- Steve Dangle shares his picks for worst plays of the week in the NHL. He goes over everything from the Ottawa Senators failing to score on a 3-on-0 to not one but two players hitting their own teammates with their sticks.

that rangers celebration with the kids is just the best. love how laffy just decided to jump in
I can see the referee’s making the announcement stating they would call the goal back because of the horrendous celly. “The call on the ice is a good goal, but because of the horrible celebration the call on the ice is overturned!”
I know it was so cute!! love to see it
that was the first time in a while i remembered just how young he is haha
how did steve not mention it was our second goal in SEVEN SECONDS so ofc they got hype!
Laf just trying to resurrect those playoff vibes from last season!
To be noted with that Rangers clip: those are all of our first round draft picks from the last 5 years all on the ice for a scoring play, after so many of them have struggled, really nice moment for us fans
ya and you guys still blow
the way laffy jumps on reminded me he is still basically a kid lol
also it was SEVEN SECONDS after the last goal which made it super impressive if im remembering right
As an Islanders fan I must insist you stop having fun and desist with your youthful jubilation.
The fun part is all the rangers fans I’ve seen love that clip 🤣
The Ranger's celly was epic, you couldn't help but feel the enthusiasm and pure unadulterated joy. All the kids in on it, tying goal against the Devils while we're down 3-1, 2 goals those 7 seconds to tie it is a #hatpick
Markstrom going for the record on consecutive Dang It's.
He took over the Devil's spot this year, there was something missing, and he's filled that void.
As a Sens fan, I know we have three Dang-it's this week, but I do think DeBrincat spearing himself on the boards probably should have been in there too.
Yess 😂
0:15
The feeling when you see your own tweet on an episode of Dang-Its 😂
Me too me too
Adin Hill be behind that net like "MY CONTROLLER DIED!!!" 😂
I laughed. I don't like that I laughed, but I did.
I think the same thing happened to Markstrom, like you're mid-turn and the thing cuts out so all you can do is fall on your bum
I can relate to the ridiculous injury while playing with my dog. Last year I was running and getting my husky to run and chase me in and out of the house, I took the stairs to my basement 2 at a time, and cracked my head open on the low hanging ceiling. Concussion, Tetanus shot, and a lot of laughs after the fact for how ridiculous it was to get injured from playing with my dog.
Markstrom's 4th appearance in the past 6 dang its. Part of being a flames fan is being able to laugh at oneself
Going through the crease used to cancel out an icing, but it hasn't in a good while. A couple a times a season it comes into play and I always get annoyed that it changed. And that they never put the crease back as a semi-circle once the skate-in-the-crease rule got removed.
A while is an understatement. There is a UA-camr called Eck and he looked through nhl rule books until he found it. 1997 is the last time that specific rule appeared in an nhl rule book. That’s 25 years since that rule has been in a NHL rule book. Refs need to using rules from a quarter of a century ago!
Whenever I see that clip I don’t think it was waved off for going through the crease but instead the ref waving it off thinks Swayman touched it. He’s behind the goalie so it could go either way and honestly both ways lead to a ref dang-it along with the B’s own dang-it
As the manager of a daycare and boarding facility, I absolutely love "If you're a dogtender, tend the dog!"
That montreal clip makes me so mad, because early season in an Avs game toews accidentally hits a teammate in the face, refs call a penalty against the other team and say "the penalty cannot be reviewed"
The NHL should make all high sticking calls reviewable, to see whose stick caught the victim, not just if they're bleeding or not.
Tonight they knew they made the wrong call in the Canes game and said too bad when can't review it or take back a penalty call
@@grahamdamberger7130 please lord no there’s to many damn reviews.
It wasn't reviewed. One of the linesmen saw what actually happened and told the referee.
Yup that was against the Rangers. Lafreniere "committed" the penalty. What differentiates each penalty from the Avs-Rangers game vs the Habs- Sens game?
The NHL seems to not care about their rules lacking logical sense and having them enforced inconsistently.
