well if there was a landing spot for him right now that was perfect, it was indeed baltimore. marcus williams covers any issue on being rangy and chuck clark is fairly reliable in the box. baltimore has all the tools in the backfield already to use Hamilton for his wide versatility.

A good player 4 sure but vastly overrated. He is a good safety not special. He doesn’t jar balls loose with hits, he gets help to one side in coverage every time. He can’t man up on super fast slots like fan boys say. He can’t cover good fast outside WRs man up. He doesn’t come from outa nowhere flashing on the scene in a blink making splash plays. He doesn’t flash on the scene 2 stop duel threat QBs. His short explosion is very average. He’s athletic for how long he is and can cover TEs. He’s technically assignment sound, He has very good instincts as well.

The classic he play's everywhere, will he fit anywhere? The last top tier prospect with those same doubts was Minkah, and he turned great, especially after he moved to Pittsburgh. I think with all prospects that break the mold of their "position," Kyle Pitts, Deebo Samuel, Christian McCaffrey etc., the key is whether they end up witha creative coach that will exploit their strengths and uniqueness, and not try and squeeze them into a box they don't fit. So, as with pretty much all draft prospects at this stage, let's wait and see.

I agree that Hamilton is a high risk, high reward player. Personally, with how the league is progressing, I think Hamilton's inability to exclusively serve in one position is his biggest strength. Versatility seems to be the name of the game right now, so teams confident in their ability to conform to this strategy could benefit greatly from the schematic advantage Hamilton poses.

Hamilton is one of the major reasons the Ravens defense is so stout this year. He is already considered one of the best defenders, let alone DBs, in the NFL. He is a student of the game , while giving out lessons. His versatility gives McDonald looks from his defense that other teams just can't mimic and at times comprehend. Being a Notre Dame fan and a resident of Baltimore City , I can say , his presence on this Ravens team along with the acquisition of Roquan Smith has changed this defense into something really special. Kyle is a unicorn. He reminds me of another big DB from Notre Dame. Bobby Taylor. Who I had the pleasure of watching play while he was with the Philadelphia Eagles. Yes, before the Ravens came to town I was an Eagles fan. During those years , tickets to Eagles games were pretty cheap. I mean who wants to pay to watch Ty Detmer quarterback your team? Cool video. @@TrillVilla5 I mean I agree and disagree with you. I’m a Steelers fan so trust me when I say I’m not underselling Ed or Troys talent at all. They are awesome players. But the fact is The Safety position needing to become more versatile is a direct result of how the league has changed it’s offensive concepts…And if you look at the Seahawks defense over the past 5 years you’ll see how the older style of defense isn’t able to keep up from a roster construction standpoint. Combine that with Players and Coaches reevaluating what makes a good safety at both the college and NFL level and it’s honestly a wonderful mess of things all having to do with that position. I honestly Think while innovation can be fast from a coaching standpoint the adaptation to those innovations can be quite a slow process especially when it comes to a talent evaluation standpoint. How many years after Michael Vick did it take for many more teams to look for a dual threat QB. It’s not a simple instance. Even look at Cam Newton for a more recent example. For a while he was in the league with a bunch of traditional pocket passers because the stigma was Michael Vick and Cam Newton are just freaky talents that are outliers….but if you look at the league today and the amount of QB’s that rush quite a bit. It’s a slow process to get coaches at high school and college levels to understand hey yeah this kid might be a decent QB and give them the shot…and then the scouts have to also evaluate for that and teams have to draft them. And all of this for the person to just get a shot at playing/practicing.
This is actually are really interesting conversations so thanks for having it with me. Typically especially for the Safety position kid’s don’t grow up practicing and wanting to be a safety. Usually they play another position and get put in the position of Safety at the college level so it’s one of those weird positions where a large variety of sizes and speeds occur. I love the position and am excited to see players like Derwin James develop even further.

I’d so much rather take Hamilton-with his incredibly high floor & unlikelyness to miss-than gamble on Travon Walker developing into everything he wasn’t college based on the combine. Playing the actual game is an entirely different ball of wax than testing to have great athleticism. And this kid can play the game. The last player that had almost universal praise as a prospect that Alex and I agreed was a tad overrated was Isaiah Simmons. Similar players. Huge "safeties". Simmons is a better athlete. Hamilton has better instincts but both might not have a true position in the NFL. Simmons is a off ball LB with some versatility. I like Hamilton but people saying he's the best player in the draft and a top 5 pick I completely disagree with. I lean more pick 16-32. He's a good athlete but not a freak like everyone is saying. Much slower then Derwin and Jeremy Chinn and Dugger. Not as explosive either ( still good explosive numbers tho ). He's also not as physical as any of those guys. He has really good length and changes direction well for a big DB. I think he'll be really good against the TE's. But you can find guys like Eric Rowe and Jayron Kearse and others for cheap.

Its the Simmons/JOK thing for him. I think the issue for Hamilton he's not nearly as fast. His 3 cone and explosiveness are all there. I think the reason for concern is him trying to cover anyone like a Calvin Austin in the slot, or getting lost and allowing guys to beat him deep. If he can't cover, then he's just a linebacker hybrid and selecting someone that high isn't winning football. Personally I think he's more linebacker than safety. A 4.7 pro day 40 isn't good enough. Its fine for college but in the pros, those guys are too crafty.

He has little issues squaring up and making hits especially in the open field and I can absolutely see him being more than capable or making plays in the box and at the los. But I agree with you, He would have major issues covering any speed slots in the league. Big slots and TEs He can do very well against though. I also don't think it's on him to define a position for himself. The best coaches define roles around guys skill sets and with all his tools I think it comes down to the system and the DC. 110% a boom or bust.
