I’m currently visiting New Zealand from America and watching this helped me understand a little more what Kiwis might think of me being American. I’ve been really afraid if coming off ignorant considering the fact that I’m here to indulge myself in the culture and I very much so respect the Kiwi/Māori culture. I want to respect everyone here and not sound so self centered because I know that being American most people may expect this from me. Coming to New Zealand has allowed me to be more open minded and respect others homes more but also I’m doing my best to understand what is and isn’t okay. What may be okay in America may be disrespectful in New Zealand and not having the proper knowledge before hand or not having done any research can defect the way you’re perceived having done wrong without that knowledge. Today I was talking to a lady named Sara about my lead up to why I decided on New Zealand for a holiday and the obstacles I faced in coming here all while I was trying to provide a living at home and I felt like maybe she must’ve thought I was in a way being cocky. I hope not, it’s truly been a pleasure to meet her as well as many others and everything I did in my past was made for the experiences im now able to share with these people whom are truly magnificent!
As a kiwi I love Americans, they are hard working, honest and generous. I was in Boston for a conference and was offered free accommodation by a New Yorker in NY. I cannot fault the people, its just your government sometimes leaves a lot to be desired. Get money and business out of politics and you will be a lot better off.
More Americans need to listen to this and see how others in the world see us and out country! The main thing to keep in mind is it's not all bad but certainly things to be heard!
Lol, they keep saying "RACE" and silly me keep hearing "RICE" and wondering why don't they like our RICE? What's wrong with the rice here in the US. 🤣 Gotta love NZ accent.
New Zealanders had much nicer things to say than Europeans do... (dual citizen with an American husband here)

Well, I always feel that the ones who come all this way are open and adventurous, looking to see what other cultures and places are like and aren’t so pigeon holed in attitudes like some can be back in the US. I loved traveling around the US, one of my favorite countries to visit. I for one are glad we both have more similarities than differences.
Every country has its social problems. What is unique about America is that we're simply open and honest about them.
YEP! I liken it to a dirty diaper. Kiwis will try and keep the poo inside whilst putting new diapers over the one full of crap until the poo just can’t stay in and it dribbles down the legs…. All with a constipated look on the face.
Americans are just throwing that diaper everywhere with zero shame.
The American way is better as NZ poos just as much

No one mentioned Americas very expensive health care system,I live in Australia but have kiwi relatives and friends and we pay a lot here,I am also not a well person and I'm disabled and aided and need specialized help, we pay for it all because we dont get government help,if lucky you might get a small medicare rebate back other wise you do pay up front and medication is not cheap in Australia unless you have a health care card which i dont, our public hospitals are free though but in America the cost of health care and going to hospital is very expensive compared to Australia and New Zealand ,loved listening to all of this so Thankyou for shareing 😊
Kia ora Tara - ive been wondering about tertiary education. So from years of watching tons of American shows its seems obvious that going to college in the US is similar to kiwis going to university in NZ. But the US also have universities, what is the difference? Excuse my ignorance - and roughly how much does sending a student to college costs - I know that is dependant on what career the student is pursuing. My son's partner has a best friend she grew up with in the Waikato who is currently studying at a college in Texas as part of her athletics scholarship. Poor girl comes home to NZ during her spring break so hasnt spent a summer in the US at all so far - im sure she feels her life is just one long winter. Lol. Appreciate your viewpoint. Nga mihi
Living in the Midwest is so different than living in big cities. Many foreigners only see big city life here in Indiana we have big houses and big yards and live cheaper than big cities

Im a Kiwi living in China. I see America as not safe. Have no desire to go there. At first i thought Americans were loud....but the Chinese are LOUD.

I’d say that most kiwis are positive about Americans.
Actually, as someone who is a llittle older, I feel like the 'tall poppy' syndrome is a bit of a myth. It's cultural and more like a feeling that everyone has a value and a contribution to make to society and at the end of the day, no-one is better than anyone else - so people who toot their own horns aren't appreciated very much. That's why you don't see actors etc. celebritized much here.
The gentleman that mentioned the constitution I’d tend to agree with, a lot of the people interviewed here not particularly balanced in their knowledge and tend to believe information that’s fed to them through the media and that inevitably comes out with a quite liberal or left leaning slant.
The Constitution has proven to be incapable of handling Drumph!
It’s deficiencies will however keep Constitutional Lawyers employed for years!
I like how they, unknowingly or not, speak about the myth of the "American Exceptionalism."
Don't agree on the constitution at all; a document more written for those times than these...that right to bear arms which is such utter chaos today, that all men are created equal in times when the authors of that document hypocritically themselves owned slaves..it's intricacies & inconsistencies a paradise for lawyers. Like americans individually but their one eyed approach to capitalism at the expense of humanity and social equity a big problem.
The US Supreme Court was a big mistake..
No democracy in the US when a few old farts can dictate to the majority.

Like I said before. America is a great country full with many wonderful friendly people.

Yes Australia might be a lot bigger than people realise, but it is still in fact smaller than the USA. Not by a whole lot relatively, but still smaller. Also the fact most of Australia is unused, whereas the people in USA are spread out a lot more throughout the country, adding to it's vastness.
Interesting video… as a Kiwi, it probably would have also been my [positive] opinion a decade ago, as mostly, I met worldly wise Americans out of the US. My 4 brief trips to the US didn’t really adversely impact that.
Obama (a true gentleman I believe) appeared to be an indication that the US was maturing… But then 2016 happened and it opened my eyes to the true America.
- Guns! They’re nuts! Over 1 mass shooting a day! “Active shooter” drills at school! “We need more good guys with guns!”
- Healthcare! What’s all this socialism crap? Why can’t Americans appreciate what the rest of the developed world do to help their citizens?
- Corruption! The level of political corruption is disgusting! We admonish politicians here for bad language!
- Freedom of Speech! It’s killing the US with the likes of Fox hiding behind the 1st Amendment to spread lies and conspiracies for $$$ ratings!
- Constitution! A document so dependant on decency; so incapable of handling a narcissistic psychopath!… 1st and 2nd Amendment abuse! An individual can be president from jail! A president can pardon murderers and co-conspirators! Short term politicians can appoint politically biased for-life judiciary! An impeachment trial allows “family members” to be jurors! etc etc
- Democracy! A slavery era construct (Electoral College) can override the will of the people!
- Education (rational thought)! After 4 years of Drumphs lies, racism, bigotry, misogyny, xenophobia, nepotism, abuse of power… 74m came back and said: “That’s the guy for me”! And then there’s book banning!
- Freedom! Womens rights can be removed! Highest rate of incarceration in the developed world! The LGBTQ community is ostracised!
- Voting! Rampant obstructionism and gerrymandering!

Every country has its issues but apologies to decent Americans… the US is not a country I would feel proud of!

I once had a brief correspondence with a kiwi who was a daughter of a famous (in NZ) artistic family. It was brief because she turned out not to be smart and didn't like my telling her how ignorant she was. We Americans hardly have a monopoly on stupidity or bigotry.
