Google Nest Audio | Setup & Review | Best smart speaker for music?

- Reviewing the Google Nest Audio smart speaker, an upgraded home model fresh for 2020, offering the best music quality of any of Google's line-up. Here I setup and test the Nest Audio, with a closer look at the sound quality as well as that Assistant functionality.
Here in the UK, you can grab this speaker from Amazon and other high street retailers from October 15, for £90.
Like previous Home devices, you get a combo plastic and fabric finish, available in chalk or charcoal colours. Google has boosted the sound output, so you now get 75% more power and 50% stronger bass vs that original Home smart speaker. The Nest Audio serves up surprisingly good music despite its compact size, with a strong enough volume to fill even quite a large room. Plus you can connect multiple devices for a speaker output or synced playback throughout your house.
To setup, just download Google Home for your Android phone or iPhone and follow the instructions, as we run through in this video. You can then use Hey Google commands to interact with the Nest Audio, via the triple far-field mic config.

Was I absent for some "back to mono" movement? Last I checked 99.9 % of music is recorded in two channel stereo which requires at least two speakers for playback. What is this sudden disinterest in stereo sound that people just don't give a shit if they listen to mono or stereo?
And you review the "best smart speaker" (singular) for MUSIC without even mentioning that two speakers reproducing stereo will sound better than one speaker. Maybe I'm just an old fart but damn this is an important issue if quality of sound is your goal. Personally I find it perplexing.

Love your channel for an honest opinion. Just received my Google Nest today and LOVE IT. We have loads or echos and Google homes already.. Love the design and the sound is very full, especially the bass. Worth every penny.

Brought 2 of the charcoal speakers today. I feel like its an absolute essential as I hate dead slience in my room and didn't want to blow the bank in committing to a speaker setup.

I've paired my $50 Google Hub 2nd gen with a $5-10 B/T receiver plugged into my stereo receiver. Works great, and produces ACTUAL stereo sound.

Will Google ever add digital audio back into the output to any of these smart/home devices? So glad I caught the final sale on the Chromecast Audio and got 2, even though I didn't know it was EOL at the time. Imagine how big they could be if they didn't kill off every good idea they had

The JBL link 10 went on sale at a local store near me for $35CAD no tax. So I snagged 3, they're amazing👏
Maybe when you turn the mic off it actually turns the mic level higher in case you're up to some nefarious activities in your cellar that need to be reported back to the CIA.

Cheers, man. So... nothing revolutionary to sacrifice £90 right now. For me, the fair price for this is £39 - £45 and that's exactly the price I paid for both my older Google Home devices! I am happy as Larry playing some music while cooking and during my workouts, the audio quality from such things is just enough for everyday listening. Both Google and Amazon released their speakers now but there is nothing really new. It's just leftovers pizza advertised as four course dinner imho.

@TechSpurt I have a house full with Nest Audio speakers like the one you are reviewing. I agree the sound is great but I do miss a Subwoofer. It really really lacks bass in my opinion. Is there a solution for this?

what’s it’s compatibility like with an iphone? i’m planning on getting it because i stream music using youtube music but my phone is an iphone and i don’t want to lose out on very many features

Mr Tech Spurt, although you were able to use Google Home to make and receive phone calls, the microphone quality for the person listening at the other end was totally pants and completely unusable. Have you tested this feature on the Nest Audio (if it has it)? And if so, was it any good?

Are you able to play audiobooks on a paired Nest speakers? I tested it on the Nest Mini and it wouldn't play but works when unpaired.

You have to sign into your account on your nest hub. But what if everyone in the house want to use and control lights , thermostat and view door bell camera alerts? How do you manage the sign ID if you are sharing the nest hub?
Does it always have to be connected in the wall socket? Or is it possible to charge it and then put the Google nest in another room?

I just got a nest mini that was free because spotify premium, I mean.. I ordered it in September and only just got it but anyway that's beside the point. I'm quite happy with it in the kitchen for when I'm cooking but when you said about having a couple in the same room it got me thinking.. Would it be possible if you had 2 in the same room that you could genuinely set them up as one being left and the other right for true stereo? Hell it would be brilliant if you could link up 5 for surround sound, maybe have 5 nest minis and a nest audio enhancing the lower frequencies (as obviously it would be a poor substitute for a subwoofer but i'm saying it could go at least some way to try and get a similar effect). Just a thought, it would be a cool implementation
Or you could buy a B/T receiver for $10 for your stereo and plug in an ACTUAL subwoofer.
Does the stereo speaker configuration actually play the left and right audio channels individually? Or is it just two mono speakers playing exact same audio on both?
It is actually stereo instead of dual mono, can confirm. Watch Short Circuit as they confirm this.

Does this work with Amazon Prime Music. I’m guessing not as they are competitors in the smart speaker biz, but I thought I would ask.
I have only the Google Mini and would probably buy this, especially for listening to more Pandora, except for one thing. I'm extremely power-conservative and having 30W on constantly just seems wasteful.

You can wit the the new chromecast wit google tv! That's exactly why Eye got the chromecast. Now Just deciding if upgrading my nest minis in my bedroom to these are worth it for that big surround sound!

I'm trying to figure out if they produce the same sound tho.. Because I have the Google home max and it's huge and heavy. He's holding this one up like it's nothing

@@jamesmyers6739 the max is definitely better sound-wise. The Max Also has the smart sound feature that adapts to the room
