Sonic Colors Ultimate Finally Broke my Spirit - RadicalSoda

- Sonic Colours Ultimate is the most unrelentingly rushed, unfinished, sorry excuse for a video game that I've ever seen exiting SEGA's orifices, which includes Sonic 06 and Sonic Boom. In this three part series we'll be looking through Colours Ultimate in extreme detail, showing you just how hard they didn't work on this "remaster".

More people need to be talking about how terrifying the “patch it later” mentality is.
Yes. The bane of all AAA/AA titles.
Die hard sonic cultists don't help either
It’s been the most annoying thing since around 2017. It’s been the biggest turn on when a game releases in a great state and has zero to no glitches
As well as the, "Oh, at least people can make mods on this and make it better." Like, don't put it on modders to fix a crappy game for you. I seriously hate that.
@@D44RK_Iced_Yogs Hence why I love Nintendo games (outside their sports titles)
Honestly, the whole “we can just patch it later” stopped being a valid excuse after the seizure glitches in the switch version.
honestly a bad mentality to have ever
The whole, 'release a barebones game with barely any content and have free updates afterward', is another bad trend that has popped up recently.
What happened to normal game development?
@@JustinJarzab I would say I have no idea why that trend caught on, but I have a feeling that we all know.
It's the 'fans' along with the tight deadlines the people in charge hold over developers heads because of "profit". They just aren't allowed to take their time and finsih the damn game because it has to be put by *that date* and any time it gets delayed their bosses are probably standing over their heads like "you better have this out by then, I don't care if it's not polished".
Speaking of delays, the large ammount of 'fans' who quite litteraly threaten to kill people when a game is delayed aren't helping the situation.
Honestly imo a game shouldn't even be announced until it's almost complete, but that's my highly subjective opinion. And I'm sure the higher ups at companies would absolutely laugh at it.
How about Pro Skater 5 where the v1.0 of the game was just the demo and the Day 1 patch was the rest of the game? This was back in 2015!!!
@@muizzsiddique From what I recall, I believe that one was because the developers had to stop making the game as soon as the Tony Hawk license ended, which led to that mess of a game
What a patch should be for: Minor graphical bugs, maybe fixing an occassional crash or two that was missed.
What a patch should NOT be for: The game being an unfinished pile of wank.
I mean FFXIV, No Man's Sky and Yooka-Laylee got redeemed, but yes.
@@CarbonRollerCaco These are the few that did make it.
FFXIV had a long path ahead of itself and we have yoshi-p to thank for Eorzea being as great as it is now. No Man's sky has been again, years of dedication and toiling before people gave it a shot.
ANd i don't know a damn thing about Yooka laylee.
But most of the redeemed are games that either had a company hinge on them (their biggest release) and or were a live service.
Sonic Colors Ultimate is one game of many entrusted to yet another subpar to bad studio.
Shit's gonna remain half baked.
Blimey!
Can't help thinking about how the original Doom had to be patched shortly after its 1993 release because its rushed network code _ravaged_ entire university LANs.
@@CarbonRollerCaco "redeemed" doesn't make them not accountable for shitting on people.
I agree with you, the whole mentality of "it's fine, it'll be patched later" is just freaking stupid 'cause a lot of these bugs shouldn't have been in a commercial release in the first place.

@@nman551 and Sega will be like: its not our fault so here refunds!
"Ah, yes, we'll give you a port alright!"
The sheer horror on my face when I first saw that opening cutscene was indescribable and probably the most visceral reaction I've had to a game in a long time. That's not an exaggeration.
Same. I was at a legitimate loss for words when I saw that and that's something I usually only say as hyperbole! Lagging FMVs is something I'd expect from an unoptimized emulator, not an official remaster. What happened here????????
Seriously, me too. That's something I'd see on an old PS2 disc. Not a PS4 game, let alone running on a PS5! There's just straight up no excuse for that sort of thing, like I don't care if it's patched later on, how is it like that the *first* time around!?
Same. It's a fucking mp4 or smth lol.
Despite me being someone who doesn't really give big reactions on games, the choppiness of the cutscenes in that game left me flabbergasted with how bad it was. I don't get surprised a lot when playing a game I have or haven't seen before, but I've SEEN the original colors and holy shit the remastered cutscenes left me feeling in awe, confusion, and anger; How did they fuck up THIS BAD?
@@Fighter_Builder what happened is a 3rd party company separate from Sega remastered there game and Sega was busy working on frontiers so they just let it go.
"We'll fix it in a patch" immediately makes me worried that what they really mean is "we will use the launch of the game as a justification to push the devs into insane amounts of crunch because obviously we've got to rush those first fixes. Obviously this will make them work harder and be more cost efficient than just extending the deadline."
last i heard sega allowed the game to be delayed by a year after the devs said they were having issues with the game so
@@TokyoDrift456 Then explain this. Also, I worked as an associate producer in the games industry for 13 years, trust me, the first guy is 100% right.

