Met and talked with Ian last year at a Convention in Toronto, I asked him a similar question. I like how the Japanese narrator was super dramatically; super comedically serious in his descriptions, but Ian Sinclair's narrator not taking himself too seriously, acting super goofy or even narrating as if he's also getting invested in the story as well makes it so funny on its own.
Funimation: “Hey, Ian. We need you to be the narrator for Kaguya-sama.” Ian Sinclair: “That’s awesome! Where’s the script?” Funimation: “There is no script. Just watch the show and react as any normal viewer would.”

Watching these makes me remember that someone in Japan watched all of these and approved them. And honestly they deserve a raise for letting the dub be its own amazing thing.
Ngl I like how we get two different brands of humor from the same show. Juxtaposition of dead seriousness with the absurd and fully embracing the absurd are both very funny. We got two quality comedies out of the exact same animation and story.

He also absolutely killed it with his performance as Berkut in Fire Emblem Shadows of Valentia. He's insanely good at sounding completely and totally unhinged
You should watch How Heavy Are the Dumbells You Lift, that was his first go at narrating, and while not as un-hinged as he was here, still VERY much made the anime that much more enjoyable!
You can’t compare the two because of the explicit tonality change between the two voice actors. They took two completely different approaches to the role, and both are great.
