One of your very best videos. Pausing to explain correct (or incorrect!) tactics with respect to the situation and ship's abilities is what sets you apart from the other guys. That's your wheelhouse. You can learn something from this vid even if you have no interest in Pensacola.
Thank you for this video. I was strugling so much with this ship and for months I stoped play american line. But I have watched your video few days ago, changed configuration to recommended by you and ... My God! This ship plays so much better. Keep recording this series: it really helps people. 👍👍
It's truly amazing how these videos always come out at exactly the right time for me, when you did the German cruiser line guides, I was grinding the German cruisers, and now that I'm grinding the us heavy cruisers, your guide comes out. Thank you for these, I would be a much worse player without them.
I was excited when I unlocked my first radar cruiser Baltimore. I was sadly disappointed. I kept dieing. I finally got the mods and Halsey on it. That helped a lot. Now I like the ship.
About A month ago I got to the Cleveland, I've since gotten pretty okay at it and just yesterday I started trying american Heavies. Thanks for the vid!
Hello! Great video! I am a new WOW player, used to play WOT back in the day. I just got the Pensacola, have 0 exp, learning my way in the game. Dumb question here, which will be my best choice regarding ammo? AP or HE? , should i fire one more often tha n the other? Thanks in advance
As a cruiser, if you aren't sure what ammo to fire defaulting to HE is always pretty safe. Truthfully, it depends on what you are firing at and what angle they have to you. + Destroyer or submarine, any angle: HE + Narrow-beam cruiser, battleship, or carrier: HE + Broadside cruiser, battleship, or carrier: AP Basically, if you're shooting at something smaller than you (DD or SS), fire HE. If you are shooting something equivalent or larger (CA, BB, CV), fire AP if they are broad to you and HE otherwise. The American heavy cruisers - like Pensacola - in particular get big benefits from firing AP as often as they can.
Great advice Sea Raptor! As you said, hydro is a must and to keep moving or slowing, juking is important. A good way for people to learn how to keep moving is to use the ship in Operations a few times to get to know it. Thanks! o7
The guns don’t have the punch of Baltimore +, but the flatter arcs are easier to shoot. Down side, can’t shoot over islands as easily, an issue a time or two in this game. Well played. The 25mm armor is a challenge, but the 16mm on the light cruisers is even more so. With subs being more and more the OP choice over carriers, I am always taking the hydro when there is a choice. That may be a bit dogmatic, you make some good points.
I think in the middle tiers - particularly with this AA range - hydro is the superior choice over DFAA 99 times out of 100. By the time you get to Baltimore at T8 - whose AA is excellent, and who has longer-range depth charge strikes - I think the choice is less clear-cut.
Honestl as a Closed Beta Veteran, Pensacola always seemed to suffer from three things, she was too high a tier really when you look at her both historically and ability wise, her horrible (for a cruiser) concealment, and for the fact that she had to contend with *CLEVELAND* of all ships as the T6 preceding her. Considering they didn’t really do much to Cleveland when they moved her to T8 and she’s still one of my favorite light cruisers should tell you something the sort of expectations Cleveland gave us before the line split.
Pensacola was a brutal follow up after the Cleveland at tier 6. Add Incoming Fire and Radio Location and that's my build. The RL helps me clean up DDs as needed. Pensacola is much fun for Dev Striking cruisers.
I've found this as well for some reason. I think there's just the simple joy of going back and playing a ship because you *want* to, versus feeling like you *have* to.
wows pc, where i have to plan ahead before grinding a tech tree on which ships to keep coz limited docks....even after over 10 years we still have limited docks...i forgot i wasnt on legends and wasted a stars and stripes perma camo on NY
Nice one, was not very excited on going in this line but u got me motivated. Btw what's the voice mod you are using for commander's audio. Wanna try it out 😂
Shell damage in World of Warships is based on three main types of shell hits: overpenetration, full penetration, and citadels. An overpenetration will hit for ~10% of the shell damage value you see listed in port. A full penetration will hit for ~33%. Those two types of hits can generally occur nearly anywhere on a ship, depending on the shell being fired and exactly where it lands. Citadel damage can ONLY come from shells that land in the citadel of an enemy ship. Ships that have citadels - basically anything that's not a destroyer or submarine - can show you where their citadel spaces are via the armor profile tool in port. Shells that strike the citadel do 100% of the max shell damage you see listed in port. Striking the citadel of an enemy ship is quickest way to deal maximum damage, which is why armor profiles and ship positioning and so on are so important.
Yeah , it doesn’t get any better with the New Orleans at vii . The only two nations I enjoyed the 6-8 climb was France and Spain . For some reason I really like the Balereas .
Her detection should only be that high when she fires. Her surface detection starts around 13.5km or so, and can drop if you invest in the 4-point commander skill called "Concealment Expert".
Brother your videos have helped me tremendously. Great information. You know your stuff. Your tutorials are the best in the biz. Great respect. As for your live streams..... your an a hole. Not the stuff with Seth. But when you're playing. You're a ass. Just because someone does something stupid on a game doesn't mean they're a moron. They suck at a game. In real life they may be finding the cure for cancer. I'm a retired army combat vet. I play for fun and relaxation. Too many take this entirely too serious. Again thanks for the knowledge.
I used to take the game too seriously; I am glad those days are behind me. That doesn't mean I don't get frustrated watching teammates make terrible decisions (like sailing forward until dead with no regard to their own survival, for example). I also make bad decisions in-game sometimes, and I get frustrated at myself when I do that, too. I have an expectation that in a team game, players at least attempt to play to help the team win. That expectation generally leads to disappointment. I express frustration at players who don't make team-oriented choices - whether it is at myself or a teammate - verbally. I don't berate people in chat. I don't PM them rude messages after a game. I share my inner monologue with the camera and microphone. If that makes me a jackass, welp, that's life I suppose. Glad the L2P vids are helping. =)
I strongly disagree, but it's true for these particular ships because their base AA range simply isn't worth the opportunity cost of giving up the hydro.
I am a Thai person who just came to follow you for the first time. and I like history Very American warship
Welcome!

