You sir are a genius. Replaced the battery and works a treat. I wouldn't of had the courage in replacing the battery until I saw your video. Excellent walk through. A million thanks. 👍
Fixed! Solution at end. / Very nice guidance video which did not work for my situation. Here is what I observed. The head phone was dropped in a pond. When brought to me, it was fully dry and will not turn on. USB charge light is on and drawing 310mA. When ON button is pressed, the Charge light goes off and the current drops to 50mA. After a few seconds, the light by the USB comes back on and the current jumps back to 310MA. The head phones react the same as you demonstration in your guidance but did not alter per my observations. I opened the ear set and noted that there were no signs of water on the plastic or circuit board. Disconnected battery to measure 3.8V on battery and 4.14V on board connecter with USB connected. Reassembled and re-ran your tests to no avail. Put on charger for 10 minutes. Still won't turn ON. I have not opened the push button side. I opened the other side and no water intrusion seen. // Later, I noticed that if I hold the power ON button for 7 seconds, the unit would give the 4 blinks. This led me to think the Custom button might be shorted. Re-Opened the Left side and was able to only view the tiny button board and not brake wires, due to to way it was assembled. Opened the circuit board side to remove the flex cable to see a tiny bit of corrosion on some fingers. Cleaned fingers of all flex connectors with white eraser. Re-assembled, NOW IT WORKS! YIPPY!
Same here. It seems the red light flashing issue can happen with either the heat sensor flex or the touch panel flex. My touch panel flex had a tiny bit of corrosion causing a short. Easy fix in the end.
Great video. Followed all the different steps, then finally replaced the battery and still not charging. I got the double blinking red at first and took the battery out again. Now getting no red light at all. A lot of problems with these very expensive headphones!
Your video did wonders. Thank you so much ! I am autistic and these are my life. I already had to change them 3 times because of audio quality issues using the full 3 years warranty I bought with them. Still it cost me 50 euros each time.
OMG :’) literally me fucking too i’m so happy you were able to fix them! mine haven’t worked properly for months now and i basically have to jumpstart them😭 (just realized i most likely have to replace the battery if i’m literally jumpstarting it every.single.time.🤦🏻♀️), I’ve been extremely deterred from going out , transiting, going on walks, practically most outside activities, and coupled with how un-fun house duties are now that i can’t be immersed in music and be in my own little bubble life fucking blows, i want my peace back lol
Thanks, removing the battery worked for me. I had bought a new Sony MX4 online and it stopped charging 3 months later. Sony SG wouldn't repair it under warranty as I didn't buy it in SG so had to pay $275 to repair it. It then broke again 6 months later and this UA-cam fixed it. Thanks again. I dont think I will buy Sony again.
hi, thanks so much for the video! i tried disconnecting and reconnecting the battery, sadly it didn't work. i have a suspicion it might be the charging port? (not sure if the whole port is loose or broken or if maybe the pins are damaged?) wondering if you know how to fix this/if its fixable without sending them for repair.. thank u!
Someone said do this, and it worked: i just holded the power button and then plugged in the charger while still pressing the powerbutton. Don’t know if this will
Oh my god.... Oh my God you saved my headphone.... My head phone was not turning on since 2 months and i was thinking to throw it away... But your step 1 worked... Lots lots lots of thanks...
Thank you! Great technical video! I lost one of the 4 silver screws, but found it in the carpet, barely, by turning off all the lights and angling a flashlight beam.
My WXM5s stopped charging and I couldn't find any tutorials for that model. However, they are similar enough that I was able to use this video to troubleshoot the 5s. The linked ebay store has parts for the 5s as well and I was able to replace both the battery and charging motherboard on my own once this video taught me how to take them apart without hurting anything. Thank you for the video! It was a real life saver!
Thank you for helping me. I just did a whole airline flight without using my new headphones because I didn’t know how to turn the power on! The flight home should be much better. All the best. 🙋🏼♀️🇦🇺
in case of charging problem, try turning the headphones on before plugging in the charger. If the battery is totally dead, plug in the charger while holding the power button. These have always worked for me, I'm not certain if they would work for everyone.
Hi there Jon, I tried all fixes, even ordered your battery replacement and completed a replace. Still nothing on the headphones. Any suggestions for what to do next? Thanks!
Thanks for this clear and concise video , I’m happy to see some folks got there’s up and running again, I’m at my 2nd battery change and it looked like it was charging, 60% at first , down to 10% after a day, now red led goes dark every 7 seconds or so. I did change the right side board as well as I had noticed a crack. Hoping you’ll have a cure for this!
Hi, i have the exact same issue as you, suddenly the headphones wont charge, the red light just goes away after 20 sec or so, have you solved this issue? do i have to replace the battery?