Blues fan here.. It was the other way around!! Al MacInnis was on the ice at the bench and out of frustration from missing a shot slammed his stick down on the rail but hit Turcotte’s hand by mistake! Al felt so bad he got physically ill and didn’t play the rest of the game. Not sure which game that was however.
For those curious about the icing call, this video really broke it down well: ua-cam.com/video/3wSTxlQLZwA/v-deo.html
The conclusion they came to was that even though the puck went through the blue paint, that rule hasn't been on the books since circa 1997 and current icing rules make no mention of something like that.
I was wondering if that was going to link to ecks page. Good channel
That's just what continues to baffle me, Steve. How are COACHES still going on and allowing goalies to try and play the puck from behind their own net? Do THEY not see how so often it backfires greatly? How did they not all agree "We have to make the goalie stop doing this" after Marc Andre Fleury's little gaffe in the playoffs?
I watched for this in the latest World Cup, and I saw no fumbled plays despite most goalies going behind the net to play pucks. I haven't seen much of it in the Swedish league either. I dunno why there seems to be a couple every week in the NHL. Much faster play, more intense forechecking, different sized rink...
Playing the puck is becoming part of the game for goalies, and definitely something I’ve been learning since around 7 or 8 years old. It can be really effective in completely negating a teams break in strategy, for example, a team that likes to dump and chase will have a hard time doing that if the dump in gets stopped by thd goalie and correctly played. My goalie coach is a huge advocate for playing the puck, but just like with everything, sometimes you don’t need the tool for every job but it never hurts to have it in the toolbox. Let me know if that makes sense!
Someone should tell Markstrom that. This guy is in dang its nearly every week...
"Do THEY not see how so often it backfires greatly"
No, because it doesn't backfire often.
Sure, we're seeing 1-2+ every week in Dang-Its, but that's within 1000+ goalie plays outside the crease that are successful every week. So no, 2 or 3 times failing miserably isn't often, out of 1000.
It is funny though.
but you only see the errors. and the errors are far and few between. goalies do play the puck too much in certain scenarios but in the Markstrom case, losing an edge you cant do much about that.
If I remember correctly, I think it was Al MacInnis who was mad about something and broke his stick on the top of the boards....where a teammate was resting his hand. I think it happened that way because I was shocked that a cool headed classy guy like Al would lose his cool and have something that dumb happen.
That’s correct. Al was so disgusted with himself he left the game after making himself sick.
Was Craig Conroys hand
Lol the fact they used the same song in bother friendly fire clips has me laughing.
That Armia slash to Matheson could've been a very, VERY rare case of hat pick towards the refs. They discuss it to get it right, AND don't need to squint at their tamagochi during 9 minutes to get to the right conclusion? THAT was a very good ref moment! Why can't it always be this quick yet this effective?? *sigh*
I’m a goaltender. And I love your videos. I suck at playing the puck and now I have an excuse when teams ask why I don’t play the puck.
How is the rangers one a dangit? That was a sick celly. Loved it. Can’t stop watching it
If you have ever been a goaltender at a decent level (Only the ECHL for me)...you'd know your D-men love you for helping them from not getting killed all night.. That being said, I still crack up and love your commentary on the topic LOL " TEND THE GOAL!!!"
I'm slowly starting to believe, that Markstrom is the Devils of yester years, when it comes to dang it's 🤣 I think we haven't had many dang-it's videos WITHOUT Markstrom causing an dang-it. Correct me, if I'm wrong
The scream gets me every time 😂😂😂😂
The Anaheim Ducks goalie represents the duality of man in this dang-its video.
Steve, how did Colorado's goal horn blowing for a Bruins goal not make the list? 🤔
The fact that Party Up was playing during Chiabot's dang it is perfectly ironic
it was also playing during the montreal slash after the play was blown dead
That's Right. My New York Rangers Celebrate Like The Keystone Kops. LOL
awh don't be so down on the Rangers celebration, that's the kids line + Key (young dman) having a blast tying the game 8 seconds after the goal to get them within 1 in a huge rivalry game, it was a really hype goal and the celly was funny
"Number one passtime of all dads" Ahahah so true
Okay. Hill saw that there was a Flyers player covering that side. Why didn't he pass it to his teammate on the other side? That gave me shades of when Mike Smith tried passing the puck up the middle of the ice when he had a defenseman in either corner to give it to.
