Hi Louise, what is the model of microscope and camera that Paul work on, doing this repair?
Louis is losing his best employee. Paul good luck with your future endeavors. I subscribed to your channel and hope to see more of what you will be doing next.
Best of luck to Paul setting up on his own. He's been a massive asset to Louis' business and deserves success.
Always start your repair by touching the esd safe cat. Mr Clinton maintains his ESD certification.

Good luck with your business, Paul. As people have been saying from Louis' channel: "you got this!"
@Jason Bourne I think Steve is, Paul isn't, though.
Great to hear you're going to open your own business Paul.
Really looking forward to it.
Thanks for all the small tips and tricks you're sharing with us each time.
Paul I'm sorry to hear you're not moving to TX but I will be subscribing to your new channel and following. Best wishes from far away (Melbourne)
Since you’re leaving and setting up your own shop, I’ve subscribed to your channel, Paul.
Thank you! Hopefully I'll have the same variety of content into the future, electronics repair, photography, and automotive.
Im an electrical engineer for automotive parts and honestly, it seems to be very rare that even a Ford Master Tech has a remote idea of how even an ECU works internally. I watch these videos as it helps me get new process ideas for automotive parts, and i rarely work on pc components now, but its interesting that Paul was an automotive mechanic beforehand
Also I have a Russian Blue and he is the most personable cat I’ve ever had, he’s honestly more like a dog as far as his personality goes
Paul, wishing you all the best with your new endeavors. I have loved watching your repairs and admire your focus and patience. Rahway is a great place to be. Give it time, you'll rock your new path!
Paul, it will be a journey and I'm sure you will be successful. You are the man with respect to MacBook repair. I found your channel and will tune in for the repairs.
Using a mini grinding pen works amazing for removing the coating on the flex cable. You can even grind away the tip of the copper trace, I found trying to cut the tip extremly difficult. Practice on the no good piece first!
Wishing you ALL the best Paul, you are a very special kind person.
i love cars and computers - I think I am going to enjoy PaulS streams
I am glad I got to meet Paul for a couple of minutes just when you all moved in to the new location. Shame Steve was still at the old one that day and couldn't see him again, as we share the same field now in data recovery.
Good luck with your next aventures Paul.
I can feel for everybody here. I remember talking to Steve and Louis about how difficult is to find actually good people that work properly... and it is more ridiculous here in Spain...
Great video Paul. I've been wondering for a long time how this one was repaired. Great approach. Thanks for sharing.
Wow. Such awesome little tips, hints and general comments. I subscribed to your youtube channel. I look forward to learning more as time goes by. Thanks Paul.
Looking forward to your new channel.Your work is incredible. 👍
I really enjoyed the 2 hours spent on your streaming. Great job! From Italy.
Paul, you're incredible. I wish you much luck!
@1:53:39 i can fell this man's emotions. I know Louis will miss you or at least I will 🙂
Thanks 🙏
Paul, 祝你一切顺利 谢谢你
Excellent video!!!
I despise Macs, I have no soldering expertise and yet, I watched the whole thing.
Now we will get on Pauls chanel the serch for a new Shop? Real estate in New Jersey.
I'm hoping that will come in a year or so, as soon as the business proves it makes enough. For now I will be working out of my home.
@@A2000MHz Your content isn't less interseting as Louises. not only because your work seems more profesional.
Thank you for this excellent video.
I'm about to approach this repair myself, as I'm in europe & no shops in my country wants to do this.
What I find is that there are many suppliers of the flex-cable, so I wonder which one that you are using. (I found the ifixit one and a number of them on ebay).
As you are not selling it on your webpage, would it be possible that you link to the replacement-flex cable that you are using?
Thanks so much, Jacob
Yup. We also love Paul. Will subscribe as soon as you have a channel, Paul!!