Hi Jon, it did not work. :( I did all what you explained, disconnected the battery, but could not disconnect the heat sensor. My Model of WH1000XM4 looks a bit different on this aspect. And I could not reach the connector of the heat sensor. Nevertheless I did disconnected the battery 10 - 15 min and remounted everything. At the End the led red of charge is on when charging cable plugged but the headphone still stays dead when I tried to put it on. Also the reset thing does not work with on button + NC button pushed together. What to do ?
i usually watch plenty of videos and never like and subscribe to them but your video was big help and saved me from spending a couple hundred on a replacement that i gotta like and subscribe lol
I had an issue with my headphones not turning on at all (except when you use the cable LOL). I didn't hope that this solution would resolve the issue, but it worked!! Thank you so much!
Hi, I've tried both resets. I do get a glimmer of a blue light when I attempt to turn on the headphones. The red light is on when charging as well, but doesn't turn on unfortunately. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
What worked for me. Follow his instructions but after disconnecting the battery do this next step. Hold down the power button for 10 seconds to discharge any residual power in any capacitors. Then reassemble and charge. It worked for me. I did his step but it didn’t work, then I remembered this trick about discharging capacitors by holding the power button down on electronic devices to erase any stored memory. Try it out it might work. Good luck!
Thank you for showing how to disassemble. I was having a clicking sound when the ANC was on, but just removing the earcup and cleaning inside solved it.
Thank you so much for creating such a wonderful video! Thanks to your efforts, I was able to eliminate the terrible noise, and the battery started charging, which made me especially happy! However, two problems still persist: Although the battery charges, it incorrectly reads the charge level and always indicates a low battery. The touch sensor on the right earbud has stopped working. Have you possibly encountered this or heard of similar issues?
Cheers! Had to disconnect then reconnect the battery to save mine, still a valid solution in 2024 🙌 The problem: Stopped charging beyond 10%, warranty is registered in another country. Solution: The video My headphone is only 2 months old, very disappointed at Sony for this manufacturing issue.
Thanks for this. The power suddenly went on my WH1000XM4 headphones. No lights and battery wouldn't charge. I've disconnected the battery and reattached to no avail. But before I buy a replacement battery, does it make sense that it would suddenly stop like that, rather than slowly fail to charge?
So my red light isn’t showing up at all in the first place. I told the power button, it turns on for a second and immediately tells me “battery dead, please charge headset” and then turns off. At what point do I plug it in while I’m holding it down.
I'm really glad I read all the comments, I had taken it apart but no red light... then I saw your comment and tried it... Hello red light... fingers crossed it works and they are back alive 😃
Great video. Replaced battery but no red light when on charge. Disconnected charger cable, did a factory reset by holding both buttons down for about 7 seconds until light flashed blue 4 times. Reconnected charge cable and got a red solid light. Problem fixed. Thanks for great video
I replaced the battery but I am still getting the flashing red color. The new battery replacement didn’t come with a new heat sensor. Do you think I should buy a new heat sensor or what could cause the problem? Thank you
Hey! Great video and thanks for all of the helpful info. I replaced the battery and now the headphones will power on. However, they will not charge. I disassembled the entire right can check connections on from the USB C to the board, and everything looks good. Is the next step to replace USB C port?
hey man awesome video. so when i plug my headset in the red charging light doesnt come on, so cant turn it on. the headset still works but only with aux cord plugged in. the shop recommended cleaning the charging connection area but i cant really get in there to clean it. any thoughts? also should I replace the battery, been out of use for quite some time
Have you tried disconnecting and reconnecting the battery? Sometimes that will do the trick. If that doesn't work I'd recommend either a new battery or a new charging port. It's kind of a toss up as to which one will fix the issue. Best wishes!
Hi Jon. Fantastic video. To the point, thoroughly explained and totally fool-proof. Unfortunately I have not been able to revive my XM4s. Yesterday, my bottle of water spilled in my back pack containing my XM4s and they got drowned in water. I’m pretty sure they’re totally broken, as I’ve tried all the reset options etc to no avail. They are completely unresponsive to anything, except the charging light which does come on when I plug them in. Before I painfully pay full price for a new pair, do you think it’s worth a shot to bring them to an electronic repairs store? Or do you think trying your final step replacing the battery could do the trick? Or are the headphones totally broken because of the water damage? Thank you!
Wow great video. Very different compared to other where they rush it and sometimes forget to mention a step, but in yours it's calm, slow and very detailed 🔥🔥🔥🔥. Question, can you use a flat screwdriver instead of a prying tool? And is it ok to use a pair of tweezers when reconnecting the cables?
I just used a flat screw instead of a prying tool, i broke one clip but i think it should be fine and i wouldn't worry. Just be very slow with it. My headphones aren't working so i think i need a new battery
I cannot thank you enough. You are so more helpful than sony itself and I'm really hopeful this will work. I am so grateful for you thankyouthankyouthankyouthankyouthankyou!!!!
Jon, thank you for your help my Sony headphones have had charging issues now no power present is there somewhere to send these as they were a gift and also out of warranty
Hi Jon, thanks for the videos on WH-1000XM4. My microphone isn't working, as in it is not picking up my voice at all during calls. I have to switch to laptop's microphone in calls. Any tip on how the microphone can be fixed?