The Ottawa senators DJ is a genius. He played the same song that was playing when chabot slashed his own guy when the habs slashed their own guy.
Thank you Steve for your ever-jolly take on it all!!!
Lol, the last one.. 🤣 I was like what how do you miss that?
That bruins non-icing is a double dang it. The call was wrong (look up Rule 81 on page 122 of the official NHL rules) it says nothing about the blue paint negating an icing. The second dang it was mentioned in the video - play to the whistle!!!!
Al Macinnis was coming to the bench on a shift change and was upset at his play on the ice, went to break his stick (wooden ones back then) and slashed a Blues player forearm. Al was so sick with himself he didn't play the rest of the game -- straight to the locker room.
3:20 the perfect song for this 😂
In the 80's New York Rangers defenseman Dave Maloney smashed his stick on what he thought was the ice after a goal against. Maloney actually slammed his stick on the back of NYR goalie John Davidson's knee. Davidson was out for a very long time with that injury. Davidson was the Rangers #1 goalie. In that time the #1 goalie played 70-80% of the games. This was a big story in that time.
Unless they changed the rules and then changed them back, for as long as I've been a fan (mid 80s) it's always canceled an icing call when the puck goes through the goal crease (blue paint). Like you said, though, it's very rare that it's going through the paint, but not on net.
And I saw the linesman waving it off at the last second and wonder if the Bruins players didn't see that.
You're right, it was in the rules for the longest time. It was removed (the blue paint thing) a couple years back and no longer affects anything.
This is why I believe the linesman called it off (maybe not being fully aware that the blue paint doesn't nullify the icings anymore, since it happens like once every 10 years)
@@VeggieTart gotta play to the whistle tho
I have to call a misconduct on Steve for wearing a V-neck tee in his 30s. That's a dang-it. 30+ = Crew neck. That's 2 minutes for "you can't do that".
Already got a dangit for next week. Blue-Oilers. Blues assessed a minor for putting the incorrect starting lineup on the ice. Oilers score on resulting power play. 🤦
I LOL'd at the Ranger celly.
steve dangle stresses me out LMAO but i keep watching haha
That Ranger celly looks like my beer league team when we score.
Carolina got called for a high stick on Seattle last night and it was the Seattle players stick
That's Both. If You're A Goaltender, Tend The Goal!, And, If You're A Goaltender With The Lead, Don't Tie The Game! That's A Double Dang It. LOL
With the Rangers celebration Dang-It, it was also a Dang-It for the Devils for getting scored on twice in 17 seconds
Adin Hill made a double dangit on that play. If he stayed out of the goal it never goes in, but when he tries to get back in net he actually hits the puck in with his skate.
Markstrom with his best Quick impression.
That one stings but as a kings fan, I agree lmao
Years ago Dave Maloney was Pissed about a goal. He went to slam stick on goal. He missed. Slammed into John Davidson. Achilles crushed.
9:41 the kid hug with Miller, Laf, Chytil, Kakko and Schneider.
I still think folks got misled by Nash's comments as he himself was just guessing but I thought the linesman waved the icing because he felt the Boston player slowed up and intentionally took a wider/slower path to the puck but could have gotten to it before it crossed the line.
Nah, the linesman is focusing intently on the puck and the second it enters the crease he starts the mechanic to waive the icing.
To be fair, the poor effort here from the defender would have actually been a valid reason to call off the icing
Steve is going to start having a weekly McDavid segment on Hat Picks and a weekly Markstrom segment on Dang Its.
