      Music is collaborative, especially with the crazy technology and techniques we have now. Like the 3 fingers thing is honestly not that advanced but it's just one of those things that people don't do on harp lol so when she sees it, it's awesome. Just like the muted strings thing he was doing. Who thinks to mute strings on a harp to play different intervals. Obviously she loves experimenting with different things on her instrument considering her awesome pedal layout so it seems right up her alley to learn these new techniques.

    Harp is one of the few instruments that sound so good that beginners, practicing, actually sound, if not great, at least good. When I used to play I’d sit out on my deck to practice, until it started to get too cold. A month or so after I’d moved practice indoors I met my neighbor outside and she said she missed hearing me practice. I apologised and said I hoped I hadn’t disturbed her and she was like “oh no, it was lovely. I miss it” it was nice to hear as a beginner lol

      most harpists are actually quite chill about it.
      its almost impossible to transport these things without slowly accumulating damage to the finish. so unless its very new chances are the new car feels actually last far shorter than on a guitar.

    I think the important take away here is “do stuff that will make your harp teacher mad” lol. Once you’ve mastered the proper techniques it’s fine to break the rules. I feel like that’s particularly true with classical instruments. The classical world is very gate keepy but stepping outside of what’s considered proper can lead to some incredible results.

    • @mal2ksc
      @mal2ksc 2 роки тому +7

      I don't see any harm in borrowing right hand guitar techniques for use on harp, except for noting that the two hands are almost interchangeable (not as much reach on the bass side for whichever shoulder the harp rests on) so you kinda have to learn each technique twice to really have it mastered. Just being able to do it with one hand would still be a massive upgrade from not doing it at all though.
      If guitars can borrow harp harmonics, then harps can borrow guitar plucking. It's only fair. That also means Emily is allowed to use a Miku pedal, doomharps are honorary guitars now.

    THAT SOUND at 18:28-18:55. It's so Hans Zimmer, it instantly reminds me of his recent Dune soundtrack (which won an Oscar BTW).
    In an interviews, Zimmer talks about trying to create entirely new sounds which sound neither like real instrument nor like synths or anything else or and this is EXACTLY IT.

    Okay, I know I'm late to the Party but I need to add this. Because after a long break from Rob, I watched this and I felt encapsulates perfectly why he (and his team) is one the most inspiring guitar youtubers out there. He always has a genuine interest in not only the featured artist but in the presented instruments. His curiosity is always mixed with respect for the artist and their instrument. He ALWAYS adds something to the instrument, be it applying techniques from other instruments or when he freestyles. You can always sense that his talent is not used to show off but fueled by his interest to create sound. There is a segment in this video that perfectly sums up his relationship to sound. It starts at about 11:18 where you can see that his body and mind is captured by the wall of sound that hits him and at 11:46 where he almost can't control the joy of this experience. I know this sounds completely over the top, but I had to get this out. This whole channel is such a gift. Thank you very much.