Unfortunately there are 5 built-in microphones in the headphones and I'm not familiar with how to replace them. I would try a factory reset to see if that may help the issue. You can also try updating the headphones via the Sony app on your phone. Best wishes!
Installed new OEM battery with the help of your video and it initially worked but once it needed recharging it will not recharge along with red charging light not on. I've tried all the various reset options and also tried disconnecting battery but no luck. Any suggestions or possibly need new charging circuit board? Thanks
I will try these suggestions. I hope it works out. Is the charging light supposed to be on the entire time it's plugged in until it's fully charged? Because mine will light up for a little bit and then go out.
Thanks Jon, unfortunately this hasn't fixed my issue, after replacing both the battery and the USB module I still can't get the headphones to charge. The headphones worked for about 10 minutes when the new battery had live in it, so I managed to go through the reset sequence but still no charge light. I am assuming that the problem lies within the main circuit board? Thanks in advance.
Great video. Did not work with my pair on XM4 however. Any other ideas? Bought a replacement battery off Amazon. Didn’t come with heat sensor so I used the original one. Headphones won’t charge
Hi great video, my headphones - red charge light comes on for approx 10sec then goes off, only way I can get them to charge is to connect & disconnect the lead numourus times until the charge light stays on. Any ideas why?
I'm not sure why that is happening but it sounds like it's either a charging port issue or a battery issue. I'd try replacing one first and seeing if it fixes it - if not, try replacing the other. Best wishes!
Thanks for making the video but I all the steps and still doesn’t power up. It charges (at least the red light stays on) but won’t power up and won’t even flash blue when I hold it for 7s as per the factory restore. Any experience with this specific issue or solutions?
If anyone is having an issue where their red light is blinking slowly like slow red blinks while charging, change the type of charger or usb port you’re using. I was using a USB hub and it was not charging and it was blinking slowly which indicated abnormal charging said in Sony’s page. I then charged it to my gaming pc’s usb port and it stopped blinking slowly and is now a stable red light. I’ll update if it charges or turns on after. I tried to hard reset it as well and it didn’t work before all this but idk
Jon, replaced battery and it still won't charge. Any recommendations for next thing to replace? I was using them as wireless headphones, then for a while they were my PS5 gaming headset, and now they won't charge...
I just did a full battery replacement and it's still not holding a charge. Still says low battery, about 10%. The red light stayed on for a good hour charging after I installed the replacement but it's still the low battery nonsense. At least I can still plug them into my laptop and wear around my place with the noise cancelling... assuming it at least charges back to 10%. Thanks for your video all the same... could I replace the charging port?
What’s the music? Also do you have a link to charging port and ribbon replacements? The red charging light went completely on mine, is that more likely a charging port or battery issue?
Hey John! I bought a replacement battery from eBay, but when I got it, it does not have a heat sensor, am I missing something? I would love to get some help
Hi, Very useful video. My WH1000XM3 won't power up. Tried all steps (resets) but no luck. Replaced battery, Let it fully charge but the handset is till not powering up. Any suggestions please, what can be wrong, what else can I try? Thanks
Thanks! I was upset about this! You fixed my phone in 43 seconds.

in case of charging problem, try turning the headphones on before plugging in the charger.

Thank you for a great video! Any tips on a corroded USB C port. Think that's what's causing the interrupted charging?
The reset did the trick for me, thank you so much
Had powering up issue, re-seating the battery cable fix the problem. Thank you!
I can’t thank you enough
Really appreciate your support
Now it’s works fine with me
I love you always helps me when it shuts down thank you very much ❤
Thank you for fixing my headphones! 🎧
Great video. Did not work with my pair on XM4 however. Any other ideas? Bought a replacement battery off Amazon. Didn’t come with heat sensor so I used the original one. Headphones won’t charge
i think i have the same issue as you, have you been able to find a solution?
@@nyaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa1944 yes. I threw them away and bought a pair of Bose nose cancelling over ears 😆
Having the same issue after replacing. Nothing is coming up.
Thanks a lot. Your video saved a lot time and money for me . Just simple factory reset able to to solve my headphone issue
Disconnecting battery helped. At least for now it charge. Anyway, I know replacing the battery is easy if it breaks again. Thanks for the video.
hi there, came across your video and i was wondering what the problem might be with mine since i already switched the battery
Thank you so much. My charging light never went out. Did the rest and it goes out when full now!
Factory reset worked. Thank you for this video 💯
Mine does the same?! These were expensive headphones. Won’t be buying any Sony products any time soon.
Thanks for making the video but I all the steps and still doesn’t power up. It charges (at least the red light stays on) but won’t power up and won’t even flash blue when I hold it for 7s as per the factory restore. Any experience with this specific issue or solutions?
I have the same Issue, were you able to solve the problem?
@@hendrik5745 Same :(
Mine is 4.2 volt by the way, so the battery DOES seem to charge.
Disconnecting the battery worked for me thank you !!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for this upload. Could you tell me what screwdriver you used in the video?
#00 Philips :)
Hi Jon, the left side doesn't make any sound, do you know how to solve this issue? Appreciate your feeback! thx