Boy,a hockey stick by a hockey player hit and slash the face? That is worse than football players who is on the same team bicker and fight each other. Also 3 against 0 and failed to score. Thank goodness it was in regulation, not in OT. Unacceptable. Thanks for the hockey bloopers, that deserves to be on the post-game Canada 🇨🇦! Congratulations. Doggone it and On the Fly from the NHL Network (USA) shows great plays. Congratulations.
Dang-it on the Habs, giving Anaheim their second Reg. Win this season, at the Bell Centre after Caufield had gotten 2 goals to comeback from a 2-0 lead. They lost 5-2 (goals 4 and 5 were EN).
I love that Sportsnet left in the 'high sticking, history' reference
It's funny enough that he turned over the puck behind his own goal, but then he kicked it in his own net to boot. Great job, Hill.
Hey, Steve
@ 3:57, add this: Roman Turek suffered a torn ACL in 2003 while in net for the St Louis Blues... Because Barrett Jackman rifled his stick & the puck into the back of his leg while he was getting back to the net 🤦🏼♂️
The incident with Al MacInnis was Al MacInnis on the ice mad and went to smash his stick on the boards and accidentally slashed a teammate and was so beside himself he didn't take a shift I think for the rest of the game.
3:20 "Party Up" playing in the background takes this moment from disappointing to hilarious.
Edit: Holy s*** it's playing again at 5:30! The hockey gods are just toying with us at this point.
I wonder when the "If you're a goaltender, tend the goal" compilation will be released.
I saw a interesting vid with Kaapo Kähkönen. The goalies get instruction from defence when they go behind the goal. Reverse is throw the puck back into the fiery chasm from whence it came. And I forgot the rest. The other's are to push the puck forward or dump from the zone though.
“Up close you can see I have the shade of an overripe banana.” That quote is a Hat Pick.
In that situation where one player gets slashed/takes a high stick from his own team mate, I REALLY want to hear Wes McCauley say "z team player got hit by one of his team mates, there's no penalty on the play, that's a dang it." Or something g similar. Please hockey gods make it happen!
12:58 *When tending the goal goes wrong*
thats icing because it touched the net AFTER the puck crossed the red line and the ref was thinking of the 1970 rulebook were if it goes in the crease its no icing
Yeah that’s a triple dang it on Hill. Gives it away, completely ignores his teammate, then puts it in his own net
How do you not mention the leafs dang it in the 7-0 game vs ducks!? Imagine having an all star player, one of the highest paid players, known as the best goal scorer in the league right now... not even score that game with 7 goals. Thats a dang it
"Friday night in Las Vegas, Golden Knights' goaltender Adin Hill passed the puck to Flyers' center Scott Laughton resulting in a goal. As the video shows, Hill was playing the puck behind his own net and attempted to play it into the corner. With his own teammate, Nicolas Hague to his right, an Laughton to his left, Hill decided to play the puck to the corner on his left. Scott Laughton managed to intercept the corning attempt, resulting in a goal.
This is not 'tending the goal'.
Adin Hill has no previous history in his 85 game NHL career. The Department of 'IF YOU'RE A GOALTENDER, TEND THE GOAL!' has decided to suspend Adin Hill from the area behind the goalline, for five games."
It does effect Fiala stats getting that own goal in OT. He gets a -1 in +/-. :(
The concept of "The worst Teams get the best Draft Picks" makes a lot of sense on paper...
But instead, every year with a strong Draft you end up with a complete circus as half the league competes to see who can suck more... Then Edmonton somehow gets the first overall pick anyway because Edmonton management sold their souls to whoever runs the draft lottery.
They drafted the first overall pick three straight years. How many of those first overall picks are still with the team? Oh, that's right. ONE! Drafting top talent is one thing, but seeing how they'll develop in the NHL is another thing entirely. Hall we ended up trading for a defenseman, instead of drafting one in the 2016 Entry draft. Yakupov was an overrated bust who never found his game in this league.
