I recently got the 42mm version of the Epix pro and I love it. Having smaller wrists I'm glad they did a 42mm version of the Epix because the size is perfect for me.
Thanks for posting this - I've just ordered a Epix Pro 47mm to replace my failing 955 and did wonder if I made a mistake in not going for the 965 - but you make some really valid points in favour of the Epix.
After several months I’m still happy I got this. Countless times I’ve scraped my watch on something accidentally & it was fine. Couldn’t help thinking with 965 it would have been scratched just then.
I hike and do mountain biking a lot, and for me the Instinct 2x is the best partner. Not the best screen but its like a Gshock watch and also has that handy flashlight.
Last week I brought the 965 and when I got home I opened the box and was very disappointed with the watch it’s lightweight and small so I returned it back to the shop and got the Epix pro 51mm and it feels much better on my wrist
Hey, you have mentioned that you had to change the screen on your 965. I was bouldering and damaged mine very easily. Now I have annoying scratches and was thinbking to change the screen. Otherwise love the watch, although might change in for Epix Pro.
We’ll put up more details soon but after training with it all weekend at a training camp (swim / run but biked with an edge 1030) I can certainly tell you it is nicer than the 965…. It also just feels like a more premium watch.
Man I would love to have the durability of the epix, but I just cannot personally justify the price hike from the 965. Also, It really annoys me that garmin decided to make the 965 have a curved glass screen that sticks out from the bezal that should be protecting it. It feels like they want them to get damaged even though they're supposed to be a high end model at $600
It also doesn't have a sapphire glass which is a bummer, because it is also on the expensive side. I would probably go for the Pace 3 when it releases in my country, because I can not justify paying 600 dollars for a plastic watch with mineral glass.
Got the Epic for running, hiking & biking and got the Venu 3 for none sport and sleep as the Epic was a bit bulky for sleeping with. But I will say I am a bit concerned about the durability of the Venu 3 display as far as bumping into something.
Do you notice the screen is smaller than the 965? 965 is 1,4 and your Epix 1,3”. I am wearing 965 and I am happy with that after having Fenix 7 but I am wondering to switch to the Epix. Thanks!
In your opinion, which has the better GPS/mapping? I will be doing biking, hiking and walking in various areas and feel the GPS/mapping is important to me. Thanks so much.
Epix is better because you can actually press stuff on the map and it gives you information like Google maps while 965 will show you map but you can't click on the different stuff you can just se their names
What color to get? Titanium or Black? I mostly swim. Does one scratch more easily? Do other bands go with the titanium color? Why do most choose black?
Do you notice any difference in the screen size? Is there any lag on the interface compared to the 965. How does the new heart rate sensor compare? Thanks
@@st.peterunningcompany8916 I just set mine up no always on display or anything like that, I do 4 workouts per week so a week baseline between charges is nothing to sneeze at! thanks for the feedback!
Hi there! I also have a Garmin 245 and I’m thinking of changing for this 965. But I have a question that I think you can help: wile on hiking ou trail running can I see de elevation gain? When I start the watch can I see the elevation gain from zero on the screen? Or just in the final os the track when I connect to my phone? Thank you very much.
I can see the elevation. Lets give examples. If I load a map I can see where I am, how much elevation there is, a graph of it and where I am on the graph. If it's not loaded. I can see where I start and build a graph on the screen as I go up and down.
No, it’s a good option. The screen goes black at night when you’re not moving. Some people don’t like wearing a watch at night when they sleep. Personally it doesn’t bother me.
The 965 has the Elevate v4 whereas the Epix Pro has the v5. Not a big deal but seems more accurate for mountain biking/strength training, where wrist-based sensors usually struggle.
Epix pro is when they added flashlight & gave you size options. Also it has ECG that you can doing an EXG test on yourself & export to pdf and send to doctor etc.
Screen is so much better, you’re not going to scratch it and you can with the 965. The body is more durable & designed to take more impact… so they stuck in activities like Kite Boarding etc… whereas the 965 is made to be lighter.
Just measured - my wrist is 170mm, and the 51 was WAY too big. By a long shot. I hope this helps. Maybe go to your local running store and get them on!

I have the Epix Gen 2 and prefer that to the 965 due to it feeling and being more robust on my wrist. Especially for mtn biking.
A vest 🦺with a red led and white led 🚨in front would have costs you $ 30, but you bought a $1000 watch ⌚ 😁
I might do the same!
I hike and do mountain biking a lot, and for me the Instinct 2x is the best partner. Not the best screen but its like a Gshock watch and also has that handy flashlight.
The flashlight alone is worth the change! Thx!
question: any difference in maps? especially turn-by-turn navigation between those 2 ?

100% agree with you!

Personally I changed out the watch for a new 965, then when it scratched I switched to the Epix. I love it.
@@st.peterunningcompany8916 Understood, thank you! I though they could actually service and change the screen somehow
Very helpful comparison, thanks :)

Cemented my opinion on this subject.
I hesitated between epix and 965, and went for epix
I belive was a good decision
Good decision. Basically way more durable.
Great vidéo ! Are you using a screen protector on your epix ? I have a saphir version as well and don’t no if it’s a good idea
@@olivierafflatet5287 yes it is a very good idea. 100%

Following up - the EPIX still feels more solid and brand new to me. Very happy with it so far.
The screen on my 965 sits just under the bezel. Might be a quality issue?

How much is a screen protector?

With black you can’t see the bezel. That’s the deal breaker for most people… do you want it to be seen or not?
Do you notice any difference in the screen size? Is there any lag on the interface compared to the 965. How does the new heart rate sensor compare? Thanks
Screen size not much difference. Night and day difference in quality + the resolution of screen.
@@st.peterunningcompany8916in favour of which?
There is 500 dollars difference in Canada
How has the 965 compared to the claimed 23 days of battery life? Did the watch underperform exceed expectations?
I’m fairly active and had to charge it every Sunday. Didn’t take long to charge. It miiiiiight last 23 days on low power mode not doing anything.

I like the model epix , can be for casual and training. And 965 feels not casual. Really confuse

How’s it been so far going from amoled to MIP screen?

remember to not push buttons under water they are not waterproof

Why .
Probably like everyone else because he had a dream where he scratched them or lacked a powerful flashlight on the way to the bathroom.
Is epix pro and epix gen2 sapphire different?

Epix!

How do? Lighter? I just picked up a new Fenix also.
