Regarding the exterior styling I agree wholeheartedly. I see the trend moving towards big, boxy muscular body styling with massive front grills (looking at you 22 Tundra) and all I can say is I personally love the sleekness of the Rangers front end. In fact it was the looks of the truck that finally tipped the scales and made me purchase it. After 2 weeks of daily commutes and a couple of road trips I am very satisfied with this truck. Mine is a 21 Ranger Tremor with Lariat trim in cactus grey. Very comfortable ride both on and off road. Nice review guys.

I live in Wyoming and I am telling the the powertrain kicks ass. I have the Lariat fx4 and my last was Tacoma TRD Off Road. First the comfort level. I am 6'3 and I was actually claustrophobic in Tacoma. But the best part is that at elevation you don't lose power. I had never had a turbo before and I will never ever go back to NA. I knew I lost power at elevation, but I had no idea how much.

My only complaint: There is a ton of turbo lag when getting back on the throttle when doing something like a California stop. It's very quick off the line from a standing stop. Should have had twin turbos

coming from a lot of Tacos over the years and disappointed in the Tacoma's latest 3.5L motor and trans combo, I switched over to the 2021 Ranger Lariat Tremor and I'm blown away how much better it performs all around versus the TRD OR 4x4!......add a Ford Performance Tune for about $800 and you get 45 more HP and 60 lb ft more of torque making it quite fast and fun to drive!......and no need to upgrade the tires on the Ranger Tremor right away either like on the Taco. Taco's are great trucks but they are living on the reputation of the 2nd gen (2005-2015). NO I'm not a serious offroader but this truck checks ALL the boxes!

I love my 2020 Ford Ranger XLT Super Cab 4x4! I certainly don't mind the European Ford Focus-like interior + like you said tons of headroom (unlike the Toyota Tacoma). I have just the standard 4x4 (non-FX4) tires/suspension. My tires are 255/65/17 and the 2.3 liter EcoBoost four cylinder felt very "quick" even in stock form! You're 100% right, absolutely NO, NO reliability issues in my 2020 Ranger with a relatively high nearly 33K miles on mine (bought brand-new in September, 2020 with only 1,700 miles). I got a sweet "deal" on mine, paid 26K + it listed for 33 MSRP as mine was a very light used dealer "courtesy" vehicle so I got a great price on my Ranger, but still full manufacturers warranty. I feel the "stock" horsepower/torque on my Ranger is more than adequate with my bone-stock tires! Again absolutely NO reliability issues, NO brake problems, NO warning or check engine lights, NO codes etc! I have quite a host of upgrades done to my Ranger too. ALL front LED headlights, both low/high beam as well as LED fog lights by ARC Lighting Concepts. With blue tint/protection done on headlights + yellow tint/protection done on the foglights by Laminx films. I found it odd Ford put on quite nice rear OEM LED rear tailights on this truck, but absolutely no LED headlights, only on the costly, upscale Lariat trim do you get all LED lighting, ugh. I've also added Weathertech custom digital fit floor liners since I live in Minnesota. I'm a "power" hound so I've done some "custom" engine ECU/transmission tunes by Livernois Motorsports. I've so far only run my 91 octane "towing" tune & am very impressed, will chirp the tires in the 1st to 2nd gear shift & in the cold you have to watch the 3rd gear shift too! With this tune, I've achieved a worst of around 15.5 MPG in city driving in very cold -20 to 5 degree temps with lots or idle + warm-up time to 27.5 (hand-calculated) MPG on the highway at 70 MPH using cruise control in nice 50-80 degree temps! Very pleased overall with the good MPG of this truck especially being it's a high output turbocharged (2 horsepower per cubic inch!) 270 stock horsepower from only 135 CID small displacement four cylinder pushing around an over 4,200 pound 4x4 truck! I've also added a Mishimoto full-sealed cold air intake with a dry, "non-oiled" synthetic cone filter & a 3 inch stainless steel exhaust system by AWE Tuning which adds a nice, "deep" (for a 4 cylinder) tone & no rasp or drone. Sounds very noticeable when you're on the pedal, but very quiet at cruising speeds! The gas pedal is your exhaust "volume control". I've also added an upgraded heavy-duty, high performance intercooler from Mountune Performance (known in the Ford Focus RS community) to help combat the heatsoak issues all Ford EcoBoost motors suffer from. I myself would certainly NOT consider a Ford Maverick! Folks say Ford will sell tons of Maverick "trucks" due to their low cost & the fact that Ford now has only the Mustang coupe as their lone car. So sad NO more Ford Crown Victoria (legendary reliability), Ford Taurus (I owned a 2010 Taurus SHO before my Ranger + loved it), Ford Fiesta or Focus and now no Ford Fusion. All of these Ford cars sold well too! To me the Ford Maverick "truck" is kind of a joke. Who's gonna by a "no frame", unibody truck with only "front wheel drive" offered in the MPG champ hybrid model with a scant 2K maximum towing capacity, must opt for the "biggest" 2.0 EcoBoost four cylinder that puts out a good for the class 250 horsepower, but still tows "only" a maximum of 4K pounds (only when equipped with the maximum tow package), NO true 4wd low-range in the transfer case, only a measly 4 foot bed. Worse yet (as Ford usually does) if one opts for a premium high-end Maverick in say Lariat trim with the 2.0 EcoBoost motor + FX-4 suspension, it would likely sticker at $34-36K+ or so. For that money one could certainly get into a new Ford Ranger in XL, STX or certain models of XLT trim! Ditto for the fully-loaded Ford Ranger "Tremor" in Lariat trim you tested. For it's likely $42-48K+ sticker, one could get into an XL or STX trim Ford F-150 which would offer much more refinement over the Ranger, alot more interior room, updated Sync 4, six or eight cylinder motors etc.

I'm looking at downsizing from a Tundra and I have it set up for camping "overlanding" etc. I'm currently considering the 21-23 Tremor used for the following reasons:
1 - I don't need to add a lift 2 - It's got a lot of low end torque 3 - I don't need to change out the wheels 4- there's a pretty decent aftermarket support 5 - even though it's an older platform (so is the Frontier) it's been proven to be pretty reliable. All in all, this is a great value in the used truck market. Also, the 2024's just came out so the prices on these should be a bit more appealing.
Has anyone had any issues with the Fox suspension or anything else major?

@@mattlee4807 I know man. Trust me. On paper and in person the Ranger just does everything better. Better Towing, Payload, MPG(tested), Powertrain, Ride quality on road, Ride quality(seat position), cost 5-10k less than the an equal Tacoma. The only thing I do give the Tacoma is that it's way cooler looking. Also, it's much easier to differentiate the TRD Pro from other Tacomas whereas the only thing separating the Tremor from other Rangers is a Tremor Sticker and Red colored side grill up front; basically nothing. But yeah, it's true; believe it!

California for decades and NOTHING comes close to Toyota I’ve seen them all come in and Toyota is #1 in reliability that 3.5L naturally aspirated v6 in the Tacoma had 11:1 compression ratio it needs 91 octane to have it come alive you can use 87 but it will run like a dog.