Automatic captions at 16:25 - "If you're a goaltender, TENTACLE"
Opening monologue 😂
Steve, you're not imagining it. I too remember the game. It was definitely the blues, but I can't remember the players involved. I want to say it was brett hull arguing something with ref when he slammed his stick on the edge of the bench. Reach out to some Blues people because I have spent hours looking and I can't pin it down.
Great breakdown of what happened to the Bruins in AZ.
I'm surprised the Fabbro own goal for Debrincat wasn't on here considering the Fiala one was
Steve PLEASE show the Blues bench minors against the Oilers!
Literally every piece of Steve dangle content this week "btw my 80lb dog broke my nose"
HAT PICK for 12/20 NY Islanders Barsell was called for tripping Cale Makar. Makar waved at the ref that Barsell didn't trip him, he slipped on his own. They waived the penalty off!! I have never saw that before, Go Cale!! ( Last minute in first period)
That Boston Arizona ending was so weird but are we not gonna talk about 𝙏𝙃𝙀 𝙎𝙃𝙊𝙏𝙎 𝙊𝙉 𝙂𝙊𝘼𝙇 𝙄𝙉 𝙏𝙃𝘼𝙏 𝙂𝘼𝙈𝙀?!!
I feel you pain Steve, my 90 lb Old English Sheepdog scratched my eye while I was trying to play at her level one time.... that was a Dang It!
Steve's just showcasing Ottawa off for Ryan Reynolds with all the Sens coverage here.
4:15 I remember someone getting slashed by his teammate the moment he was trying to open the bench door. Definitely from this series as well.
The Avs goal horn going off for a Bruins goal was a funny lil' dang-it this week too
I don’t think the Fiala goal should’ve counted, OR been a dang it. Johnny hockey punched it out of mid air. Kevin fiala never would’ve had to try and save it (and get a tip on it) if it wasn’t punched from mid air. Can’t kick pucks into the net, can’t punch them. Also this would’ve gone in regardless of Kevin fiala’s touch. So goal? No. Dang it? No. Bad call? Yes
I think you missed a dangit from the Sens vs Ducks game when Chartier ran the goalie and they reviewed the play for a couple minutes then somehow call it a goal only for Anaheim to challenge it and get it called back for goalie interference.
@ 14:08 is why for national TV games we have rules analysis.
Anyone else find it fitting that DMX's "Party Up" is playing during the replay of both high sticks?
Thank you for addressing it.
I was nipped on the butt by a German Shepherd foster tonight, no x-rays necessary, but your experience reminded me of the joke about the difference between pipefitters and plumbers.....
A pipefitter puts his ass where a plumber puts their face.
My guy, if you are going to speak of the doggo you must have the doggo in the video.
I now want a "if your a dogtender, tend the dog" t-shirt.
On the icing one the ref probably thought it hit the goalie's pad or stick given the angle he had. You could also argue that the Bruins defensemen probably could have reached the puck before it crossed the goal line had he actually taken a direct line to it instead of giving it a wide berth.
Everyone could go back and forth on icing but Steve youre right, Bruins should play to the whistle. And so that's that Coyotes capitalized haha
I'm surprised the kings allowing 6 goals in the 3rd wasn't a dang it
Bruins fan here, looking for the positives from the Arizona debacle. At least Swayman was tending the goal and letting his defensemen handle the puck. If you're a defenseman, play to the whistle! 🙄
"I think it goes right through that blue paint, so does that negate the icing?" This could be a case of improperly trained officials. The announcers don't even know the rule. That rule changed like 30 years ago.
It’s the Christmas season 😂😂😂
I remember when I started watching hockey, I was freaked out by goalies leaving the net. “How do they know when they can do that?” Turns out they clearly don’t. I strongly suspect the only reason it ever works is that the odds are in favor of it working but not to a high enough percentage that anyone should rely on it.
also the rangers clip was their second goal in...SEVEN SECONDS...to tie a local rival so that added to the hype too
Kind of glad you guys have forgotten about the canes. Left off an amazing save from koochie for the hat picks, it's only fair you leave off the awful line change by svech to lose in overtime for the dang its
