  • A friend of mine upgraded the controls on my MakerGear M3-ID 3D printer with parts from BigTreeTech.
It now has an Octopus V1.1 board with 449 chipset and TMC2209 stepper motor drivers, which are much quieter. The screen is a 5" HDMI touchscreen.
It now has input shaper and pressure advance functionality. It can also be controlled from my phone even when I'm away from my wifi network thanks to octoeverywhere.
Cura's auto tower functionality has been very convenient for parameter development, particularly for temperature and fan speed.

This is very interesting. I have been getting ready to revive my own M3-ID in a similar fashion. I have an SKR 1.4 Turbo, which is a bit older than the Octopus line, so I am looking to see if that might be usable for this project without having to invest in a new board. Curious if you have any notes to share on your steps, or anything you learned about “wiring gotchas”, etc? Are you willing to make any of your files for the enclosure available? Are you still using the axis homing switches with the 2209s? Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for your questions. Yes I am willing to discuss but will have to get back to you a later. A friend of mine did the work, so I will need to check with him to verify a few things.
