As an old timer in WoWS (Open Beta days), I’m so glad to see you going down the IJN CA line. It’s still my favorite cruiser line even after all these years. Your how to play video brought back alot of good memories when I was a newer player, where Aoba was the ship I played a ton of to best understand how IJN CA’s worked (and really how to play CA’s in general), because the Furutaka wasn’t exactly a good choice when your only option back then was still the six single guns. Now I need to go wipe the dust off her and take her for a spin again!
Yeah, old school A-hull Furutaka with the 200mm guns on a 22 second reload and a 60 second turret traverse was just... pain. Especially when the T5 tech tree competition was stuff like Konigsberg and Omaha with lots of quick-firing guns. Over the years, WG has made a lot of nice quality-of-life buffs to this line, including the accuracy I talk about here. That wasn't originally part of the design of these ships, but it's a big reason to play them now.
My man. I played wows way before it hit Steam and I always played Japanese. All my ships are nearly Japanese. I love to burn ships or sneak around in my DD. I still love my trusty Kuma lol.
Just wanted to say I really appreciate these in-depth, up to date guides! I know the views are very spread apart between them, especially at lower tier ships, but I appreciate all of them!
Glad you like them! I'm of the opinion that you need to play through each of the ships in a given tech tree, as each of them teaches you something different (even if it's just how to adapt to matchmaking).
Some of the T6's feel really bad. The ones I've highlighted so far on the channel - Nurnberg, Farragut, Pensacola, and now Aoba - each have their own particular thing that makes them feel awful when bottom tier (typically their armor and/or HP pool). Fortunately, for most of the lines they get better at T7, but you're right, T6 is a pretty big hill to climb when you're in a T8 game.
I really liked playing this ship in operations. Aoba also has a sort of interesting history, she almost survived the war despite taking heavy damage multiple times.
So, you get a total of 8 flags you can run. Why would you not use all 8 if you have them? I see you had 4500 fire flags but you didn't run it. I was wondering if there was a disadvantage to using it other than the cost of them.
It's mostly about what value they provide. For most players, flags are a valuable commodity that they retain for modes where that competitive advantage matters (ranked or clan battles, for example). Would I run the fire % chance flags on an Aoba in randoms I had them available? Sure. They would likely help me grind the ship a little faster. Would I run the AA flag? I doubt I ever would. 5% AA is not a notable buff to an Aoba. Some ships can't truthfully benefit from all 8 flag slots.
Should`ve have explained your positioning choice of "chasing crossfires" in a 203mm heavy better, also maybe add some t8 gameplay as well instead of a cherrypicked t5 one. Also why ditching both prop mod and last stand( with the bug it acts also as a prop mod) in a wanna kite low hp cruiser for sub counterplay in an aoba of all ships?? Your frienly keyboard coach ;p
All YT replays are cherry-picked, that's why some folks prefer Twitch. They get to watch us screw up in real-time. But since you're curious, Aoba as bottom tier: ua-cam.com/video/7f8pOtL09rY/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/-zEpfgz27Hg/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/a4WsbMv1o6w/v-deo.html
Great work at here .The community need these days so much then before ı think bcuse see alot of bad players arround every fking games . in my opinion its worst then subs & T11 ships...
"Like this" how? The IJN heavies aren't pushers, you have to do a lot of running away (particularly in this ship, which bizarrely has a better armor scheme for it than most).

Very educational ty. Im struggling with most of these T6's. I think T6-T8 is the most painful grind across the board.

First one first time.... like ow... :)

Superb work, never stop my friend
Thank you, I plan to keep chugging along!

Glad you think so! Spread the word!
Well done.

Is it snowing in port or nuclear fallout?
In the Zipangu port, I believe those are cherry blossoms.
T8 (mogami) is it bad?
Not at all. Either configuration (203mm or 155mm) of Mogami is quite playable, but I've come to prefer the 203mm version myself.

“ if you didn’t skip the Furutaka “
I skipped the furutaka .
Pity, you missed out on one of the best T5 cruisers in the game!
