Perfect, easy-follow tutorial! I did it in about 45 mins and I'm so happy I can use my headphones again. I love these headphones so much that I don't even care if I have to replace this part again. Had to use my eyeglasses screwdriver but it all worked out haha.
So about a month after I replaced my right swivel hinge, my left (still original) one broke too! But now I've just replaced it as well thanks to you guys so hopefully these headphones will last me another few years. Every thing else on them is still working great so definitely a better deal to pay a small amount to replace these hinges than to buy all brand new headphones. These are going on their 3rd or 4th year with nearly daily use for up to 8+ hours a day, so I'm still happy with their performance but also happy that I could do my own repair.
I have a trip over the Fourth of July weekend, and my hinge swivel suddenly broke last week, making my headphones unusable. I really wanted to have my headphones for the flight, so I considered buying new ones until i discovered the replacement hinge you sell. I ordered it with priority shipping so i could get it before my trip, and once i got it i was able to do the whole repair in a half hour. Thanks for saving me 300 bucks and keeping my plane ride a little more peaceful!

Thank you for posting I hated the thought of throwing away my favorite ($300+) headphones because of a small plastic part. Sony referred me to a repair shop and was quoted around $160 for this repair. I was able to repair myself with your $30 part and this video. Also very impressed with the shipping time. Fantastic tutorial, the only part that gave me trouble was getting those damn silver screws out in step 2. Managed to completely strip one of them but I got it out eventually. Many thanks

thank you for the guide. I should've been more careful when you mentioned to put the connector in carefully since the parts are fragile. Right then and there I broke a piece of the plastic connector lol. Great video and easy to follow!
My left hinge exploded last week, so after discovering your video I ordered the parts from your site and followed your video once they were delivered. The parts were high quality and worked perfect, and the video is super easy to follow and well explained.
Unfortunately, right as the left hinge was delivered, the right hinge decided it wanted to explode too! So, looks like I'm ordering the right hinge now, haha.

My wife broke my swivel and I didn't even look at them until today which is 2 days before my flight. The only time I use them is during travel, but at least I know I can fix them when I return. Thank you for the detailed video. Truly appreciate it!!!

Thank you for this great video, I replaced the left hinge thanks to your detailed step by step guide. Since replacing the left hinge the volume on the left headphone is much quieter than the right- could this have been caused by a loose connection while I was replacing the hinge?

I ordered the replacement piece but it seem that the little nob on the headphones headband is broken so even after putting it in the hole with the metal bracket it still comes out. Can I get a replacement for the other piece on the headband side?

And i am back, the hinge is fine though so thats good but im finding the hinge cover adhesive failing and then the part with the L symbol is separating from the rest of the hinge, what adhesive do you recommend to fix this as I dont hear in snapping into place anymore. Ok looking at it even more I'm back to inquiring for best adhesive any recommendations please?

Yes , it’s to replace the blue o-ring if it breaks or is broken. They break very easily.

I bought 3 pairs of these for my sons and i and all of them the hinges broke. Ive had mine for 3 years, my sons have had theirs for 2. These are great sound quality headphones but this is a common problem with them.

Agreed, XM5 is very difficult to make repairs, they do it on purpose. It’s how they do business and it’s not good.
Happens too often. Stupid Sony design flaw. They charge so much just to look at it and then charge another 200 to fix. Cheaper to fix yourself or buy a used one😊

There was a lot of obstacles along the way so it took more than 1 hour but this video was really helpful! Thanks.
Compare to Apple - Sony is a lot easier to repair since you only need ONE type of screw a phillips one. No other complicated stuff that ONLY Apple uses to make it harder to repair.
Only bad thing is that I hade to buy shipping for $20, and $10 in customs fee for a replacement part that costs $30 so kinda expensive if you live outside the US.
