It's been about 5 months since Apple released the M2 MacBook Air, and while the MacBook launched with a fair bit of controversy, I think that most of it has been overblown. After a prolonged use period of using this MacBook, I think it might be one of the best laptops that Apple has ever made especially after the recent release of the M2 iPad Pro, and some price cuts that we have seen from other retailers this holiday season...

I got it on sale on Amazon for $200 ($50 off). I agree it’s expensive, but I didn’t know when I bought my M2 MacBook Air that I’d ever need to use more than 1 external monitor. My work responsibilities increased and I kept wishing I had an additional monitor for better productivity. I saw this video and was excited to hear this was a possibility. There are other cheap dual HDMI adapters but they just mirror the external monitors due to lack of dual monitor support from the MacBook Air. This allows you to have up to 3 external monitors, not mirrored, but extended desktop. Plus it gives extra ports for fast charging devices and an Ethernet port. For $200 I’d say it’s worth it if you need the functionality. Much better than buying a new computer or dealing without. If it’s “too expensive” for you, you either don’t really need it or should purchase a cheaper computer. Just my opinion though. Thanks for the awesome recommendation Greg!

Love your reviews in general. Not all users need more then one external display.... I do myself use two external displays with my M1 and M2 air, and use a display link based dock. I know you have to feature your sponsor, but you don't have say its the only/best choice since it does not support dual 4K displays at 60hz. Most docks that do have both dual HDMI and dual display port so you have your choice of connections. That said and I am sure you aware most users who want to drive two displays can use one native USB-C port for best clam shell/closed lid experience and one driven by the USB-C dock and have external KB and mouse etc. Last point of note is when searching for USB-C docks some would be best served by USB-C docks that offer 10Gbs throughput instead of the more common 5Gbs.

Got a base model M2 Air Starlight and I have no regrets. I got mine at a huge discount (I paid £750 or US$925 approx.) so I can't really complain about anything at that price. In fact, even without the discount, I feel like I've got an excellent machine. I upgraded from a 2017 Pro with an 5th gen Intel Core i5.
I decided to get an M2 over the M1 due to its more modern design with smaller bezels. More future-proof for me, as I'll have this for the next 5 years at least.
Super fast, no issues with photo editing on Lightroom whatsoever. MagSafe is excellent. 1080p webcam is good. Perfectly acceptable for Zoom or Skype calls.
The SSD read and write speeds are surprisingly quick, even for the base model. When I render and export photos en masse from Lightroom onto the SSD or my hard drive, it's very snappy.
I tend to store all my actual media (photos, videos etc) on my hard drive or on iCloud, and use the built in storage for the installation of applications and the odd document. I have just over 50Gb left which I don't intend to use. Keeps the machine fresh.
I was briefly tempted to get an iPad Pro and keep the older i5 Pro for a few more years but upon using the M2 Air I can confirm that would have been a catastrophically unwise decision to make.
If I were to buy a 256Gb 12.9 inch iPad Pro, with an Apple Pencil, keyboard and case, that's already past the £1300 price point. Base model M2 Airs start at £1249 by comparison.
Why would I pay more for a laptop-like 'experience' when I can pay less for an actual laptop, with all the functionality that comes with it? Especially with the monster discount I benefited from? I'd be gaining a touch screen but losing the raw functionality and wider app support of the Mac.
M2 Air is good value for money, even when compared to the M1. Newer chip, better webcam and modern design make it worth the extra cash.

No. Smooth animations and especially cursor movement is so noticeable when you’ve gotten used to devices with upwards of 120hz.

I got the 13.6 inch M2 MacBook Air in the Silver color. This is my first laptop, and I love it, very user friendly. I upgraded with 16 gigs of ram memory, and 512 SSD storage, but kept the 8core GPU. I'm a longtime Windows desktop user since 1999 with Windows 98. My last Dell desktop had Windows 7 Pro with 2T hard drive, cause I had a website, building webpages. That's why I knew to upgrade my ram and storage, especially for future proofing. I want to be able to keep this for a number of years, like I did with my first Dell for 10 years. After my Mac class at the Soho Apple Store in NYC, I checked out the 15 inch Air, was not that impressed. The screen resolution wasn't any better than the 13.6 Air. I had them put Beach Boys "Wouldn't It Be Nice" to check out sound. It was louder, but not much better than 13.6 Air. Another thing I liked, way lighter than the 15 inch. I put the Air in my crossbody laptop briefcase, and was able to walk around NYC without any strain on my shoulders. If you're a student or teacher lugging a laptop back and forth to school, very portable. I'm so glad I'm not stuck to a desk anymore. I can sit in my couch with my legs up on my chaise, with laptop on my lap. I really recommend if you are going to spend the money for a good computer, spend a little bit extra to upgrade to 16 gigs of ram, and 512 SSD storage. You will be grateful in the long run. Allot of the videos in here said not much difference between 8C GPU and 10 so, save money on that. Another thing, as a former longtime Windows user, I found out, don't shut Mac down, put it in sleep mode. I'm so used to shutting my Windows desktop down, before bed. I've had this laptop just over 4 weeks, and I'm liking it. Real test will be months from now. Great video, it really helps us choose the right laptop. That's why I chose a MacBook over Windows laptop, I can sink the Air to my iPhone 13 Pro. Also, didn't want the hassle of learning Windows 11.

