- Gazza Stories: England legend Paul Gascoigne, who spoke exclusively to The Mirror this week, calls on former team-mate Gareth Southgate to give Jude Bellingham freedom to express himself at Euro 2024
Paul Gascoigne has joked that “quiet” Gareth Southgate’s Euro 96 penalty miss led him to bigger and better things - including the England manager’s job.
In an exclusive interview with The Mirror, Gazza recalled Southgate’s place in the squad at the home Euros and claimed that his spot-kick heartbreak in the semi-final against Germany at Wembley led to him getting a £30,000 pizza advert.

My hero growing up as a Rangers supporter! Great to see him doing so well just now. However why interview him about England as he hasn’t a clue he literally says he doesn’t really watch football. I went to see him with a night with laudrup I could finish all his stories as heard them all a hundred times. Missed 1994? England didn’t make that tournament.

I always loved Gazza, and feel for him and relate to him with his struggles. Last year after watching the bbc documentary on him, i had a particularly mad bpd episode, where i convinced meself i needed to get a coach down to Bournemouth and go find him, and help him out/chill with him,. I know we'd get on like a house on fire. Obviously after telling people, i came around, and realised he doesnt need saving by me! I think it was sorta like how he felt in that Raoul Moat situation. Hes a legend and id love to meet him one day, he was doing a Night with Gazza near to me in Last of sumner wine territory but it was sold out, but if hes ever up here again , hes got a place out of the way to stay if he wants. Much love n respect Gazza. Foocks sake i sound mad but its true 😂😂😂.✌🏻n❤Legend.