Blind Squirrel is _NOT_ a good team at all, at best, they’re porters and at worst, Sonic Ultimate, they’re infamous for _lying to their publisher/not letting them see the process/straight up scamming now, underpaying their developer even more so than usually, mass firing, horrible work culture, insane crunch time, horrible management_ and overall, lying to their own developers
@@James-oj6ru this explains how everything went wrong
This is how all games should be reviewed, good on you for taking a stand
I don't agree with what he said but i respect the "stand"
I think day 1 patches are fine since they smooth out small issues right away. But all the other big patches should have just been part of the game from launch
Ship it in a state that is fully playable and functional or delay it and get it fixed. I'm well past gettin my game, comin home, and then spending the next 3 hours downloading the other half of the game they didn't bother to implement before shipping. For those defending this practice, look at how Tony Hawk turned out. The final game in the series was so utterly broken without a day one patch you couldn't do anything with it and if the servers go bye-bye then you no longer have a patch to get so the game remains permanently unplayable and broken ie. you cant preserve the game or go back to it without those files being somehow preserved with it. Its a poor business practice and one that shouldn't be rewarded, defended, or encouraged.
@@zoltarservin510 do you mind elaborating?
I mean he’s reviewing it from an outdated personal experience if he considers none of the patches. There is an inherent logical fallacy to saying you don’t like something without giving it the benefit of updated information.
I want to find it funny that you’ve had your spirit broken but I feel more sad that anything.
No one should lament the fall of a franchise they love.
Agreed
Tbf, the franchise is amazing, they’ve got a strong community and has a great character. Just sucks that the games aren’t up to par with what they used to be and they aren’t using all the titles they have. JSR was a great game but Sega literally wouldn’t allow for a relicensing when the producer came back from working for another company, it was so bad he literally made a new project just like JSR. It’s just disappointed not sad, you still have so many great games and adaptations of Sonic, they just don’t know how to make a good one to save their life
It’s…sonic…
I think you mean something like "No one should find humor in the fall of…".
I had that moment with the Ratchet and Clank series.
Until Rift Apart.
And even then, the series seems to have the same problems it's had as of late. Feels bad man.
Its easy to forget sometimes that a lot of people either live without good internet or don't take their machines online at all. For some, the disc version IS the definitive version. Even if the number of offline players is too small to matter, the Day 1 version is still the only version of the game that literally everyone who buys it will play. Good on you for being more accommodating in your reviews than the industry is with its consumers.
And good on you for making this observation that SERIOUSLY needs more awareness. 👍
Yup, i cant afford wifi or online passes but it still baffles me how easily people accept shit jus bc its the “norm” now

3:31 damn I was always skeptical that Rad and Bear Grylls were the same people, but thank you Rad for getting rid of my skeptism
One thing that should be brought up more about “Ship first, patch later,” is that the patch has to be downloaded from an online server.
And when those servers are inevitably killed off, you basically get stuck with a bug ridden, barely functioning mess… assuming the game even has enough data to even boot of course.
While true, Im positive people archive these patches. Same way with how Jailbreaking consoles has firmware versions saved online. Not saying we should allow this, but there is an option

