A lot of people are talking shit about this album. But i think it's awesome! True.. It doesn't have a lot of "anger vibes" and roughness like the old ones, but the music and lyrics are awesome! Listen to "descending". It's a masterpiece. Love that you're back to do tool songs! Thank you!
@@almightymain I agree. People need to learn to appreciate things for what they are. If they want Lateralus, listen to Lateralus. Music would never evolve with that mindset. This album is a beautiful work of art.
Check this out DJ. At 11:15 of Invincible, it's the exact chord changes as 46 and 2. Sing the "See my shadow changing" verse at 11:48 and right after "46 and 2 are just ahead of me" it goes into the outro. I don't think it was done by accident.
YES!! ⚠️⚠️Tool is an experience, everytime i listen to them I find myself just deep into thought and taking in the moment. Through the years I revisit their music and I'll be finding deeper meanings to their songs, its strange, I learn something new from the same songs ive been listening to for years, this just shows the true brilliance from the artist, imo.
So glad to see this channel grow, guys. I always love seeing y'all's reaction and appreciation to new music *ESPECIALLY* TOOL. 🔩 If you guys haven't done so already you *NEED* to see them in concert!!
Jay and Steph, from what I've read, Maynard talks about the band's fear of having to be perfect in making this album, and how manic and crazy they all were in trying to please everyone but themselves. So the lyrics are Maynard's prayer to get rid of all the self-doubt and get it done
Like most Tool songs, the lyrics are somewhat open for interpretation , but basically the song is about how we let fear get in the way of our connecting with other sentient beings and how the deceiver (Politician?) tells us to fear the "other", i.e. anyone who's not like us. Most of the album is about fear and overcoming that emotion, so as to become whatever we - humans are meant to become individually and as a species. If you want to hear a good companion piece, check out Right in Two, also by Tool. It has similar themes, but the lyrics are pretty straight forward, well, for Tool.
This tool growth has been the same as mine being angry in my younger years and as I matured let things go. Which would be the point thyre at rightnow. Great vid I love the edit. ♥️
I think it's just Maynard's commentary on the current cultural environment in the United States. He's wanting us to be immune from deceivers and manipulators so that our dialogue improves and we're able to make meaningful progressive steps. There's also a need for us to overcome our fear of "the other". Knowing what I know about Maynard, there's likely a 'leftist' slant about the stuff he's referring to, but the beauty of the song is that you don't have to take a left wing interpretation away from the message in order for it to be meaningful and put to good use.
There's a recent UA-cam docu series with Maynard in it. Can't recall the name, but y'all could find it easy enough. In it he talks a bunch about his winery but also his music. He says he intentionally builds layers of music an meaning in them so that listeners can enjoy it whether they just want to toe tap along to the tune or do a deep dive into the lyrical meaning, and everything in between. The man's a genius.
You wanna hear some bongo playing, Steph? You two need to react to Right in Two by Tool, you will love the song on many levels and it is bongo heavy! Sippin on the leafy green in legal Canada!
Not gonna be one of those “I know everything about everything” commenters. In a nutshell he’s saying you do you, ignore the noise and forget the haters. Just let all the BS go and live your life.
The "bongo" sound is called a tabla. Steph loved your comment about happiness and freedom; so true! One thing, do yourselves a favor and get some good headphones, especially for listening to Tool.
This album is their experience of maturing to an older and wiser individual. From their first album which was angst filled and angry towards the people and situations that traumatize, to this album that goes over accepting limitations and the wisdom to let go of unnecessary drama(exhale, expel, recast my tale, weave my allegorical elegy= to release the failures of your past and accept the successes as the true story of your life... Or to learn from your mistakes and move on with new wisdom)... Maybe I'm just really baked
Great reaction video I subscribed 😄 The rest of the album gets even better every song is a masterpiece itself looking forward to more possible tool reactions. I recommend going through the album in order and enjoying every small detail cause there’s so much 🌀 Also there older albums are just as amazing 🔥♥️
you guys were overwhelmed in this one, its ok.... it's also ok to admit when something isn't your cup of tea.... i know, i know.... the internet... fuck em.... everyone can't like everything and you can't be worried about the people who aren't able to process this basic truth
Thank you both! I have never really "got" Tool, which is odd as my tastes span Metallica to Pink Floyd (and much more) but Tool have never really worked for me. However your comments and discussion on the song have made me listen to the band again with a greater appreciation.
I always got it to mean “ first I bought in to what you had to say but it became venom to me and to let it go I have to exhale you and ask for blessing to rid you ! Thus a blessing of immunity to your teachings and the process it requires to let it go!
