- A Masterclass with Dónal Lunny & Paddy Glackin
UCD Creative Futures Academy & UCD School of Irish, Celtic studies and Folklore were delighted to bring together two Irish music legends and long-time collaborators Dónal Lunny & Paddy Glackin for a masterclass. Watch the video for a glimpse 'behind the curtain' with two masters of traditional music engaged in a deep discussion.
Dónal Lunny is the Musician in Residence with the UCD Creative Futures Academy. He has been involved with some of the most innovative bands to emerge from Ireland since the 1970s, including Planxty, the Bothy Band, Moving Hearts, Coolfin, and more recently Mozaik. He has toured across the world, collaborating with musicians of many different cultures.
Paddy Glackin is one of Ireland's leading traditional fiddle players and a founding member of the Bothy Band.
I’m so glad this was filmed. Donal is a National Treasure, and it’s a joy seeing him interviewed by someone who knows him so well. Thanks to Archie McAllister for the discovery.
Donal was the catalyst for so much that has been good about our music and culture for nigh on 60 years.
Lovely presentation, enjoyed every moment ❤
I learned a lot from this. I can't quite get my head around how great these two men play together. I'm also quite inspired by the journey of music they have taken, far less direct and much more exploratory than I ever expected.
Love this! Wonderful to see them after all these years looking and sounding better than ever!
Brilliant Video...Very interesting Gentleman and Musicians. ..very interesting the west Donegal connection with Donal...👏.
G'day from Australia! Am so grateful for this. When i first started on a journey to reclaim my family musical heritage, I discovered the sound of Donal and his bouzouki's and immediately took up the instrument and been obsessed ever since with both the instrument and his playing style and arrangements. There is very limited exposure to Irish music or instruction in an instrument like the bouzouki here in Australia, so this sharing of stories and tunes is so very much appreciated.
History and creativity!!! Thanks you guys. The best part.
A long time lover of their music, stunning insights! all the best from Tasmania
Glad to them doing good
I didn't expect to get a reference to science fiction in a traditional musician interview but as someone who loves folk and traditional music as well as science fiction... Cool (The Philip K. Dick - Total Recall - We Can Remember It For You Wholesale bit).
Awesome! Two legends in Irish music! 2 gentlemen! To be admired!❤️💚
wah ini yang aku butuhkan ! matur suksma. salam dari pulau bali
salam dari ubud😊❤
I like the gritty nature of Donal's singing in Irish - Bhean Phaidin was always one of my favorite Planxty tracks.
@dentipres - a master of trad giving detailed breakdowns of the music and it’s progression, and the individuals involved- I’d say that’s a masterclass.
Great stuff.
That was great
Oh..brothers o' mine
Top Class
Not really a masterclass. It's great but bit of a misnomer.
Why the masks?
