In the 1980's, during the height of one of the biggest wars in the history of humanity (The Burger Wars) - McDonald's set out to create a new mascot that was unfortunately lost to the ages, and to memes.
Mac Tonight was created to appeal to an older crowd, but he appealed to so much more than that throughout his life time. But will we ever see Mac Tonight again?

Mac Tonight just feels like the kind of mascot that only 80s could produce. It was such an experimental time and he really embodies that.
I'm always caught off guard when I'm reminded Moon Man started off as a 50's crooner since I'm physically incapable of associating him with anything besides A) Saint Pepsi, and B) Biggie Smalls

I knew it was a McDonald’s toy, but I never knew where he came from.
I always thought he was some obscure tv character I could never find the show of.

Thank ManyKudos for cultivating such a wonderfully tasteful fanbase. I'm 37 years old as well. Just in case things hadn't got sad enough. I was alive during these Burger Wars. Delicious combat fought on the most tasty battleground in U.S. history.

Fun Fact: McDonald's had some Mac Tonight commercials here and there in the 90's , then came the 2007 commercial in Singapore which would like the old 80's commercials be dubbed in different languages, but this one was only dubbed for China and Hong Kong, after that Hong Kong Continued using Mac Tonight by remixing the Dubbed jingle from the 2007 commercial for various commercials up until 2010.

Somewhere in storage is a lunchbox containing a Mac Tonight Happy Meal toy. Being a million years old, I totally remember this ad campaign. Not sure when exactly I got that Happy Meal toy, but it was so bizarre that I never could bring myself to part with it. If I ever come across it, I'll be sure to snap some pics to share. One of the sadest things i saw was during the moon man purge, there was a parody video of the moon man raps using the text to speech of him just saying nice stuff like how you should hug your mother and to treat yourself right, course since it was moonman it got removed. rip wholesome moon man

The name Moon Man was attached to the Mac Tonight image by MurdarMachene in 2006. Moon Man's text-to-speech voice (AT&T Mike) was first used by Farkle in 2007, although Farkle didn't make songs, only skits and speeches, establishing Moon Man as a racist shock humor character. Hypersaxon made the first Moon Man song ("Money in the Bank"), and he also made "Crank Dat". MuMluxMlan made Moon Man's biggest hit, "Notorious KKK", in 2009.
New Moon Man songs are still coming out on Bitchute, as of 2021.

I didnt know his name was Mac Tonight back in the 80's so I always called him MoonMan as a kid.
I came here just because you used the OST from Tetris CD-i in the CyberPunk video from ManiKudos, then I saw you usually use it for your videos.... and I'll stay for your content... Nice job! (But mostly because that OST that give me so many good vibes)

i always thought he was one of the franchises coolest mascots, but don't get the copyright/ pub right issue with Bobby Darrin , since the song as you said was originaly published as "Moritat" by German composer Bernard Breach way back in 1926, so I'm thinking, public domain, also, it was covered by other artists before Darin as well, such as Louie Armstrong , and Sonny Rollins did a Jazz hit of it in 56, three years before Darrins mac the knife, I know it was Darrins Staple song, but a law suit seems scketchy considering the songs history, I remember seeing one of the mechanized ones in NE Warren/Niles Ohio location, full sized model, baby grand player piano, sang a few lounge songs , cool as heck for that time, great marketing concept for miccydees
