Managed to get through my first week, 4 days. How did it go?

- My mental health is good a the moment, but there are changes ahead. A lot to think about now as I start looking at work, vans and moving.
Survival of the fittest! So keeping up the cardio and resistance!!!

I am glad you enijoy it you are in your element driving and mixing with other people and you are happy and you can see that but you will get used to the wheel chairs 😊
Hmm. The mixing with others unfortunately is not a big thing for me. The canteen is full of gossiping females, which I hate. That's why I'm glad I'm a driver, I can escape with the boys and go and mess about with the van, getting it ready to go out. I do love my service users though, it's like a fun morning trip out!!
As a wheelchair user being clamped onto a bus etc terrifies me.... Everyone has to learn but if I feel person doing locking unsure I will ask someone else to double check or even at times not go.
There have been so many times where person doing locking has admitted they do not do it often, not sure of what they are doing and my confidence as a user then flies out the window.
Anyone regardless if council, taxi, local help bus etc should all be trained to same high/competent/safe standard not because of risk of being sued but they have wheelchair users and others lives in their hands.
Have no fear. The training is good here. When I have locked a wheelchair in, the driver who has done it for years, double checks it to make sure it is locked in. Also I am OCD at making sure it's done properly, which is why I am so slow, but I don't care, one day I will be quick, but not until I am sure I am doing it correctly.

I used to drive a mini bus for disability... the clamps and hooks become second nature...

Didn’t know you drove lorries in the past. There’s another woman on here who used to be a lorry driver, meanqueen superskrimper. Quite rare to find a female lorry driver so it’s strange that I’m subscribed to 2
She owned a cab co an drove a cab 🚕 mq ilona drove a truck 🚚

When I use to be a mini bus driver, I got Midas training, I would of thought the council would of put your through that, Midas to training on how to handle the wheelchairs/lift etc.
You said you can drive trucks, haven’t you fancied been a truck driver, I have my class 1 too.

I have done my Midas, and yes we got training, unfortunately with the way I am it takes me a while to connect the dots. I am getting much better at it, and the council are training me well and won't send me out on my own until they are happy. I was panicking a bit at the start thinking they would send me out, but the training is good and I am getting better and quicker

Thanks for that. I hate my hair so much. I go to the hairdressers and for a couple of days it looks good and then I'm back looking like some wild woman!!! I'm thinking of going purple or green,lol!!!!

The wheelchair technicalities will become second nature very soon. The driving is not a concern with your previous experience. Enjoy it, it seems like its perfect for you! ❤️🇦🇺🦘