Anyone else miss the days when games were released finished? Not just half finished, not just partially finished. Finished, finished. The game you are paying for, not a mound of dog dirt that then gets polished ages down the line.
i miss those days
That's not necessarily true, games have always been released with game breaking bugs, because there's always something that's gonna fly under the radar (look at the n64 zelda games for example, those games are full of small glitches that probably would have been patched in a day 1 update if that was possible at the time)
But there lies the true issue, instead of making day 1 patches (or heck patches in general) to patch out small bugs that flew under the radar, even after intense testing, instead AAA developers now use them as excuses to release barely finished messes
@@zepic3895
Yeeeeeeaaaah...no, sorry buddy, those games were still finished in their entirety and functional. Yes there existed game breaking glitches, but those were almost always ones you kinda had to go out of your way to find, or rarely happened at all. Like you said, they always had glitches that would fly under the radar, but the difference is that back then they had the thought and effort to TRY finding them, they found a lot of the biggest issues, cleaned them out, and when they shipped it? Chances are the few glitches left were out of the way or generally rare.
@@ramenbomberdeluxe4958 that's what I'm saying, there's always glitches that fly under the radar, but instead of taking the most you can before shipping the game, developers just now ship unfinished games

The only thing SEGA has over other game companies is how effectively they can gaslight their fandom into believing what's barely the bare minimum is a miracle of quality.
Well to be fair, it doesn't have that over Nintendo.
@@ChrisStoneinator People are STILL on that Nintendo v SEGA bs?
Also no. Nintendo doesn't need to gaslight anyone about quality because their games are actually playable. Even when there's updates, at least they've been a little extra content instead of having to fix the broken base game like SEGA has been with this.
@@anothergamer112 THANK YOU!
It’s really sad how often the Sonic fandom allows SEGA to walk all over them nowadays. Sonic fans seem to just forget that just because SEGA allows Sonic fan games to exist and shows some support to Sonic fan projects, they’re still a soulless giant multi-million dollar corporation that isn’t their friends. This abysmal excuse for a “remaster” got off WAY too easy in my opinion as I barely see many big UA-camrs or Sonic fans talk about this dumpster fire in a negative light. No joke, there were plenty of Sonic fans on Twitter that were actually THANKING Sega for doing the absolute bare freaking minimum by announcing patches for the glitches in this garbage “remaster”.
I am surprised because I saw a decent number of videos calling this game out, I am surprised there are defenders. Thought I assume many think the worse of the glitches were from improper emulation as opposed to the actual game.

13:18 I just realised that, as far as the Radicalsoda "lore" is concerned , Incredibazinga and BearGrylls had never met before this
To be honest, it's just insane how SEGA allowed this for release... It must've taken a lot of bribing to get the IGN score to 8
Game companies now probably spend more on bribing reviewers than on the actual games.

@@AzureRoxe To be honest, they just keep up the "fan-friendly" appearance by passing the low-bar that is Sony, Nintendo and (partially, they were worse when the Xbone launched) Microsoft

