    who tf told you flipping the tank upside down instead of using a siphon tank was "the right way"? This is a great way to break your valve and cause catastrophic situations.

    You can over fill, I got one of my tanks to over 1300g and put it in my sodastream, and about an hr later that protective seal where that bolt is screwed into the side of your tank just below the threads blew. And it then becomes unusable and you'll have to either do an exchange or buy a new bottle. After that I've been filling mine to a max of 1150. Hope that helps ya.

      Were you using a siphon-tube donor tank? I have a regular tank that I invert at 45 degrees, and there is no way I can ever fill up the sodastream cylinder with more than 790 grams of CO2.
      When I first started, I was obsessed with safety, making sure that I didn't overfill the 0.6L cylinder. After a bit more experience and research, I realized that the pressure between the donor tank and the 0.6 L cylinder should equalize, removing any risk of overfilling.

    Thanks, I have not had luck getting more than a small amount of gas out of the Sodastream bottle after filling. Questions. I believe my 5lb. C02 tank does NOT have a Siphon tube, and I have tried this process holding the tank both upside down and right side up. No luck. Finally, the C02 tank I have hasn't been touched in 3 years, although it's full. Could this be the culprit? Thanks in advance.

    I've been using three 20 oz paintball tanks for over 5 years. I use a hanging scale and buy 22 lb siphon tanks for about $22 every from General Air every six months. All you need is the brass SS adaptor for the paintball tanks...then a two valve line to fill the tanks from the big tank..using hanging scale for 20oz...great setup.

    i got the same setup but with the dip tube . didn't work on first try there some kind of valve that closes inside the sodastream top/ after a few tries ?? . it think because the ss tank was completely empty and i tried to fill too fast , when i got a few lbs gas in the ss tank and dump some to chill it worked better .

    In addition to encouraging the use of a 5-10lb Co2 tank, I suggest you forget the idea of refilling those pathetic little Co2 bottles, which are less than 1/6 of the volume of a 5lb tank. The adapter that runs from the Sodastream to the larger Co2 tank is comparably priced to the one Harry is using here, with only a slight design difference allowing for the direct connection to the Sodastream (see Amazon). I also suggest that you purchase your 5-10lb Co2 tanks directly from your local welding / industrial gas supply company, which is where home brew suppliers get them. Save some money and cut out the middle man.

    Actually, the reason you get more CO2 in be releaving some pressure is not because the gas is in the way... It's because degazing CO2 cools down the cylinder, facilitating more CO2 to transition from gaz to liquid phase.

    I jumped the gun on ordering my 20 LBS donor tank and had not realized that the tank would need a siphon tube for my expected use. I don't mind securing the regular donor tank upside down for refilling. However, I am wondering if inverting the tank will be less efficient than using a tank with a siphon tube, resulting in more wasted CO2.
    I also remember someone at my gas refilling company asking me if I will be refilling liquid CO2 or gas CO2. I didn't know there was a difference.

    • @pequodexpress

      @DA LegoFyre! T. Thanks for your reply. It's been a little over a year, and the donor tank is about 4 kg away from needing to be refilled. I have a new valve that will take a siphon tube. When I refill next time, I will have the gas company install the new valve with a siphon tube. I have been inverting only at a 45 degree angle when refilling the 0.6 liter cylinders. This method seems regularly to do a refill of a maximum of about 790 grams of C02.

    The dip tube, limits what you can use your tank for, and add cost and are not needed. The booby trapped valve is the flat valve, and is harder to fill then the pin type valve. I will say, as I now sell refilled bottles and sell them on Amazon, 20% fee, and eBay, 10% fee, that the cost of the equipment, and the time I put in was not worth my time. I moved on to other CO2 adventures in addition to Sodastream. For people with questions contact me through Atlanta Craigslist, just search for CO2, you can't miss finding me.
    To anyone thinking Sodastream is overcharging for their bottles, I can tell you without a doubt they are not. They use "FOOD GRADE" tanks, that inside are like a mirror, open one up to see, UPS fees are very expensive, and retailers make a profit on every tank they sell. So when you add up ALL the cost, Sodastream is a good deal for the customer.
    If you are using paintball tanks, when the next one empties out remove the valve and look inside, the tanks are not clean.
    It takes a long time to pay for the equipment, think about it. co2doctor.com is the place to buy supplies if you still want to.

      @sancop 5 років тому +2

      petec1972 ....hmmm. 17.3x15.99+tx= ~$295 for me. Now, obviously, since the only place I can exchange is Bed, Bath, & Beyond, I can use a 20% off coupon. But considering each trip is 90 miles round trip (ga$), I figure I’m breaking even on coupons. So, I just purchased my first 20 lb tank today, bought my adapter line last week, and after I recover from those purchases (47+187), exchange/refills are only $33 through Airgas. I’m saving about $262 per 17.3 sodastream tanks (that’s a savings of $15.14 per tank)!!!!!!! So based on your fill rate, I’m going to be paying less than $1 per sodastream tank, and no roundtrip!!!!