So, I bought the midnight and frankly after 30 days I couldn't be happier. The issue of fingerprints is over blown. I clean my glasses daily so with my handy microfibre lying about a quick go over the case cover and track pad and palm rests its not a big deal that many would have you believe. I did upgrade the ram to 16gb and am I glad I did as basic usage seems suck up 6gb so when I have plenty of tabs open (WORD, EXCEL, JSTOR, Google, Firefox, tonnes of pdf's etc - I'm a PhD student if that helps) there is about 8gb RAM left. Daily temps after say 5-7 hours run at 34c and memory swap is minimal CPU load about 10-12%. The fact that this is so light portable and I went from a MBP 16 2020 model to this I've adjusted - you cannot go wrong. I'm a basic user no games, programming, editing, videos. I write a lot. I run the brightness at 50%-60% the battery lasts 9 hours on average depending if I am charging my phone of the USB C port. Hope this helps someone.

I can't imagine having less than 512gb of storage, and I purchased 16gb of Ram, which I believe is the sweet spot.
so, I did make a decision to pay for the Apple Upgrade, but I got the computer that I wanted. I still don't think I needed the 14" Pro.

I bought this as a leisure time laptop (I have a 2021 16 inch MacBook Pro for work) is the screen refresh rate. It is so obviously lower quality after switching from the pro. But hey, I made a budget decision and this is the downgrade.

i think, apple is gonna turn the M1 MBA into the base "Macbook", like they did with the base model iPad, and just keep on using the old body and a previous gen processor, but sell it for like 400$ less. So when the M3 MBA comes out, apple will just put the M2 processor into the current M1 MBA body, but sell it for 800$ instead of the 1300$. Just like the iPad, i don't think most people will shy away from an older body if it can still do what they want it to do - consume media like YT or browse the web. That's why i think apple didnt discontinue the M1 MBA - it's all part of their plan to get a broader Macbook lineup that starts cheaper.

No. . . I’m not going to hang my phone from my screen. . . In the middle of a conference call and then the picture goes crazy because I had to replay to a quick text and now everyone is distracted by it? No, the camera needs to stay on the laptop. 1080p is plenty for suck. We aren’t making movies or editing photos from this camera. It’s a functional part, not a selling point part.

Well this normal back in March purchased after thinking about it for a few days, and speaking with my best friend I decided to purchase a MacBook Air M1 chip with 8‑core CPU, 7‑core GPU, and 16‑core Neural Engine, 16GB unified memory, 2TB SSD storage.
Was going to purchase a simple M1 27-inch 5K iMac to replace my now obsolete iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2014) with 2TB SSD storage. Thing is Apple did not come out with this. Now with the Apple Studio line in the professional desktop part of the grid feel no reason for Apple to ever make any 5K 27 inch model of the iMac.
Why did I not purchase the Mac mini? Almost came down to flip of a coin M1 Mac mini, or M1 MacBook Air. Thing is with the M1 MacBook Air, and an external monitor like the Studio Monitor I can set these up in a two screen configuration if I want to. Also the M1 MacBook Air gives me the option to take it with me, and use remotely if I have the need.

Apple SHOULD NOT release a non-webcam MacBook. Assuming someone will always have a compatible phone, and that it's always ready for use is a step too far. The laptop needs to be a fully featured unit.

The anker sponsor feels really disingenuous. One 2k 60hz and one 4k 30hz does not *solve* the problem of multiple displays on this MacBook. 30hz is so bad to use that you'd be better of going with another 1080p60. And 1080 on monitors is not a good looking resolution I'm sorry. My intel MacBook can output to my 4k60 and 1440p240 monitors at the same time just fine. The Anker dock may give you the ability to use multiple monitors, but it doesnt solve the issue at all
