  • I have made an attempt to use the Solid State Logic Fusion as the only 'colour box' in my home studio that did not go well. Some EDM sound examples at 5:53.
Thanks to guys at SXPro - sxpro.co.uk/

Helpful Video Thank you! I was going to buy for same reasons, but think will hold back. Curious what you ended up buying?

@@amateurmusicstudio I still might pick it up just for the Mid Side option and HF compressor. I was like you looking for analog goodness. I don't like very dirty sounding things, but my 2 cents after searching is no one box is going to do everything, but a few of them can. I currently have a SSL Bus+ going into a Gainlabs Empress EQ, I also have a Maag EQ4M. Very clean, but warm and analog. I highly reccomend any of these, especially the first two. I tried the Neve 542, but did not like those, cut the high end too much, had a Manley Vari MU at one point, was ok, tried preamps like BAE 1073, had several Bettermaker gear, did not like, too subtle. Converters are one of the biggest things too. I have RME ADI-2 FS which is really affordable. Reverb through my analog gear sounds better and nearly all plugins for mixing so I mix through them, love Lexicon PCM currently. Good luck in your search!

Thank you for your comment this was very interesting to find out. I actually considered a lot of the gear you have mentioned. I was seriously considering NEVE 542.. and looked at Vari MU...and Maag EQ4... After my experiment with Fusion I have come across Roger Mayer 456HD - I watched a few videos and it almost looked like it would work for me but I do not have the 500 rack and... how many slots would I need - do I get just for a pair of these or with more slots.. would I use those... it is going to be just too much... so - not decided yet. Another one I mentioned in the video - Freqtube - but it is for in the box production only so, again - not sure. Please do let me know if you end up finding something you actually like!!! Thank you!

@@amateurmusicstudio you can listen to freqtube online - I did and was not impressed. It does something, but nothing impressive I felt. Kind of like a distortion box I got the impression. I do wish more hardware would create software integrations which I most liked about it. As far as 500 series the Heritage OST-4 is nice and it powers each slot individually. I own it. I only use 500 series for specialty preamps, but after going through a ton of 500 gear I am deciding that it is not good for a master bus chain if you want professional results. Hard to describe, but the hardware that is racked has more headroom and depth I feel like. I think the Roger tape emulation may be worth a shot, you should get one of those and one of the Neve 542 to test out and listen to demos online. I think both are great, just not for my setup, but if I had no other gear I probably would like a tape style hardware more. I like to think of hardware like this after going through stuff: Tubes give you depth and 3D sound, but do not remove harshness, Bus Compressor helps glue mix together, transformers add weight, tape softens the high end/remove harshness. I highly recommend the SSL Bus+, It has transformers with the 4k modes and so flexible with dynamic eq, really glued mix too. If I had only one piece of hardware that would be it