Immunity long overdue The lyric is typically enigmatic and open to interpretation, which is the way Keenan likes it: he feels songs are subjective, and never gives details as to their meanings. Speaking with Revolver, he explained that the album deals with "wisdom through age, through experience." In biology, an inoculum is a culture made from bacteria for the purpose of creating a vaccine (inoculation). "Fear Inoculum" could thus be seen as working to create an immunity or defense against fear. The next line is also a biology metaphor: Contagion I exhale you Keenan goes on to address "The Deceiver" who has brought fear into his life. He stands up to and expels his adversary; in doing so he becomes immune to the venom in The Deceiver's words. At the end of the song, The Deceiver is vanquished: I see you running Deceiver chased away A long time coming
Imagine that Fear is the Deceiver in the song. The unveiling is facing whatever truth and Deceiver being chased away is the fearmonger leaving that was holding you back from facing the truth. Or in an external sense, getting over a fear that someone else is trying to bestow. For example, the media. Getting over the fear. Becoming inoculated to fear. Drums are programmable tablas. He can program all sorts of sounds into them and are also pressure sensitive and some are directionally sensitive also. Dude is the most intricate and amazing drummer on earth.
I LOVE your Tool reviews!!!! If you ever have a chance will you guys please please do Schism bc it is a song about relationships and I just think it wpuld be fun to see a couple kind of break it down?!?! Anyway, love your videos and think you both are so awesome!!!
I love watching people hear tool. And thing about Tool there is alot of meaning in every song. If you see it and feel it then that’s what it was about.
It seems easier to understand this song if you picture a battered spouse situation. “Mania” Toxic relationships. From the perspective of the one being put down, a internal struggle happens. Self confidence suffers, the abuser convinced you you are worthless and you are alone. “The Venom” which causes the fear to not break away. This song is about finally seeing through the bullshit, ignoring the internal voices and be thankful to be able to recognize it now and to be immune to it in the future.
It has a cultural sound, influenced by music from all around the world. It was mixed with new and old sounds Tool. You're pretty much on point. It's really how you interpret the songs for you, that's what I love about tool so much. Yes it has a meaning and a true message and I always try to Decipher the lyrics. But to me this song is about personal growth. And getting way from anything toxic to you. Weather it's about getting out of your own way, toxic relationships, toxic people, toxic environments and so on. Basically not letting fear get in you way and hold you back!!! Fear Inoculum: Inoculum is like like a vaccine. To eliminate. So to get rid of fear, to no longer be a hostage to fear. Live your best life, be creative,...... I ramble too and for him Mitosis mean: Cell division so growing and separating yourself from the old you. Creating a new you. All just metaphors.
Firstly, it's pronounced "Mal-uh-dee." It wasn't bongos, though the drummer uses various different types of drums that normal rock drummers wouldn't typically use. The saying of "fear" for those things were what the "ones in charge" were telling him & the others to fearing(a/k/a people in general). They were controlling the group/masses through fear. That's how you keep control of a group, by controlling what they fear. The basis for "disease" talk is that being content with thinking fearfully is like being subjected to a disease. You'll be cured only when you allow for your thinking to change.
I've been listening to Tool for 20+ years. Whilst I don't think they create bad music, this album is not my fave. Would love to see your reaction to 46&2. Please do lyric video's with these guys , can be a bit overwhelming otherwise.
If you listen to all the albums in a row, this album shows it’s self to you. I hated the first time I heard it . Started from the beginning and it clicked
Thank you!
Really? I've like 2 or 3 people talking smack about it and everyone else is loving it.
@@mrsusan893 i heard and read a lot of people saying it's a bad and boring album.
This is why i hate humans in general. They are stupid af lol
@@Booyakasha5 it's because they expected another Lateralus from 50 year old men. The same people hate 10,000 Days.
@@almightymain I agree. People need to learn to appreciate things for what they are. If they want Lateralus, listen to Lateralus. Music would never evolve with that mindset.
This album is a beautiful work of art.
Couldn't agree more. I think the musicianship and depth of the lyrics make it a masterpiece
You should check out "Invincible" or "Pneuma" next.... SO good
Tales told, of battles won, of things we've done. Caligula would grin.
Check this out DJ. At 11:15 of Invincible, it's the exact chord changes as 46 and 2. Sing the "See my shadow changing" verse at 11:48 and right after "46 and 2 are just ahead of me" it goes into the outro. I don't think it was done by accident.
Pneuma is an absolute masterpiece. By far the best new song I've heard in years.
YES!! ⚠️⚠️Tool is an experience, everytime i listen to them I find myself just deep into thought and taking in the moment. I absolutely loved your analysis on the song by comparing it to the Matrix. That was a brilliant story you laid out
So glad to see this channel grow, guys. I always love seeing y'all's reaction and appreciation to new music *ESPECIALLY* TOOL. 🔩 If you guys haven't done so already you *NEED* to see them in concert!!
Tarantula Fangs thanks so much for your support it really means a lot. Hopefully we will get to a tool concert soon🤗
Editing is on another level! Bravo! 🔥👏
Keep 🌀ing out!
Do pnuema by tool and do the rest of this album it's a masterpiece..

