Interior design is not even in my field of work (I’m in tech) but I love watching Karin talk about anything work related. She’s sassy and feminine but also carries and conducts herself like a boss. Loved this video!
as an interior designer (shout out to BCIT) after working for very established Canadian designers, Im finally working on my own studio, so this was really informative, thank you!
Hey Karin :) So I finished my architecture degree on September and got a job right before. Since I was just finishing my degree, I was hired to help project managers and mostly to draw the projects. I was fine with this because I don't have a lot of experience in managing projects on my own and was excited to be able to watch others and learn how they do the projects from A to Z. The thing is that about 4 months in, I realized that I wasn’t really helping anyone, in fact I had been given multiple projects to deal on my own and I've been swamped with work. I've been working saturdays and sundays to meet the impossible deadlines that I've been given. My bosses have completely left me to deal with these projects and even though I know it's a huge opportunity since no one would give so much responsibility to a recent graduate, I feel so alone and taken advantage of ! The worst part is that no one ever tells me if I did a good job or a bad job, no one seems to bother to check my drawings or how I’m managing everything with the engineers / clients / city hall etc. And when I say that I'm doing an extra effort and that I don't know how long I can take this, they just say that we (my colleague and I) have to suck it up since we are only 4 people and that it's for the sake of the company and that it will one day pay off… So I wanted to ask you, as someone who started with a small team and worked her way up, did you ever put this much pressure on your employees ? Do you expect that in a small company people have to work harder? Do you have any advice on how can I get myself out of this situation without leaving the firm ?
Karin, you are such an inspiration that i absolutely love to watch. I'm a software engineer not an interior designer, but i watch your content always and get so much value from it. Stay happy, vibrant, beautiful, stylish, inspiring, kind... ❤️
I never regret watching and following this channel. IDr. Karin and the House of Bohn Team never failed to inspire not just me but everyone watching this. This video answered a lot of my "self-doubt" questions. I'm very grateful and I appreciate the effort their team have made for the videos they had done. It's creative! It's inspiring! It's amazing! It's awesome!💝💝💝
Good to be here and listening to your questions and learning a little bit of your story. I am 45 y.o. and now I am very motivated to start what I would love to build. I am always doubting of myself and scares me to make this huge dream come true and build a business. I am planning and creating a story board of what I would like to do. I am a mom of 3 beautiful boys and I work from home for a big Pharma company as Manager and I think I have too much in my plate but I cannot help it, I have a soul of a true entrepreneur. I am a real estate investor, we run a small property management with 6 houses as small business owner is hard to keep a balance. My husband and I have too many property at this moment and we manage them all by ourselves. I am leaning to expand the actual business we are managing...perhaps expanding any new opportunities within the real estate niche. I would explore my new business around redesign and remodeling my current real estates and upper the level of improvement and the interior designs we conduct to the properties once they become vacant. If you read this comment, can you offer me any feedback? Many Blessings. Yana.
It's true that we might have to work for free when we're still building up our career. It's also one way of building a great portfolio. I can relate to that. 😊😊😊
All your videos answered all of my questions running in my head when running an interior design business. I am new to this industry and starting my own by myself. If you could share with us your early days when you just starting up your own interior design business. How do you manage yourself financially, what is the first failure in your business and how you overcome it, and when do you start vlogging Thank you ! 🙏🏻✨🖤
I really appreciate this video. I needed specific questions answered. I’m launching my interior Design business by the first week of June. I’ve been doing a great deal to get ready.
hey, love you!! question: How did you know how to run your business? do you have a business mentor/advisers? managing is not as design, how did you learn to o that??
"Comparison is the thief of joy" - I live and die by that. - 😃 🙋🏽♀️ Karin? You truly feel like my own favourite mirror, often times! I am so grateful and honored for that! What a great video content, originally putted together 🤩👌🏽
A question about team feedback. What happens if it IS personal? If a team member is coming into the office, spreading bad vibes and negativity and is generally a miserable, rude person? It never starts that way, but obviously something has gone wrong either personally or professionally for that individual. (I have been in this situation and it made me not want to go to work, almost causing me to have burn out due to the terrible work atmosphere). How do you know when to intervene or if you need to let that person go? I feel in my case that the person in charge did not at all deal with the situation and it affected everyone else in the team.
Hi Karin, love your videos! So sorry I missed the Q&A submission. I'm Simon and I'm an interior designer myself, based in Malaysia. I want to know if you think or know that you are in a position where clients look for you to do what you do best or you still meet a mix of clients where they still want you to help them do what they want? Or do you practice saying no to clients that might not enhance your portfolio? Thanks! Also, it's super interesting to know that you are not okay with washer dryer being in the closet 🤣
Love your content❤️Made me realize interior design is what I want. What should one look for when applying to a school or college? Do you think places around the world differ in the industry?
Great Q & A Karin! I always take something positive away from your videos. I'm also thinking about selling townhome but I'm not sure where l want to move. Thank you!
Loved the video! I also imagine you are fair and easy to work with. I also wonder why there seems to be high turnover at House of Bohn, or so that's what it seems.
Hello I am a Filipino and Shay is a half Filipino by the way. Anyway, I am starting building a very small mini office with a bedroom on it, and i am so excited to share it to you since I always get lots of ideas from your channel, looking forward of making my dreams into reality, and you as my inspiration on designs and even of course fashion
Hello, House of Bohn, I am an Interior Design student and I am looking for some information about doing an internship with you. Do you have any positions, or do you allow internships from out of the state? Thank you, Kurt

I’ve been doing massage therapy for 13 years and just starting the shift into interior design. I am so excited to start working toward a new goal.
Congratulations
Make sure it’s interior design you want and not interior decor