I love Sonic Colours but man was this depressing. Even got hit with a glitch that made my game unplayable until I deleted my save file.
Whether you like or hate Sonic Colours, it was a complete game at launch. Seeing the Ultimate version be the complete opposite is ironic and sad
Sonic Colors to me is just okay. 6/10 in my opinion. A lot of the level design is just blocks and there should be more 3D than 2D. Unleashed and Generations did it right. And even in Generations the 2D sections are far less and way better made, so Ultimate should have re-worked the level design like Generations.
@@jesuspernia8031 I can get that criticism for Colours. It's my favourite Sonic game and even I don't call it a 3D Sonic game, though I also refuse to call Generations a 3D Sonic game either because half of the game is entirely in 2D in Classic Sonic and Modern Sonic still has 2D sections in it even if less than Colours. I don't mind the blocky repeat levels too much (even though I rather them be optional levels) because at least they only last at most 2 minutes.
@@jesuspernia8031 The blocky level design doesn't bother me because the overall level design had the most branching routes I've seen in a modern Sonic game
@@BlackKyurem5 I think the biggest problem with the 2D sections is that there's too many stop-and-go sections with the platforming. It's what Marble and Labyrinth Zone were criticized for. Not very Sonic like.
@@RobotGlovesArt Modern Sonic in Generations has the most branching routes in modern Sonic.
Releasing games in a broken state is so common that it took someone releasing a broken version of a game that was released about a decade ago to really put it into perspective.
20:00 fun fact: those reused acts was originally planned to be mission stages, that consist to play the exact same acts with some few changes on the level design, just like on Sonic Unleashed.
My guess is Sonic Team decided to turn those mission stages into regular acts so that people wouldn't complain that Colors was too short compared to Unleashed.
yup thats exactly why it happened
Yeah that's why some of the stages in Unleashed and Colors feel so short compared to other lengthy stages.
The issue is that in doing this, they effectively wrecked the game. At least for me.
@@lpfan4491 Honestly that's the main issue with Colors. It's not the writing, or the "wisps" (I mean come on guys the Wisps were actually great in Sonic Colors, it's overused in other games like Classic Sonic being good in Generations and trash in Forces), it's not the fact that the game takes place mostly in 2D, or the "blocky platforming", it's the act structure. Originally, this game would've had 2 main acts, like Colors DS, which are around the same length as Generations Modern Sonic stages, and said main acts feature a great mix of 2D and 3D, with platforming that's usually disguised well with the environment. The gimmicky, shorter acts were just missions that weren't supposed to be mandatory, like Generations Missions. What's even worse is that 50% of the main acts got cut in 2 smaller acts, and the game suffers as a result. Had Colors had it's original act structure, the game would've honestly been as good as games like Unleashed and Generations, but akin to more of a "casual" Sonic experience, like the classic games, where you pick up and play the game for an hour and beat it, always having a great time and refining your play-through each time. Colors wouldn't have this whole "blocky, 70% 2D game" that people always talk about. It's a shame Colors never got it's act structure fixed in Ultimate, it would've caused way more people to know about why there are jarring 20 second acts you find through each world, and how the main acts are some of the best levels we got in any Sonic Game.
Sorry for going on for so long.
@@bonzaithehost7643 I personally disagree and think it would still be inferior to the boost-portion of its predecessor(Unwiished).
But yeah, it would be 100 times better.
Yeah, even after the patches, the loading times on the PS4 version are still miserable.
I know because I was stupid enough to go back and get all the red rings AND go through the Egg Shuttle mode, and that's a LOT of loading screens to sit through. Yeah, it's still not as bad as the loading times in Sonic '06, but considering that the Wii version of colours, the version that we're supposed to believe is 'inferior' as of now, loads significantly faster... there's just no excuse.
Xbox one also loads really slow, like over 10 seconds per loading screen? Seriously, the development of this game was horrid (mainly due to blind squirrel higher up and management being terrible and on par with activison blizzard, and sega just giving up and releasing the game in the state it is in).
You guys havent seen anything yet, the switch load times are about on par with 06s
Playing on a Series X off of an external HDD, maybe using the internal ssd would improve the load times but I feel like the HDD shouldn't be slower than a Wii disc drive.

