out how to stop this horrible hissing feedback sound that's happening on the left ear. Maybe disconnecting, shorting, or adding additional resistors here would fix it... at this point I've got nothing to lose lol

Seems like. I just had the same thing happen to me, the outer portion snapped at the very top where the thin bit of plastic holds the inner one snapped in. Debating going through the fix process, or using a small metal zip tie to hold it together. Or just getting the XM4 as they are currently $248 on Amazon and might not be a bad idea to have backup now that mine have seen almost 4 years of tough service. Amazing headphones, gotta say.

@@Chuckolicious I'm afraid i can't say the same. And i definitely would not buy another sony product if i was you, but that's only my opinion.
I bought these things and tested them out against the Bose equivalent, the QC35 pair (at the time - there are now QuietComfort 45s which i've bought, and which, for my requirements, are absolutely ideal and more robust than the sony equivalent) once the pandemic started to bite in March last year. I preferred the simplicity of the Bose - i really do not like the way that the sony software and the headset are both constantly trying to adjust themselves as i can do this myself - but i sold the Bose on in favour of the sonys, because, 'sound quality'.
Fast forward not even 18 months and snap, the right slider 'loop' breaks. Now i've got £200 earphones falling off my head. So i did my due diligence, managed to find a sony repair centre number, and spoke to a very decent guy out in europe who explained that i needed to call the uk repair center, providing me with their number at the same time.
Called the uk repair centre number and was told 'sorry bruv, £120 MINIMUM repair (possibly excluding labour), and you can expect a four week wait time to start with'.
Looked into purchasing the replacement part which i finally found on a middle eastern website, only to realise too late that the soldered connection is a fixed component. i guess i'm used to buying things i can sort out myself.
I suppose my question is why should i pay the manufacturer of this thing over half the cost of their poorly designed product just to have it repaired, when they have clearly either (a) tried to build ill-considered planned obsolescence into their substandard product, or (b) just been too lazy to build it properly in the first place.
My answer to my own question i suppose is no, i'll go back to Bose. The Bose interface and functionality seems simpler and easier to grasp (for me as a sound designer, anyway, as i don't need or want superfluous widgets trying to modulate my audio for me), and this whole sony mess seems like a bit too much.

@@jjstephenson2692 Oh man, that sucks. I’ve so abused these things that this snap actually surprises me that it held up this long. Basic plastic zip tie totally fixed it. I put one on the other side too to reinforce the weak spot. Black zip ties, kind of unnoticeable. But if I had your experience I’d be pissed too! I might still make these my dedicated Quest 2 headphones and get something new to abuse in the real world.

If you buy an XM4 headband with the cables running through it and the XM4 right-side's PCB, you can avoid soldering. Only XM3 needs soldering.

Hi my XM3 suddenly is not turning on. I tried charging it but the blue light is showing instead of red light. Brought it to sony service center and I was told I need to pay USD 250 as the whole parts inside needs replacement. Do you have any idea of how we can fix it ourselves. We only use it a couple of times :(
