Also don’t think the exhaust was all the way out the back when he put that in so that could be why he put it there when the exhaust was side exit not thinking he’d put a full exhaust on idk tho
😂 I know a guy that has a BB big tire Camaro that lost a collector muffler doing a burnout in front of his friends car. That muffler got shot out by the tire like a rocket and destroyed the front of the car behind him.😂
@@garyhowe88 So many people gave me crap for not doing this one and I'm like bro it sold out before the truck was even close to being potentially ready. It sold out months ago. lol
It makes me so happy that you're doing drag content! I really want to see you do a drag and drive like Sick Week. Also, I'm really looking forward to the RX-7 build!
You can do timing curves in your launch control. Like, just an example, the button pulls 3 degrees of timing out, release the button and it puts 1 degree back in a half second, another degree after a full second and another in 2 seconds. This will help manage horsepower with your limited control of boost. Just spit balling. You can even do this on the throttle position sensor. I know you like tinkering in the software. Just maybe giving ideas to think about.
I hope he sees this. Was just watching Cleetus and that’s how they have been getting their cars to stick. Either timing curve or a boost ramp bc he said boost hits and it knocks the tire. Maybe slowly ramp in boost?
This episode made me happy. Success with problem solving, successful rips, and utilizing stock components to do other tasks. I LOVED the utilization of the tow/haul button for the 2-step. I hope to use the cruise control button in my Foxbody for 2-step if I can ever afford to turbo it. Great episode bud!
I know youve got an intercooler and such up there but the trucool 40k is soooo good. It works great and doesnt need a fan. Run it on all my drag cars. Headliner and bedliner soon pleaseee
@@vette2763 My fear was heat soaking the intercooler with the transmission cooler. That was my original plan then I've gone every other route to avoid putting it infront of the intercooler
@@Taylordrifts i did the 40K and its mounted in the same spot as your MISHI cooler below the intercooler. I am pretty happy with it. Used some similar mounting to the MISHI too.

Hey brother just wanted to say that your LS content is excellent. Im currently building a 6.0 and have watched your other videos on how to make the reliable. Such a great help to see those videos and just wanted to say thank you for sharing your knowledge.