15:20 oof~ and from IGN of all people. you know: The people who let some rando say "Sonic was Never Good".... except when he is but also when he isn't.
IGN: they don't know what to say about games.
If they think that a 8/10 rating will be a great apology for the mistakes they have done, well it is not working and it never will.
They literally had one job. Make it play on other platforms. Literally changing nothing else about it would’ve been better than what happened.
if you mean a direct port, that wouldnt have worked, since a lot of things about the game were tied directly to the framerate
@@TokyoDrift456 that's a big thing lots of people don't understand about "just porting the old game." You're not just copy-pasting old code, you have to emulate the system it was designed for as well to keep it accurate.
Ok I was NOT expecting “Tails” to move there with your editing xD well done, freaked me out
Sega certainly has a track record lately of their remasters/remakes, From Nocturne to Banana Mania to this sewage to the upcoming Orgins.
All four have atrocious monetization/pricing and plenty of business controversies, and Banana Mania and Ultimate are actively worse than the originals in many ways.
Being a SEGA fan is suffering.
I'm curious, what happened with Nocturne, currently playing the original version, didn't know there was an HD remaster until I was like 10 hours in.
Edit: Read the reviews on steam and holy crap, that's pretty sad.
I feel like this is the punishment for accepting bad quality games over two decades.
The fact that Sonic 06, one of the worst games of all time was still successful really says alot.
The ability to download patches is the greatest/worst thing, on one hand it allows them to give us more content of the game like smash ultimate DLC for example, on the other hand it gives an excuse for companies to release an unfinished product with the notion of “oh we’ll just pass it out later7
Patches should only be for balancing and the odd bug, it shouldn't be used as a crutch to release unfinished games.
Sadly I'm just some guy so i can't change the industry
*@Khyon* I would argue that patches were a bad thing even for Smash Bros Ultimate because of how many there were to the point of making the game too big for its own good. The Switch itself only has 32 GB in internal memory, so with Smash Bros Ultimate taking up close to 16.3 GB, that's half of the Switch's internal memory and less room for other games. That leads to people having to spend extra money in buying Micro SD cards in order to fit in more games, along with their updates. That's exactly why Radicalsoda streamed Colors Ultimate and Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl unpatched since he was unable to update those games with little memory space on his Switch and he also wanted to play the games as they were originally released.
@@BrokenAce1295 i understand what you're saying but that's not really the patches fault. Say they released the full game, then it should have the same size including the patch. Anyways size isn't something i was talking about.
@@azure4622 Actually, it is the patches' fault, or at least partly, since the game should've been released in its finished state without people not only having to resort to buying more SD cards, but also needing to have Wi-Fi access in order to repetitiously update the game with its patches. Some may not have good enough Wi-Fi access, so they're out of luck when it comes to keeping the games up to date. It's also the fault of Nintendo for making the Switch have little memory space in its internal memory to fit a number of games in it. Also, for your information, I wasn't talking to you in the first place, I was talking to Khyon. Read carefully before posting next time.
@@BrokenAce1295 ah wait, i was thinking digital only. Yeah i completely agree because of the fact physical releases exist that should've never happened.
When this game was releasing, I saw the 8/10s, got hopeful that they didn’t screw up the remaster, but then I saw everyone else talking about it online…
And my heart sank. This is one of the biggest lows for the franchise.
Game companies going “it’s fine, I’ll patch it later” is like when writers give themselves ‘put in dramatic action scene’ notes in underdeveloped chapters. They still write a finished book before they publish it!
"What's the first thing you think of when I say 'Sonic Colors?'"