This tool growth has been the same as mine being angry in my younger years and as I matured let things go. Which would be the point thyre at rightnow. Great vid I love the edit. ♥️
That scene from the Matrix is exactly how I feel whenever I go to see Tool... I always take the red pill.
I take both, but on a empty stomach.
The drums in the intro are called tabla, and are a common instrument in India and Pakistan.
"Mitosis" is at the exact middle of the song.
I think it's just Maynard's commentary on the current cultural environment in the United States. Stars Die yup! This song can be easily viewed from both left and right sides.... Great lyric writing

I saw them live on January 15th and they opened with this song. They are still one of the best sounding live bands I've ever seen. Awesome show.
You wanna hear some bongo playing, Steph? You two need to react to Right in Two by Tool, you will love the song on many levels and it is bongo heavy! Sippin on the leafy green in legal Canada!
not bongos. it's a tabla. similar but also very different and very cool.
Would love to see you react to Pneuma. Which is the next song on this album!
You guys are pure and that’s awesome.
I want to congratulate you ....on the amazing graphics you incorporate in this reaction ...
Great overview & reaction coming from a longterm Tool fan. Please do more Tool songs
Haha fucking genius editing my friends! :D
You married up dude. Gratz.

Stephs a natural! The truth is that there is no love in fear. Inoculate your fear.
I always got it to mean “ first I bought in to what you had to say but it became venom to me and to let it go I have to exhale you and ask for blessing to rid you ! Thus a blessing of immunity to your teachings and the process it requires to let it go!
Never heard this song before, but I liked it and your reaction! Thank you Steph & Jay! My husband and I really enjoy watching your reactions!
I like that they're bopping their heads to 4/4 time scale. 🙈🙈🙈
I. Fucking. Love. The. Edit!!!!
Immunity long overdue
The lyric is typically enigmatic and open to interpretation, which is the way Keenan likes it: he feels songs are subjective, and never gives details as to their meanings. Speaking with Revolver, he explained that the album deals with "wisdom through age, through experience."
In biology, an inoculum is a culture made from bacteria for the purpose of creating a vaccine (inoculation). "Fear Inoculum" could thus be seen as working to create an immunity or defense against fear. The next line is also a biology metaphor:

Keenan goes on to address "The Deceiver" who has brought fear into his life. He stands up to and expels his adversary; in doing so he becomes immune to the venom in The Deceiver's words. At the end of the song, The Deceiver is vanquished:
I see you running
Deceiver chased away
A long time coming
Maynard has always pushed for people to think for themselves and I think this song is just an extension of that philosophy.
You ramble on Mrs. Sippington. Preach!

My missus takes up as much of the conversation as yours. If you can get 10% of the words in overall, you're winning, bro. Nice reaction from you both.

I've been listening to Tool for 20+ years. Whilst I don't think they create bad music, this album is not my fave. Would love to see your reaction to 46&2. Please do lyric video's with these guys , can be a bit overwhelming otherwise.

Like the saying goes - ignorance is bliss, if you don’t know what’s going on then it can’t bother you.
Inoculum means to overcome. Fear overcome
If you listen to all the albums in a row, this album shows it’s self to you. I hated the first time I heard it . Started from the beginning and it clicked
Prog rock lives!
You guys must react to pneuma but from the drummer Danny Carreys POV it's absolutely amazing!
Try Invincible. It's a work of art.