Hi, thumbs up for a great video 👍. I have a MacBook Pro 15” 2018 A1990 which I had to detach the screen completely because the original screen is broken and working on and external monitor. As a result the keyboard backlight is not working. Is there a way to force it on. Like pulling a certain pin voltage up or down and or something to be done ☑️ n the backlight circuitry to turn it n? Thank in advance :)
Hope yall do well with the business moving and all!
I'm curious peoples opinion regarding the Studio Display, specifically on the vent holes placed at the top flat level of the aluminum exterior. Should we be worried about dust accumulating right through the top of the monitor??
My old imac top was smooth and collected a lot of dust. I was grateful there weren't any vent holes there. That machine lasted 11 years. Will a can of air really get it clean in there? Is it safe to vacuum the top if it is unplugged?
Paul, I wish you success.
Note that building test parts inventory is pretty harsh, if you have the opportunity to buy a starter batch from RRG it could be interesting and save you a lot of time.
Paul I hope that people realize just how tiny those connections that you soldered really are! Micro soldering for sure!
My mac is flexgate. I had to replace a screen. $250 used on ebay
41:18 answer about chemicals or heat.
Answer is YES, there are products out there which will help “dissolve” this coating, as will for heat…does “soften a bit”; but the issue is….will end up delaminating the flex cable itself and that’s no bueno.
I noticed you work from right to left. Isn't it easier to work from left to right so you do not have to reach over the work you have already done? I have a feeling that would reduce the risk of accidently touching the earlier work. Or doesn't it matter?
I have the same issue on the same a1707. What is the cost for you all to repair this?!
Yo Louis get this,
Put my 2021 MacBook into repair. USB-C port got water damaged so they had to take the logic board apart. They charged me £232 to fix it, and I said no - send it back unrepaired. Turns out they couldn't put a corrugated USB-C port back onto the Logic Board, so I forced them to fix my whole laptop for free.
Eat my heart out.
You should use an iphone to photograph the motherboard. Use colour gradients to see damage .
Why aren't you replacing the whole cable? Is the replacement still too short?
I think it is next to impossible to do that as the display assembly cannot be taken apart without risking major damage and the other side of the cable runs into the display assembly.
I have to credit you for how you show respect for Louis i wish you all the best luck with your new business
Paul, do setup a page we can send some love your way
How come you seem so much out of breath ? I would check that , try breathing deep in and out regularly. Thanks a lot for sharing this, doesn't this also happen on the cables with screen data?
What is the name of that cable 1:15:48
Just to make it make sense, the motive behind doing this as a skill intense splice instead of as a plug in replacement is that Apple made accessing the panel end of this ribbon even less practical than doing all this?
Louis what are your thoughts about "Samsung's Repair Mode" on phones. I see a looot of people praising it of course people that have no clue about repairing. I've saw comment's that made me sad for the future of Right to repair :-/
Hi Paul Bafang
Is this why all the plastic is over the tables as Louis is moving out of NYC?
no, I think he mentioned in a video it's to prevent dust from settling when the stuff is not in use.
@@DanielHeuwinkel Ah right.
9:11 - Yeah, this is basic stress testing 101. Did they not even do an open/close stress test on these? Wow.....
That's OBVIOUSLY a design flaw, and 100% should be covered under long-term warranty claims. What absolute BS.
38:29 fiberglass pencil debris “should” light up under a black light or up light so can find in finger; if not too deep. Should is keyword, oddly, sometimes doesn’t, and not a clue as to why.
But yeah, it sucks and why I wear gloves doing this…..even though hate wearing gloves, & shouldn’t have to explain as to “why”, lol
I took a look at my scratch pen under uv light, sadly this one is not florescent. Would be really useful if it was!

ua-cam.com/channels/3I2VGluHnEYmslh4kZj3nQ.html
If apple had used their best engineers, the new cable would have a different order of traces than the old one so that you cannot fix it like this :D
Paul was playing with his life over there ..
600dollars for a screen which means Paul despite the surgical technique and breathing control, can only charge a fraction of that to make it viable - very admirable
Are there any lawsuits against Apple concerning the A1706, A1707 (I have one) and A1708 MacBook Pro's???? This was clearly a design fault by Apple !!! My A1707 laptop has no working webcam anymore and I fear for the loss of the backlight due to Flexgate!!!
Hey! Rewrote this comment $325 for one side $425 for 2 sides Or wait for Paul in his basement for $100 less on each
I've had a 15" 2017 Macbook Pro for years that I've absolutely babied, in fact hardly used in the "open" position for most of its life until 2 years ago when the keyboard died, then the screen started cutting off. Now its relegated to desktop use. An absolute piece of shit from Apple.
I don't understand why people are paying that much money to repair such a shitty computer.
People just sell your oven mac as is or part it. Instead of paying someone to repair it add another $400-$500 and buy an m1 MBA. They're crazy cheap and much faster than Intel garbage macs. You can buy a refurb directly from Apple for $750-800 plus one year warranty.