Having recently finally played it to 100% myself (PS4 version on PS5), I can safely say that after patches it's fixed a lot of the issues, some issues are still there but it's now a perfectly acceptable port, so in other words it's what it should've been at launch now lol. As you said, it being patched does not excuse the state it came out in and I really hate how that's just accepted now, even in its current state you're still arguably better off emulating the original Wii version.
the developing company is know for this among their employees, lying to the publishers and being shit at resource managment, and also pulling this "release now fix later" shtick
@@TokyoDrift456 Doesn't excuse sega for working with them. It's pretty obvious sega wanted the remaster to be cheap.
@@sezunemizuhana3870 as far as they were concerned they could do a good job, given they had a pretty good track record at remastering games, seeing as their previous work got good reviews
Hey man! Glad to see you uploading again :) Been a fan since Generations Level Mods (how was that already 4 years ago?!) Anyway, I just wanted to compliment you on your work for this episode. The writing, editing, acting, and most importantly, the jokes were all top notch. I'd gladly take less frequent episodes if it means quality to this standard. Keep up the good work!
Honestly, the only problem i see with this “play games unpatched” thing is that people who skip the intro and go straight for the first bit of gameplay don't know you're playing unpatched, so they believe that this is just what the game is, updates and all. The only way to get around this is to constantly say that the game is unpatched throughout the review.
Or people with bad internet, or people with not enough storage space
Never been this happy with a Notification, glad to see you back Funny Soda Man.
Colors Ultimate remains one of the worst Sonic games I've ever played. The amount of glitches and idiotic design choices is insane.
The original version is much better because it's less broken and has more pleasant lighting honestly. But I guess that colors ultimate is at least a way to experience that game on other consoles than the Wii and Wii u. The customisation feature was cool though.
Ok
No
I rather play SA1 from the steam with NO mods over "uLtImAte." Mainly because the writing is better than the meta era fornite cringe.
I rather play og 06 ps3 version over "uLtImaTe."
I rather play Sonic Chaos over "uLtImaTe." Ah ya get it now.
@@veggsbacon1891 at least Sonic 06 and the pc port of SA1 didn't cause any seizures. I know that colors ultimate was patched but this shouldn't have been an issue in the first place.
7:19 you know what's even worse, on the Wii they always face the screen so this doesn't happen 🤣
The new intro hit me hard. Was expecting that "nostalgia" rollercoaster intro, not the ULTIMATE version! Also, nice one-hand Sonic Heroes box flip, that was smooth.
I’d realistically only agree with the “patch it later” mentality if it’s an Indie game or a studio doing something they’ve never done before.
NOT FOR A REMASTER THAT ADDS MORE GLITCHES THEN THE ORIGINAL
"Blue streak speeds by... AAGH!"
Starting off strong! 🤣
All this does is upsets me more that Rob and his friends aren't singers
I don’t usually make comments like these, but this upload was super well timed for me. You’re one of my favorite UA-camrs and I was feeling pretty sick today, so seeing an upload from you today after so long felt really nice. Keep on keepin on Rad. 👍
Gotta say, review aside, that section from 5:12 - 6:45 is so well composed. I was rolling over bits you did for the stuttering and the exposure.
You know what is the worst part about this port? The fact that there was actual good stuff in this mess of a port. Seriously, this port has so much lost potential. Metal sonic was originally going to be playable (presumably through clearing all rival rushes), the jade wisp ghost is a great new addition but is buggy, the perfect homing mechanic is actually really good (though kinda annoying from what some claim?), the act structure didn’t get restored to the original 2 big acts and 3 optional side missions, the control scheme never got enhanced for controls similar to unleashed/generations, the remixed music is a mixed bag, the sound mixing is awful (surround sound could’ve been really cool, but instead it’s STUPID sound…). The new shaders could’ve been cool but the reworked lighting just butchers the original artstyle and makes the game look worse in general. In the end, I still enjoyed the port with the customization (but there needs to be more/better customization options for park tokens…) but even still the original is far better due to better visuals, faster loading times, and overall just more polished. A shame, as this game could’ve been such an easy win and make Sonic Colors on par with the best sonic games (the formula is there, it just needs to be taken to the next level).
I’m sorry for going on so long, this is what happens when you disappoint a major fan of Sonic Colors.
there was also a planned online time attack mode, where you could race people's ghosts and stuff
@@TokyoDrift456 Man, I would've played the hell out of that. I can beat Egg Shuttle in under an hour, and it'd be awesome pushing my skills to the limits in a game that is pretty easy otherwise. Also explains why the leader boards in Colors Wii are strangely absent in Colors Ultimate.
The perfect homing attack is annoying because it’s a super high pitched noise in a game with poor sound porting.
@@autosaver i like the noise, its kinda satisfying, even if the shit sound mixing makes it louder than it has any right to be

Bro I haven't seen Radical video's in YEAR'S. And I gotta say. I had a good time watching this. This was so damn hilarious I honestly miss watching his video's Lol
Dont forget to mention that Sonics Jumphight is incorrect!
(Its somehow influenced by the FPS, which means that his Jumps are too Low on the Switch and too high on PC)
a lot of things in the original game were tied to fps, since it was locked to 30 and all, they could get away with that
The fact that a game’s “remaster” STARTS OUT worse than the original, and doesn’t even fix the previous bugs is pathetic beyond belief.
Thank you for letting me arrange your new intro theme! Looks great, all put together!! 💙
19:45 oh thank god. That’s part of what made me stop playing. Now I can go back and finish it