Spooled soft copper line is the plan stuff to use . Tight to the frame makes a good heat sink minus your wrap . . Instead Wrap your exhaust with aluminum backed hvac tape . 7 layers is a fantastic thermal insulation that works off radiated heat reflection . The glue carbonizes and you have black -shint -black -shiney -etc . Hot gases flow far better and it dampens tone . I love this stuff !!!
You're a fab guy Taylor! Clamp those pieces down when you're using the press, I'm sure you've got a ton of clamps. (There's also some smaller drill vises you can buy.) I was squinting when you were holding them with your hand - lost a good chunk of my thumb doing exactly what you were doing with almost exactly the same size of material, slipped out of my hand, caught, and spun and nailed my thumb before I could even pull my hand back.
I would agree I’ve got one on my truck monted infront of the radiator and it works fine idk why he hasent tried the spot there supposed to be from factory ?
@@Mr_Ruhl Exactly that, I didn't want to mount it infront of the intercooler and heat soak the intercooler with air flowing through a 180-200 degree cooler. It's not about overcomplicating things. @speed3fr3ak62 Most drag n drive cars have them mounted underneath just like mine for this very reason
@@Taylordrifts yeah, the cateye front clips have more room between the grill and the radiator than these 99-02 fronts. Everyone is saying to get a 40k, but I think the tru-cool 30k would fit better where you have it underneath the front. It's still the superior plate\fin type and has side fittings rather than at the bottom\top as it's 6"x 23"x .75". With the 30k you could probably get rid of the one near the exhaust in the back and maybe see if they make some fans for it, or if you have at least 1" between your intercooler and radiator it could slip in between so hot air isn't being pulled through the intercooler.
c clamp or something bolted to your drill press base works pretty good to keep the parts from spinning on you. they also sell a vice that bolts to the drill press base that has x and y axis adjustments so you can move your part around and it holds the part in place
Inside the truck bed, especially right behind the cab, is a huge low pressure area. So if the trans cooler fan is blowing upwards, this will help. But it will definitelly not "feed cooler air from above" as you mentioned 😉
05:36 Could have had the pieces against the side of the table to stop them from spinning or clamp a piece of angle iron on there to rest the pieces against that
Loved spotting ya in the back of one of the Sick week videos with the truck. I can't wait to see you take the truck to the track, and maybe even a Drag week/Sick week in the future 😉
I am loving this truck! A common mistake that I have also done (smoked the trans) is to zip-tie the cooler lines together for nice tight clearances. This effectively negates the trans cooler because the hot fluid in one line heats up the cooled fluid in the other line by the time it gets back to the transmission. The simple zip-tie wire spacer trick works perfect to keep the lines far enough apart so the cooler actually works as it should. Also check out Cal-Tracs or Slide-a-links to help traction and eliminate wheel hop, a must have for leaf sprung drag vehicles. Looking forward to seeing this thing progress!
This truck is getting better every time. The suspension setup is gonna need more attention to get it to hook. It's so low, it doesn't have much travel. Looks sick though
From experience i can say if you get rid of the cooler above the exhaust and just run the one up front with fans it would definitely stay cool enough. Hi comp 6.0 Nitrous Chevy 2500, 4l80e, triple disk hughes converter and a 40k trucool cooler never gave me any overheating issues even for daily driver.
I would recommend a advance table to pull timing on release of the 2 step to help fight the traction issues over a length of time. But definitely look like your heading in the right direction for practice on the new build.
You can definitely stack oil coolers. I've done it before on 2019 Z71 175 Cruising 200 When you would get on it and do some runs back-to-back with a tune on it rock solid 200
True Kool 40k up front in good airflow and you'll never have cooling issues. The 3rd gear "spool mod" from experience puts soo much heat in the trans and fast. And if I'm not mistaken is a fast way to burn up some clutches. Maybe something to look into more. Also it doesn't sound like the transmission shifts are very noticable at all when making a pass.
I've got a TruCool 40k up front behind the intercooler and in front of the radiator and I can easily stay 100* within ambient outdoor temps. Very similar setup, just in a Bronco. I've got a setup in my crawler like you ran with a cooler in the back as space is tight up front but I used a 25 pass Derale unit and it still doesn't keep my C4 cool after extended beatdowns. Not sure what I'm going to do there, run two of them or run the trans fluid through the radiator... not sure.
That Derale trans cooler should be more than enough to keep that trans cool. That location is the issue, no flow through with being mounted against a flat surface on the backside, no air flow and mounted directly above the exhaust. Mount it where you put that second cooler and you should be fine. If that doesn’t fix it you have a trans problem.
You should get some cal tracks for the rear endand then talk to s. R. C on what to do with the settings and everything. Since you just did a deal with them , they could help you out on getting the Cal tracks and everything else for the rear end of that chevy
The cooler directly above the muffler is a lot of the problem. The radiant heat/infrared is cooking the Derale and the fan is trying to cool with preheated air.
Would love to see some interior work on this unit. Custom black headliner, maybe paint the rest of the trim black aswell. Did it on a few of my cars and loved it. Needs some tint too
I can't imagine that the trans cooler is super efficient with the exhaust directly under it lol. But I think setup that would have worked great for you is the TruCool 40k like a lot of others have suggested but also added a dual fan shroud from Atomic Fab which allows you to add dual 6.5" SPAL fans.
Just a heads up with that first test spot, at night the Mexico police/local task force brief around the corner by that big popular building. 👍 Go down that road in the direction you were going, take a left and quick right, cross the street and follow it until it curves to the right, used to be a decent little spot down a few streets on the left.
the exact front end i want, all i have left to get is the grill. i have a 6.0 swap and i want to turbo it, but i’ve gone through 3 “built” transmissions on just a tune
After seeing this cooler again, not surprising that it’s getting hot. Probably not the best that it’s sitting above the exhaust, especially if the fan is pushing air through the cooler. And beyond that, doesn’t look like there’s a lot of room for the hot air to get out above the cooler. Could try switching the polarity of the fan to pull air through the cooler if it’s not already, should take the exhaust out of the equation, or at least make it less of a factor, make sure the shroud is sealed good if you’re doing it this way, but I know you already knew that. And then angle the cooler more. Should be sitting in there at like a 30° angle or so. That way it kinda acts like a scoop for air as you’re driving, and it won’t have to work so hard to pull air from above the cooler if that makes sense. Mounting coolers under the bed is very common in the diesel world. That’s how they all do it. 2000hp+ “street” trucks keep tranny temps at 120 all day with a single cooler like this
Seeing Taylor get stoked about hitting his 2-step was like that first time he heard the 'clunk' of the Vette's gearbox for the first time. 😁
That bothers me so much. Lol

This truck would be an awesome.dragweek/sick week truck.
The cooler is pulling hot air off the exhaust. It will never cool that way.
Exactly what I was thinking
The Fan Should be Pulling out of the Cooler... not blowing air into it.
Right above the exhaust and if the fan is set up to pull through.. it looks like there not much a of a gap between the cooler and bed
Bad placement for sure.
Also don’t think the exhaust was all the way out the back when he put that in so that could be why he put it there when the exhaust was side exit not thinking he’d put a full exhaust on idk tho
