  • After much deliberation I finally bit the bullit and bought a used 2002 Honda CBR1100XX Super blackbird.
    This is me taking it home after just buying it and reminiscing about the days I had one before I bought my BMW GS 1200 Adventure

    just bought one myself felt tall and heavy at first after a few hundred miles in the saddle it rides like a similar year cbr600 on steroids. I like the link brakes excellent for slow speed maneuvers slight back brake with throttle control the balance is brilliant

    Jaws straight bars will sit you more upright.About 3" higher & 3" back & slightly wider bars are comfortable for us oldies.

    excellent.the only thing that time has made better is tires.modern rubber really lets the bird soar.

    got one in London for 1700 and with 300 put into it its now a decent ride
    nowhere can you get such a price to performance ratio
    i have for eyars a cbr1000f and its a decent tourer
    the xx is soooo light and nimble in comparison like riding a push bike

    Amazing bike, but the first hyper bike was the zzr 1100. 👍❤️🏍️

      Yes, I had forgotten about the ZZR, but that was definitely a hyperbike !,
      I suppose what stands out in my mind is the Blackbird was always touted as the worlds first production 200mph bike, but it never actually did 200mph, I think they had it clocked at about 178/180mph. Not even the Gen 1 Hayabusa topped 200mph.
      It reminds me of a piece Clarkson did on the E-Type Jag. That was also said to be a 150mph car, turned out Jaguar were lying ! It could never hit it.
      I suppose Honda marketing did the same.

    I just bought a 2001 blackbird after not being on one for 20 years and I also cant't remember being so low on the bars, must just be an age thing. Anyway, i have ordered the helibars for it and will see if that helps :)

      @@robertt65250Hi, i decided to sell the bird in May this year as i could not get rid of the weight on my wrists and hands, Even with the helibars and after that i tried the straightbar conversion which made it worse as the reach was extended. Just one f those things i guess so now buying an adventure bike instead.

    Think the carb model has mor high end power and injected has more flat power band. But 0-300kmh it’s about the same power. That’s why the injected has less (top) horsepower.

    I've test ridden more modern bikes and am always pleased to get back on the bird afterwards. I can tell it annoys the sales guys in the dealerships that my Honda gives a better more powerful ride than 95% of their new offerings. Bang for buck it's a keeper! I like the idea of a zzr1400 but really I have most of what that offers with the xx but with better build quality for peanuts. I also doubt the Kwak would be in as good condition as the bird after 20 years. The fit and finish of new bikes isn't nearly up to the perfection that was Honda during the 1990s. I did sit on a a new fjr1300 the other day which could be a contender for a 2nd bike though.

    • @denisrailey777

      What I have read stay away from the Fjr1300 unless you want to ride it first.

    Hi people! I am planning to buy one 1997 model with 80000km owned by one owner. Haven’t test ride it yet but looks good. Just wonder is it worth it to buy with so many km on it and is there something I need to inspect before purchasing. Thanks to all in advance!

      I wont hold being a cyclist against you. Mpg if ur behaving is about 33mpg but drops significantly if your speeding a lot which is very hard not to do on these bikes.

    Hayabusa is a hunting bird that hunts blackbirds I don’t know how many times I’ve heard that over the years the laughable thing is the Honda blackbird wasn’t named after a bird it was named after a plane the Suzuki was faster but was a bigger bike they had nothing with the same size engine that could beat the double x

    • @MCIreland99
      @MCIreland99  3 роки тому

      Yep blackbird was namedafter the lockheed SR-71. Stood beside one on the deck of the US Intrepid in NYC. Unreal machine. Perfect heritage for the Honda.

    • @alexxela754
      @alexxela754 3 роки тому +1

      Yes. And I love the blackbird. But I love the way Suzuki came up with the name though. Straight line the busa wins. But curvy roads the bird wins all day.

    Why the hatred toward cyclists? They are very vulnerable 2 wheel road users as well.They don't kill bikers like car drivers and other vehicle drivers! Perhaps you should try cycling to reduce your girth and wind your neck in to be more comfortable on your Blackbird?
