Riceball01 it’s used by marksmanship coaches. the campaign cover (ones worn by drill instructors) are worn by PMI’s and combat marksmanship trainers (CMT)
Your USMC content is incredible! Thank you for this, helpful for the re-enacting types I'm sure but as an amateur historian, this is high quality content for me to compare details and analyze advantages/disadvantages and just plain differences. This whole series, canteens, tent shelters, is excellent. Thanks for all of it.
My helmet(s), 1964-1970, were identical to WWII; they were manufactured during WWII (as was my Garand, ammo, web gear, canteen, etc. (even some of the rations - but newer rations were Korean War vintage; we didn't get "B" rations until late 1960s); the the helmet liner was a better grade than WWII I was told by my nco(s); I think my head band(s) was better grade, but maybe just because they were newer. The netting was the same. The elastic strap for "vegetation" was new and used primarily for bug juice, cigarettes, micellaneous - even band-aids. FTS!
The liner with the S means it was made by Seaman Paper CO. I hope that helps anyone wondering Thanks for sharing this collection with us. Very nice M1 Helmet collection
I also like mounting a net over a disruptive pattern cover. A net over burlap is a second choice. I like using greenish net over brownish covers for a contrasting effect.
+milcoll73 You are right about that. The stainless brim and the cloth chin straps are WW2 giveaways. Has anyone have the heart to tell him? I saw one like that on ebay and stayed away from it.
hi i have a picture of an unusual reinforced wwll usmc helmet cover from the national museum of the pacific war and i was wondering if you could take a look at it. I cannot find any information at all on it online. please let me know where I can send the picture. Thanks Alex
Those helmets are AMAZING! I have an early war M1917A1 helmet and a mid war from seam swivel bale helmet, but that's pretty much it. It's always nice to see some really nice helmets because mine aren't the best lol.
I have a M1 helmet that has the swivel chin strap. How do I figure out what time it was made? There wasn't a liner that came with it, so I bought a modern made plastic one and I'm not too satisfied with it since your can see it protruding out from the bottom of the helmet.
I think it'd be a good video if you did a video of UMC Marine corps Vietnam helmet covers against world war II m1 helmet covers to show what the different variances are keep doing videos you do job and you give lots of good information
I really like to buy an American WWII combat helmet but I don't want to get a fake one I seen one on eBay for $125 but I'm not sure if it's real it looks real what should I do where should I go please help.
Best places to buy M1 steel pot helmets are at military swap meets, militaria shows, estate sales, and special websites that focuses on the sales of military surplus gear. As for an American WW2 combat helmet, there are several different variations of the M1 steel pot helmet because during the war and afterwards, changes were made to the helmet. Be patient when looking for one and don’t be disgruntled when you find a M1 steel pot that was used after WW2. Remember, the M1 steel pot was used well after WW2 up until the 1980s when it was replaced by the Kevlar PASGT helmet. I wish you luck.
@@HistoryCollectorsForum thank you I did this talk to another guy on UA-cam just ordered one off eBay and he saw the pictures and said it look really good he collected them and thank you so much for your advice to
that mosquito net would be nice if it worked because it would keep bugs and light debris and branches out of your face and break up your outline a bit.
+Archduke Alessio Galvunum The profile of the helmet didnt really changed. During ww2 there were two hemet producer Schlueter and i dont remember the other one. The helmet profile varied by company, but very little, and the 80s m1 helmets are vietnam era made, only with new straps and liners
I wouldnt clean the brass, the oxidation from age looks more original and is part of the history, most collectors dont clean their helmets the Marine issue mosquito net & cover was issued all the way to 1991 during Desert Storm to US MARINES. They still had plenty of unissued ones left over from WWII
In my opinion the Pacific Theater Frogskin Camouflage helmet is pretty cool because I honestly like the pacific campaign the most also the Frogskin camp looks cool
We Americans got our WWI helmets from the British before we started producing them, but the example in the video definitely looks like it has a WWII British liner and chinstrap setup. The chinstraps have been simplified from the fabric with elastic to plain fabric.
No it is not Saint Clair liners were extremely rare just like the Hawks and looked like a Hawley the S in the helmet liner for this one is Seaman paper company *****
Identifying markings can be really difficult. They are not invasion markings. Without seeing it I can only guess but I believe they are post war inventory numbers
Did this guy really say that recruits wore the Fiber helmet? WRONG, Shooting coaches on the range wear them and they're Lances to Sergeants if a recruit was caught with a coaches cover he would be in BIG trouble

This response is 6 years late, but me listening to Joe’s presentation, letting him talk, and acknowledging to his statements like saying, “yeah or mhmm,” is peak enthusiasm for me; and I like his USMC collection.
I have an ww2 tool for diging trenches it says US 1943 ames or something like that and i yust realise a few days ago that is from ww2 2 years ago i cut a peace of the woden handel and i am sorry because i destroyed peace of history :( shit
Fun fact the 3rd helmet is still in use to this day in the usmc.
But only with PMIs (Primary Marksmanship Instructors) working in either Parris Island or San Diego teaching recruits how to shoot.
Riceball01 it’s used by marksmanship coaches. the campaign cover (ones worn by drill instructors) are worn by PMI’s and combat marksmanship trainers (CMT)
@Wombato surplus yea

That makes a lot of sense

missing that sick old Pickelhaube-pith helmet mix the Corps had.
You guys should do another video of Marine Corps canteens and covers!
The "S" marking on that liner stands for Seaman Paper Company. They began supplying the US military about September 1942 till 1945
+Rogue Five Seaman? Interesting,
The liner with the S means it was made by Seaman Paper CO. I hope that helps anyone wondering
Thanks for sharing this collection with us. Very nice M1 Helmet collection
The second one look medieval. as a kid I used to think they stopped bullets doh
Anonimus Melfi omg lol thx that looks like a ricochet that hit it, not full on. yeah the guy would have a headache
hehe
Did he say that first helmet's an M1917 pith helmet? That's a Brodie helmet, that is.
I also like mounting a net over a disruptive pattern cover. A net over burlap is a second choice. I like using greenish net over brownish covers for a contrasting effect.
Seaman Paper Company
Chicago, Illinois
Identified by a capital 'S' within an oval.
nice helmets! unfortunately your m1917 is actually a british MII helmet, probably ww2 era that someones added an ega badge to.

Alexander Estrada Saint Clair.
The first helmet i have but mine is a gold but the people said its original. Did any get that paint job?
Awesome collection of Helmets fully enjoyed the video
bro the netting on top is for tying scrim net strips to
Watch out for the white asbestos liners on the Brodie helmets.
Any statistics on how mutch protection they give?
Will stop a 9mm from about 500 yards I think. Will not stop a rifle bullet. They were made to stop artillery shrapnel.

Allowing for wear and stretch of the chin strap it probably read STM LONG 431050, the man's name followed by his six figure army number. Regards,
Paul
that mosquito net would be nice if it worked because it would keep bugs and light debris and branches out of your face and break up your outline a bit.
where is this
the S symbol inside the liner was the insignia for the "seamans paper company"
could also be schlueter markings
+gousmc1983 Schlueter only made shells not liners.

Where the helmets basically the same until the eighties?
Yes