That is a very nice Wii
Funny enough, I recall the Switch version's opening running perfectly at launch
He said this at the beginning of his stream last fall.
One thing I don’t understand about the Switch port is just how little time they spent optimizing it. Skyward Sword was also a 480p 30fps Wii game and it got a Switch port that ran at 1080p 60fps. Now sure this is a third party game and a fast paced one too so I’d expect it to not be 1080p but i at least expected it to be 60fps.
Also with how ~~Sonic~~ rushed this game is, I bet they only did one day of play testing. It would explain how bad the pre patch state of the game was.
The Switch can handle even bigger upgrades. Remember Wind Waker HD on Wii U? The reason why Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword HD weren't as big of upgrades is because Nintendo outsourced them to Tantalus so their in-house devs can keep working on BotW 1 & 2. They were considering a proper remaster of Skyward Sword like the N64 games on 3DS, but decided to focus on 60fps instead, which isn't a bad idea considering how 30fps bogged down the game's main gimmick, 1:1 motion controls, and with how aiming isn't as fluid as other games were like Mario Galaxy 1 & 2.
@@AkameGaKillfan777 I’d say it’s still at least on par with the GC remakes. Sure there’s no extra content besides the amiibo with way too much functionality for something that’s optional, but I do feel like the out source company did a very good job
@@Cygis Still shouldn't have cost $60 at launch, or required a $25 limited run Amiibo for what should've been an in-game upgrade. I got a used copy from a retro game store for $45.
This fucking channel is the most entertaining thing on UA-cam, even when I watch the hour long episodes I go "Wait- Over already??" perfect with people with no attention span
4:28 "It's the one you want to go for..."
Lol I wish, within 5 hours of playing it on PS5 my game crash and my entire save data had corrupted, causing me to need to restart the game just after reaching Asteroid Coaster
"If a couple of fans can do it, then what's your excuse, Sega?"
That should be the Sonic franchise's motto.
i mean sega didnt do anything, as a matter of fact the developers set their own deadline, and iirc sega was okay with giving them an extra year to make sure it was done right
@@TokyoDrift456 Knowing Sega's track record, I have a very hard time believing that.
@@Bobb11881 well you better believe it soldier, because thats just plain truth
among the other shit things the developers do, they are known among the employees as being a shit place to work at, the higher ups are shit at resource managment, they lie to the publisher, not let them check their work, and said higher ups actively trash talk former employees on public forums, and sega wasnt aware of any of this because they seemingly had a good track record with making remasters that get good reviews, and their website makes them out to be a reputable company that fosters a "stress free environment" and "doesnt believe in crunch"
@@TokyoDrift456 Most of what you just said also applies to Sega. It's well-known that Sega is terrible at time management and has a habit of rushing games. They also completely screwed over Big Red Button.
@@Bobb11881 yea well, this time, they learned from their mistake, and had someone else make it in their place, its kinda sad, really
You fuckin' panned the audio for that joke and I appreciate it so damn much. Good review. Definitely need to talk about the fact that game RELEASED THIS WAY.
Not to make an unrelated point, but Sonic Heroes for the PS2 specifically was so buggy because the dev team was forced to create a port at the very last second and not given sufficient documentation or manpower to do so. Sony basically rolled up and said "what the fuck you can't release a sonic game and not include us! make a port!" and left Sonic Team out in the cold. The base game is perfectly functional and, you know, finished. So PS2 Sonic Heroes being in the state it was is because of a whole other can of "money, dear boy" worms.
Sonic Colours is such a mess in so many ways. It's sad to say that there hasn't been a good 3D sonic game since Generations, and a good sonic game since Mania.
Even FF 1 was still technically playable when it came out, despite games have been released in various degrees of broken forever. And that was made by a failing company where the boss probably reached the screw it point and let one of his subordinates make an RPG, because what else did they have to lose except everything.
Ah yes, FF1 where half the game wasn't working. RPGs from the GB/NES-era are certainly something.
5:15 ah yes this version of this song brings tears to my eyes everytime, cheers m8
Games back then _did_ have patches, but they were significantly more expensive (having to manufacture new chips/discs) and more inconvenient (they'd have to deal with replacing inventory and refunds and such), so they had to get it right the first time.
Nowadays, patching is about as easy as sending an email. So pushing out more games more quickly became more important than having a dedicated QA (quality assurance [game tester]) department. Which is even worse because they had built a model for monetizing their loyal fans and outsourcing QA testing. They used to send out game demos _people paid a membership for_ I kid you not, my mom had one of those memberships and we got to test demos of games.
I know people would literally give these corporations money to test these games out for them, but they can't even be bothered to do this.