Same thing for me. I really appreciate his advices. Such a good vibe with him. 🤙♥️
Love the "Learn to play" series, thank you for the insight!

Wow SeaRaptor this was super thorough. Thank you for making this very helpful video for this ship! It's already helping my game dude!
Glad you enjoyed it!

This was the very first video I watched form you, and it was exactly what I needed to learn about this ship. Thank you and subscribed :)
Awesome, thank you!
About A month ago I got to the Cleveland, I've since gotten pretty okay at it and just yesterday I started trying american Heavies. Thanks for the vid!
Thank you... I was planning on starting this line (one of the few lines still to do). Very interesting info...
I'm hardcore excited for the L2P: US CA's, i'll be looking forward to all of them, especially the Buffalo.
Thanks for that Raptor - very nice

Love it. Thank you for the american cruisers

Glad to hear that!
This is perfect. I just unlocked the P'cola yesterday and have been frusterated.
Great Vid. I like the ship a lot. I do like Demo expert on my build though but that's me, it seems to help with getting more flags and damage.
Perfectly good skill for the ship. For any heavy cruiser, really.
What ya mean getting more flags..do flags still get awarded from battles is there any info on that and how to aquire them ?

There's a reason I still refer to her as "Cheatland".

You got me motivated to dust off Pensacola. Been playing a few Buffalo games recently and enjoying that ship more than I did when I ground the line.
imo, i feel grinding the line makes it harder to enjoy the ships. So when the line is finally maxed, the other's tend to be more fun.
I've found this as well for some reason. I think there's just the simple joy of going back and playing a ship because you *want* to, versus feeling like you *have* to.

That's Duke Nukem. He's been my XO for a long time.
This is great thankyou! What are citadels good for? Just extra damage?

So basically take hydro as you never know what you are going to get. Is there really a way to know if you are getting a CV?
There is not. When you take DFAA, you are rolling the dice that you will see a CV. Sometimes you will, sometimes you won't.
Yeah , it doesn’t get any better with the New Orleans at vii .
The only two nations I enjoyed the 6-8 climb was France and Spain .

I have the Pensacola
My pensa detacbility by sea 15.8 why commander?

I sucked with this ship at first then suddenly started doing a lot of damage and getting way more kills
Glad you were able to improve!
Basically, any ship that has defensive AA as an option has bad base AA.
I strongly disagree, but it's true for these particular ships because their base AA range simply isn't worth the opportunity cost of giving up the hydro.
pensacola is a true florida woman
I really hate that ship. So easily get blown
