    Tks man I appreciate all the videos. I’m about 8-10 mths out from my DJS. I knew it was going to be a rough time; but I broke both my hands 8 mths ago; so I roughly know how patience is important.
    You’re also absolutely right about opioids. It was a hard process to get off it during my hand recovery.

      Appreciate ya!
      Tough to break both hands, good you have experience with the strong painkillers.
      I'm currently on day 63 of recovery, and while life is mostly normal, still have some swelling and numbness. After I got my splint out, things got a LOT better (For double jaw surgery, this is usually 6 or 8 weeks post op).
      You'll get through it and I'm sure if you're having DJS the outcome will be worth it.
      Find some good TV shows/movies/books you'll want to watch !!

    You look like you did very well through it all. I have seen some videos where people were swollen and black and blue and it just looked unbelievable and that wasn’t the double jaw surgery.

      Definitely a good idea, although note that I wasn’t mentally at work-capacity for about 2 weeks. While you’re on pain killers and so swollen, you aren’t mentally very sharp

    I was recommended this surgery by my orthodontist for my underbite and slight bite misalignment but presently i have no issues that affect my day-to-day life other than light TMD issues and self esteem. Do you think such a big surgery is worth it?

    • @Jonah_Wilson
      @Jonah_Wilson  Місяць тому

      Honestly, it’s a tough surgery. If it’s a severe bite you need to correct than sure. If it doesn’t affect your sleep / breathing or anything besides aesthetics, probably not worth it unless you really want to change your bite. (Plus it’s expensive)

      @Jonah_Wilson I agree with you. It's actually free for me since I live in the UK, but I've put the process on hold even though I'm halfway through my postop braces. But I'm still worried I might regret it in the future since these problems tend to get worse.

    Just got the lower jaw surgery, still in hospital today is 3rd day post surgery, i have immense swelling, i feel like a baloon. Dr said they going to add elastics and discharge me today. Is the lower jaw surgery a Lil easier or is similar to double jaw surgery.

    • @Jonah_Wilson
      @Jonah_Wilson  2 місяці тому +1

      Jaw surgery on only one side (upper or lower) is easier, and recovery is usually 2x faster.
      I totally get feeling like a balloon. Take pictures every day to track your progress.
      Hope all goes well!

    Hey Jonah love the insights on the videos. Just clarifying is it a pure liquid diet still until week 4? I am currently week 1 post op UJD and I struggle with chewing and opening my mouth. So just curious when I should expect to eat smth slightly chewier like pasta, rice or chili.
    Also, I noticed that it hurts my upper lip area when I try to smile or laugh. When does this kinda go away or did you experience this at all?

    • @Jonah_Wilson
      @Jonah_Wilson  3 місяці тому

      Pure liquid for 6 weeks 😬. I could start doing soft stuff after week 6 when I got the splint out.
      TBH I still have a little pain when I smile to wide (8 months). It goes down significantly though

      @@Jonah_Wilson Thanks for replying! Damn that sounds like a grind tho fr. How did you overcome being "sick" of the liquid stuff or missing solid food or was that kinda just a continuous battle. Why did you get DJS? I was also born with cleft palate and had it repaired as a small child but never had any jaw surgeries.

    • @Jonah_Wilson
      @Jonah_Wilson  9 місяців тому

      I got DJS because I had severe sleep apnea (confirmed by a sleep study, average of 52 "episodes" where I stop breathing an hour). I couldn't get it until now, being 23, because they had to wait for all my growth plates to fuse and I guess I was a late bloomer
