I've seen different kinds of Mastiffs Italian , English, African and so on but I have never seen a hyperactive Mastiff Thanks for posting and I still love the videos simple and to the point not too long and drawn out just one simple step at a time

All the mastiffs i have met have been sooooo lazy. I have a mastiff mix who is mostly Presa Canario with south African boerboel/neo/american bulldog mixed in and my girl is lazyyyyy! She stays in the yard and isnt interested in much :)

Great video, Maya is gorgeous, hope she is doing just fine and hasn't developed any early health issues.
I am desperately in need of some advice. We are currently caring for a senior Mastiff inherited from my partner's family who displays every negative behaviour mentioned in this video, especially excessive mouthing/licking/nibbling/snorting on the hands and arms of ourselves and guests. We don't know exactly what breed of Mastiff he is (looks a bit like Maya but with a darker brindle coat, not a Cane Corso, he doesn't drool), or his precise age (pretty sure he's around 7-8 but could well be older).
He has suffered severe disruption during his life; multiple relocations & different owners/carers, lack of a constant Alpha presence in a family with multiple dogs, etc. He exhibits severe anxiety/loneliness/attachment issues (destructive chewing, stealing food if left anywhere within reach when we leave the house, loud whining/vocalising when we leave or arrive home). To top it all off he is now suffering from worsening arthritis and seems to be dealing with an increasing amount of pain in his joints and paws, exacerbated by his overly long nails as he refuses to be clipped without mild sedation but we can't afford to take him to the vet as often as we would like.
In short, he's an anxious destructive painful mess. But he's also a handsome, dignified, friendly and loving doggo, and it breaks my heart to see him in this state. What I really need to know is, aside from obvious stuff like regular vet visits as often as we can manage and dietary supplements to minimise arthritic pain, is there any training techniques for older dogs that might help to alleviate his anxiety and loneliness issues? Or are we far too late at this stage of his life and simply have to cope with his negative behaviours and try to minimise his pain/discomfort until he passes in the next few years? I've lived with dogs before but never an older one with this laundry list of issues, and I'm pretty out of my depth here. Any advice you could offer would be greatly appreciated. I would be very interested in the online course but due to the time difference (we're in Australia) I'm not sure how that would work.
Sorry for the long and rambling comment. Many thanks in advance for any tips you might suggest to help our old boy live out his days more comfortably and help us keep our sanity.

Hi. Thanks for watching and for taking the time to to reach out. I’m a big advocate for caring for the mental and emotional well-being of older adult dogs. Since the training is all about building a calm connection there is no dog that is too old or too far gone. I adopted an 8 year old dog a few years back that exhibited the whole gambit of behavioral challenges (anxiety, aggression, fear) and working him through this type of training has been one of the most rewarding processes. The process is just as rewarding as the outcome. As for the time difference - I have a lot of people that enroll in my online classes that are not able to attend classes in real time, but I send recordings and answer questions as they come up. In some cases people choose to do a consultation by Zoom in combination with online classes. Let me know if you are interested in consultation or classes, I can send more information. Warm regards, Alyssa Rose

@@legendsdogtraining Hi Alyssa, thank you so much for taking the time to respond with a detailed reply! It was very encouraging to read, literally the best thing I've heard all week. 😁
I would love to organise a consultation to discuss the issues/solutions in person. However, we both run our own businesses and coronavirus has hit us pretty hard, so funds are very tight at the moment as I mentioned. I will discuss with my partner and we'll see what might be done, we may choose to find a behavioural specialist near to our local area (to avoid getting whacked by the exchange rate which isn't going to do us any favours) but I'd certainly appreciate receiving some more info regarding your fees which I can present to her along with your extremely encouraging response. At the very least I would like to organise an initial consultation so you might put us on the right path.
We actually also own another Mastiff - Fawn, a beautiful Boerboel, several years younger than old boy Des - who also displays fear/aggression issues (don't get me started 🙄) and you've given me so much hope that we can help him too. Which, quite frankly, will be just as healthy for the human relationships in the household as it will be for the doggos!
Thanks once again for your prompt response, I'd appreciate it if you could send some further information regarding pricing for the various consult options to my gmail address (sixstringedthing at gmail dot com) and I will get things moving.
Best regards to you and yours from New South Wales, Australia. 👍
